  • Any - Removing Window Tint Film 12 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Crummy wee pot-metal ball joint mounting, perhaps made deliberately weak to avoid pedestrian injury, is proving tricky to fix in a way that’ll allow and hold adjustment, concentrating my mind on the fact that I couldn’t see properly through the back window due to bubbling of the anti-sun plastic film. This is probably a common problem on older cars here in Taiwan. Cue an Internyet search. IIRC I looked here https://cartreatments.com/how-to-remove-window-tint/ and went for a combination of Method 3 “Solar Peel” – you put black plastic from a rubbish bag over the outside of the glass which heats up in the sun (usually reliable here) and transfers that heat to the glass, softening the glue.
  • Last mainstream car with front drum brakes? 8 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Clearing some junk out of the shed last night, I came across a set of brake shoes for a long-extinct Vauxhall Viva - front shoes, that is. The car was an early 'HC' model - '72 'J'-reg - but it got me wondering when did the last mainstream car roll off the production line sporting front drum brakes? I remember the ones on the Viva were dreadful, BTW :-)

(Would still be plenty of air flow from the vent below 'bumper' level). Car definitely runs better and better mpg in hot temperatures. Thoughts, please?

  • Clearalex - is it still available 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My new-to-me Accord is suffering from a smeary windscreen. In time past I have used sachets of Clearalex crystals in the washer water and been very impressed. Is this product still available - none of my local motoring shops sell it and they tell me that they can't get it anymore.
  • rover 220 wipers 13 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Ihave a rover 220 diesel, the windscreen wipers will only work on normal or fast speeds, on intermittant they stop half way up the screen and seem to please their self when they want to stop or start. When you switch off they will park anywhere but where they should.
  • Avensis wind noise 4 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I have a new Avensis which suffers from terrible wind noise at high speed and which seems to come from the top of the windscreen. I have previously had an Avensis on hire and don't remember this problem. Does anyone have any experience of this or any advice as to the cause and remedy ?
  • BMW rear view mirror 18 Mar 2002 (Forum)
My 1995 BMW 3 series just dropped its rear view mirror this weekend. Luckily its still intact. However this mirror was glued to the windscreen and I have no clue as to re-fixing it. Will any commercial quality quick-stick glue (Loctite) work?
  • Ibiza, Leon or Focus 13 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The reason these cars were selected was because she likes the style of the SEAT's and I told her what a good car my old Focus mk1 1.6 was...but she seems to look down on the Ford as common and unreliable... Something she didn't test, but thought about when she got back was on the 3-doors do the front seats (Focus and Ibiza) return to their original position or not?
  • UKPC Parking Charge 25 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Today my wife parked in the new UKPC  car park at St Stephen's Place in Trowbridge, Wilts.  The car park offers 3 hours of free parking, but a ticket must be displayed.  My wife failed to display a ticket.  She returned to the car after less than an hour to find a "Parking Charge" stuck to the windscreen of £100, or £60 if paid within 14 days.
  • Ford - Missed Payment 11 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Last month for the first time in 11 years I missed a payment, yesterday I spoke to Ford Credit to say I would make a payment manually, however when I got home I noticed the car had a sticker in the top corner of the passenger side windscreen. The sticker was blue and said Ford OK and a tick. The sticker has been applied from the inside and could have been applied since Sunday as I haven't been in the car.

  • Honda Civic experiences 4 Sep 2006 (Forum)
What should we be looking at, she probably does less than 10k a year. Will the 1.4 be enough or is it underpowered for such a big heavy car? Are there any issues which we should be aware of? I have already told her that as part of the test drive she needs to take it to a car park and practice some reversing due to the rear windscreen visibility issues.
