Mazda Offers Scrappage Without a Scrapper 20 Mar 2010 (News)
“We benefited from the scheme taking more than our fair share of the scrappage market, but it did discriminate against anyone who did not have a 10 year old car to scrap. “Now that the Government scrappage fund has run out many manufacturers have launched their own version of the scrappage scheme. In fact, there are now so many different offers with different terms and conditions, some on 10 year old cars and some on seven year old cars, that choosing the best scheme is both difficult and confusing for the customer and requires a car to part exchange or scrap. -

Hyundai’s managing director, Tony Whitehorn, said: “It’s crucial that we get the cars out to buyers as soon as possible, and not only because the customers want their nice new car. The government funds are fast running out, and we want to make sure Hyundai buyers can secure their slice of the scrappage handout before the scheme ends.” The i20 supermini has secured nearly 5,000 orders, as buyers baulk at the massive price increases loaded on by rivals in the past few months. -

Refreshments will be on sale, while there will also be a number of trade stands and autojumble pitches, which are free to any seller who wants to turn up – there’s no need to book. The OBs will leave the Heritage Centre at midday on a road run to Bletchley Park, near Milton Keynes – although of course Milton Keynes itself didn’t exist at the time when Bletchley was at its most strategic. The venue was significant in 20th century history as home of the World War Two codebreakers, and houses a German Engima machine among other WW2 artefacts. -
Buyers Turn a Profit on Scrappage 23 Jun 2009 (News)
“The potential profit is greatest for those cars where the nearly-new value is currently high in relation to the list prices; notably small, affordable cars with low running costs,” explains Adrian Rushmore, Managing Editor at Glass’s. “Extended new-car delivery times are supporting these windfall profits, because prospective buyers not eligible for the scheme are more likely to gravitate towards second-hand examples – indirectly boosting residual values – rather than suffering the wait for a new model. -

Used car sales plummet in Q3 2008 15 Dec 2008 (News)
Kirk Fletcher, Managing Director of Experian’s Automotive division, said: “The criteria for choosing a car has changed significantly, with price consciousness now featuring heavily on the list for most consumers.
