Fuel prices California style 11 May 2008 (Forum)
The folks out here are starting to hurt with the fuel prices. Here in Placerville the cheapest regular unleaded is now $3.98, with premium at $4.45...diesel is also $4.45 US gallon. There was a front page article in USA Today yesterday about how the latest increase is having a major impact on how people are changing their driving habits...big trucks sales are taking a hammering, and even my friend with her 2.5 Outback now remarks on how expensive it is to gas up. -

Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - (88-95) 1.7TD - Can I mix Bio Fuel and diesel? 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have a diesel car (Isuzu engine) which previous owner ran on bio fuel.is it ok to refill with diesel when bio fuel is still in tank {before anyone asks what car and engine, I've found the details via a forum search. Helps if you include that info to make the question less vague!} -
Supermarket Fuel 30 Nov 2007 (Forum)
There are 3 diesels in the family - and all of us have nnoticed that when we use supermarket fuel (especially Tesco) we get 3 to 5 mpg LESS than we do when we fill up with Shell. Fortunately, our Shell garage sells at the same price (sometimes cheaper - even with Tesco 5p off a litre) than the local Tesco and Morrisons, but I've tended to use Tesco simply to get Clubcard points. -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - Dti - fuel consumption 17 Jan 2007 (Forum)
For 2 1/2 years (since the car was new) ive been questioning the fuel consumption figures, the best my self and the vauxhall garage can get out of it is 41mpg (the official figures are 53mpg). Vauxhall have had the car back about ten times and changed a variety of parts but no improvement, they are now saying that this mpg is exceptable. -
VWbeetle - fuel tank jelly engine probs 15 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Am having engine problems (pop-pop-popping & more recently just cutting out). We think its being caused by an opaque/translucent jelly from the fuel tank which we have found blocking filters, the carb needle valve, main jet, emulsion tubes - its getting into everything! After clearing the car will work for a while but this jelly returns quickly. -

While in the qeue at the filling stn I started to read the V power leaflet and it talks about one of the fuels properties being this Friction Modification Technolgy. -
peugeot hdi economy 1 May 2006 (Forum)
Just wondered if people could let me know what their fuel economy is on peugeot HDI engines. My dad just got a 406 estate 2.0L (110bhp) and got 850 miles out of 1 tank believe it or not. Im interested in the 306 HDI but wondered if the fuel economy is as good? -
Pug406 HDi Fuel Pump 16 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Not sure I dare ask this in light of previous posts.... My 406 has started making a low 'brrrrrrr' noise which seems to come from the fuel pump on the engine. It started intermittently but now seems to do it all the time, but the car runs fine. Any clues as to it's cause? Is it likely to be a sign of internal damage - cue big bills? -
Fiesta 1.1 Fuel smell in cabin 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The car is a 1.1 Carburettor H reg. A work colleague has been having a few headaches recently and She says fuel be smelt when the engine is off and the air vents are open and the fan on. The lady concerned had the ford serviced at a main dealer and the found the fault and stated it was a valve in the air cleaner (Mushroom valve) The problem is still there. -

Supermarket petrol - any difference? 23 Dec 2005 (Forum)
After reading the papers and seeing interviews on the TV about the fire at the Buncefield fuel depot, it was said that tankers from Tesco, BP and Total were all lined up for filling along side each other to fill up from the same fuel line. This suggests to me that the petrol quality from supermarkets is the same as those from major suppliers, as they seem to get the fuel from exactly the same source. -
Fuel economy figures 27 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This question has been nagging me for a while. When the official fuel consumption figures are determined, I assume that they are done 'under laboratory conditions'. I further assume that they are carried indoors, on a rolling road. Does this mean that the aerodynamic differences between cars counts for nothing, and that is why two different cars will get different figures in the real world, despite having similar offical figures? -
Customs casts net wider for fuel smuggle 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Interesting article on how Customs are tackling fuel smugglers who are removing the red dye from diesel. (Today's Daily Telegraph). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2005/09/08/cnfuel8.xml Sounds as if you could do far more harm to your engine than the money that might be saved. -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to add to the thread. -

government company car milleage rates 8 Jul 2005 (Forum)
The new advisory rates for company vehicle has just been revised to take into account higher fuel prices see here: www.hmrc.gov.uk/cars/fuel_company_cars.htm (sorry cannot seem to do a link to web site). however they have decided that the fuel rate for 2000cc is increased from previous rates given, but less than 2000cc the rate will remain the same.reason given is to reflect increase in fuel economy since 2001 of these smaller engined vehicles.Well does any one agree with this statement? -
Isn't it about time for a fuel strike? 27 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Ok so did anyone else notice the news on Saturday - 4th news item behind the Pope's funeral, the royal wedding and Rover's demise was that little matter that petrol prices are now the highest they've ever been.... We had the UK fuel crisis when prices were about 10p a litre below what they are now??!! Isn't it time we all went on strike and abandoned our cars and stayed at home all day? Go on the weather's turned nice.... Rich -
Peugeot 405 Diesel Running Problems 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
When you have to go up hill it loses all power and really struggles - as soon as you start to go back down the hill - all is fine again. I'm thinking the pickup to from the fuel tank might have become blocked as the car had been standing a while before I had it. The car has a lucas fuel system with what appears to be the Bosch fuel filter. -
Peugeot 106 Diesel Leak 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1994 106 Key West 1.4D (stop laughing) that i use just for running to and from work. It seems to be leaking fuel from the pump somewhere. If I get stuck in traffic for any length of time I get smoke from the engine block where the fuel has leaked or been splashed onto it. I have checked the fuel lines, they seem ok but I can't pinpoint the source of the leak.
