  • Where's the scam here ? 2 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I didn't have an accident last year and I briefly toyed with the idea of stringing him along to see where it might lead but time was a bit pressing so I asked where his information had come from, but he spoiled the game and rang off. Where is the scam and how would I have been parted from my money ?
  • Scam Alert Buyers Beware 23 Feb 2005 (Forum)
This must be the simplest scam in the book. Bought a VW for £7,000 with only one remote key fob. Paid the seller cash *However* I did perform a HPI check and made damn sure the paperwork, VIN numbers etc.. matched up. Drive away a happy bunny but then 4 days later my car is nicked.

  • Car scam - no such thing as a bargain 28 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Felt it was important to post the following advice here as it is a scam that we are increasingly seeing and although on the face of it you would say "who would fall for that", naivety and a bargain can blind the astutest of people. This scam is prevalent on line, on all the car selling sites.
  • Tyres - Online Tyre Possible Scam? (Targo Tyres) 12 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Hello Backroomers, I'm not sure if it's been covered (nothng in the search), but be warned that Targo Tyres (https://targo-tyres.co.uk) might appear to be a scam. I ordered four tyres in early December, nothing arrived. Despite many emails I've heard nothing. The phone number (of course) is unobtainable. Do let me kow if you'e had dealings with this company in the past.
  • New service station scam 14 Apr 2022 (Forum)
She then asked if I could spare 'a few quid' to 'help her out', while emphasising that she was 'not a beggar'. I decided this was obviously a scam, and declined to give her money. She accepted this and proceeded to work her way around the car-park, approaching only the men and ingnoring the women, couples and families. Has anyone else been approached by similar scammers?
  • Car ownership change - Disgraceful shameful DVLA scam 8 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Being aware of the 'two months tax for one month's ownership' scam which we are attempting to avoid, on 31st Oct went online to change Focus ownership from MrsF to son, who was temporarily with us until he found somewhere to live.  New V5C arrived today so went on line to retax.
  • Was it a scam? 16 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Upon returning from the facilities I noticed he was still driving around trying to find a 'punter',but no takers, perhaps they had all been watching 'The Real Hustle'the previous night.Eventually he gave up and drove out through the service road.So was I being overly suspicious?I can't see a scam so maybe he was being genuinely philanthropic at this time of year.

  • Nigerian scam - websites selling cars 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Watch out those of you who try to sell your car online. There is a Nigerian scam that starts by them obtaining your e-mail address from websites selling cars and then trying to get you to export your car to them along with some cash. The e-mail goes like this: I am interested in buying it since the price is reasonable and affordable at £....

  • Mitsubishi Carisma - Auto Trader Scam ( beware) 5 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I smelt a rat straight away, the Paypal e-mail was from someone c/o Paypal in the address line and the whole thing was a scam to get a fee before disappearing into the night. Auto Trader is becoming a popular hunting ground for scams and this one was a bit pathetic to say the least. If you are selling your car through Auto Trader just make sure if someone offers a Paypal method of payment check your account with them before doing anything else.

  • Insurance Scam 25 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Provide the information you have sent me and send them the pictures as well. I doubt it is a scam and Tim Kelly should have said so.   She did not stop for no reason but because the lights had changed and so, in UK at least, you are meant to stop if you can. If it was a scam surely the claim would be for much more?
