Vauxhall Astra H (2005) - Fault codes after head gasket replacement 16 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Plus new oil, coolant, testing etc. Final bill was £1,170. Given how much they had to do, that sounds, unfortunately, reasonable to me, but I'd appreciate someone 'in the know' letting me know if that's a good price. -
MINI John Cooper Works - JCW Head Gasket/Head/block URGENT help 14 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Hi, Im hoping that somone can shed some light on the disastor im having with my 2003 JCW Mini. 6 weeks ago my coolant dropped out my engine due to a cracked expansion tank which lead to my engine overheating and the head gasket needing replacing. This work was carried out by a mini specialist and the work included sending the warped head off to an external company to be skimmed and it was also crack tested. -
See post - Dealership failings and liabilities 25 Oct 2011 (Forum)
When the independent workshop drained the cooling system to carry out the work they discovered that "only about a cupful" was in the engine. No evidence of external leakage was found nor any of coolant in the oil - the expansion tank was still full which meant that the low-coolant warning system had not tripped. A massive airlock in the cooling system had allowed the engine oil to overheat to the point of degradation thus leading to camshaft damage. -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Problem after purchasing used car. 21 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It also came with a 1 year warranty from a major warranty supplier that a lot of car dealers use. Only 2 weeks ago I had to top up the coolant, this seemed strange as I didn't have to do this on any other car I've ever bought. The next week I looked again and the coolant was on Min again, so I contacted the dealer, and he suggested I take it to a local garage for them to look at. -
Seat Arona losing oil 17 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I have had many cars , a lot go them cheap and cheerful and I honestly cant remember the last time the oil light came on My wife has a 2021 1l Seat Arona FR with 14k miles on it. Last week the water coolant light came on and SEAT said it was a leak in the radiator so replaced the radiator. Got it back on Thursday. Today the oil light came on. I checked the oil left and it wasn't even on minimum. Luckily the local SEAT garage said we could bring it in even on a Sunday and someone would check it. -
Ford Escort - Overheating engine 30 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Assuming therefore that it's not a head gasket issue, what could be the problem? One thing I've always noticed is that the coolant level never seems to drop. Could this be behind my engine heating problem? Many thanks. Alfie. -
Astra 1.7DTI Kangaroo juice! 18 Dec 2020 (Forum)
The Car has done 125 000 miles the engine had a replacement Cylinder Head at 117 000 miles. There is no coolant loss and other than the Kangaroo juice the car runs well. -
Ford Focus Titanium X 1.0 Ecoboost - Ford 1.0 Ecoboost Engine Assembly Replacement 8 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Ford replaced my 14 plate Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost engine in 2017 under warranty at 37k miles. Root cause was a well known manufacturing defect that caused a coolant leak and, in turn, a catastrophic engine failure. When I asked the dealer what exactly did they replace, they showed me a list of gaskets and an 'engine assembly'. Unfortunately, the sales/customer service rep could not confirm what exactly goes into the 'engine assembly'. -
Peugeot 206 - Bleeding air out of the system (car is overheating 6 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Hello, My car has been overheating a lot recently. Sometimes on the motorway, sometimes in slower traffic. I refilled the coolant a few days ago, and I've been told this could have left air in the system which can cause overheating. A mechanic gave me advice on what to do, open the bleed screws and let air and water drain, but I've forgotten specifically what he said. -
Engine Start/stop (Eco) 7 Apr 2018 (Forum)
As the owner of a Mercedes C class I have experienced this problem over the winter period and carried out a little research. On Mercedes in particular there are several things can cause this including coolant temperature too high or too low, outside temp, high current drain, low vacuum, seatbelt not fastened, and strangely, cabin temp not reaching the set temp, and probably the ngine management just having a "moment". -
BMW 3 Series E46 - BMW Auto Trans Fluid Change or Not to Change 6 May 2016 (Forum)
One other thing - water pump - replace as a preventative measure or leave well enough alone - no coolant loss or noises. -
Mazda 323 1998 petrol hatchback - won't restart for 2 hours after short trip 8 Jan 2015 (Forum)
It won't catch. AA have been called out four times and suggested camshaft, crankshaft, temperature coolant sensors all of which have been replaced and made no difference. Lambda sensor also replaced. Ecu stripped down, immobiliser examined. Nothing puts it right, once it does get going it flies along fine. -
2002 Ford Fiesta MK6 - Fiesta overheating 20 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I've been trying to diagnose the problem myself. So far this is what I know. The coolant looked a little low, it was topped up but the next day dropped a little. The heating inside the car works intermittently, with the fan on full heat it blows hot for a while then cold. When the engine has run for a while and warmed up the top pipe on the radiator is hot but the bottom is cold. -
Mini Cooper S R56 - Mini Cooper S - Timing Chain Failure 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Purchased new in Sept 2007 and already spent out on Ingnition Coil, Fly Wheel, Clutch and Water Pump. Timing Tensioner upgrade 2009. Turbo Coolant Pump recalled and replaced 2013. Last week the timing Tensioner has had a catistrophic failure and has subsequently seized the engine. The car now needs a new engine! How can a five year old car, with 44,000 miles on the clock and cost over £22,000, need a new engine! -
Vauxhall Vectra B 1.8 16v 2000 estate - Won't pull away when cold 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I'm definitely no expert and by reading various other forums have carried out the yellow wire mod, replaced the plugs, ignition pack, maf sensor and coolant temp sensor, but its still the same. Any ideas please? Thanks for your time. -
2004 Ford Fiesta Finesse 1.25 - Car Heater problem 16 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I have been having problems with my car heater for some time. I have tried lots of coolant and it has not worked. When I turn the car heater to the highest setting it does not work for a good 15/20 minutes (it simply blows out cold air). After around 20 minutes there is a crunching/grinding sound coming from the vents on the passenger side and the heater suddenly starts to work blowing out very hot air. -
volvo 940 se turbo - Volvo 940 beyond repair? 4 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Refilled the oil, started engine and it was pouring out grey smoke. He said possibly seals gone in turbo and was going to be expensive. Also coolant level dropping, another repair. He gave me the impression the cost of repairs compared to value of car was not worth it. Basically...scrap it! Any advice please?!! -
XANTIA HDI 2.0 DIESEL W REG - Warning Light In Temp Gauge + Stop Light 30 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Over the last couple of days the red light in the temp gauge keeps flashing along with the red "STOP" light. After about a minute the flashing stops. the cooling fans also seem to be on constantly when engine running, even with the weather being quite cool The car is not overheating,i have recently changed the coolant and all levels are correct. After trawling the net on this subject i understand its more than likely a bad connection between the brown sensor in the themostat housing & the bitron controll unit (controlls the cooling fans & warning lamps)? -
Subaru Forester 2.5 Turbo - Overheating 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Eventually after talking to Porsche of all people the fault was chased back to the engine right bank cylinder head bolts. These apparently stretch allowing exhaust gases into the coolant system. This only manifests itself after driving 40 miles plus when the engine is fully warmed up. Thankfully the dealer took the hit on the chin and paid for the repairs. They also replaced the timing belt and tensioners, which seems sensible, but they weren't obliged to do this. -
Renault Megane 1.6 16v 2000 - Renault Megane cold starting problem 19 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I've been told it could be a coil but more likely to be the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Any ideas as I would like to sort this out before I put it in for the MOT which is due in a week. Thanks.
