  • Almera Auto weird fuel economy 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I have a Nissan Almera 1.6 SLX Auto, 1997 model. The car is great all round. However, the fuel economy, even for an auto, is weird. Can someone please shed some light .... On motorway (or on a run) the car is remarkably economical, doing 40+mpg. However, around town it only does about 15mpg.
  • Fiat Punto Overfuelling 12 Feb 2003 (Forum)
MAP sensor appears to be OK but not exactly sure how to test. Did wonder if fuel reg pressure is too high but I can't see how the ECU would know about this, hence how would it know to put fuel injection warning light on? I'm beginning to suspect the ECU but that's a bit drastic!
  • Audi 100 s4 fuel consumption 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Hi I have just bought a 1994 Audi S4 Avant Auto, it has been chipped to stage 1 level and has 270 HP, it is a great car, fantastic to drive and fast the only trouble is I am only averaging around 15mpg, for a mixture of town and dual carriage way driving, I do drive the car quite hard but my wife drives it mainly and very sedately and the mpg still does not increase much at all. Does anyone with a similar car get fuel consumption this low or does it point to a fault with the car, the car runs well and I use Shell Optimax unfortunately I cannot afford to only get 250 miles from a £55 tank of fuel. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated.
  • Seat Ibiza 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hello Iv got a Seat Ibiza with a 17oocc Diesel engine with a lack of fuel problem, the car didnt break down ,I used it one day then when I tried to start it the next day it wouldnt start.its defenitly lack of fuel. I cant, after having a quick look, find a pump other than the injector pump. though the fuel filter has a bleed screw, so my thinking is if the only pump is the injector pump then surely opening the bleed screw would just suck air in.

  • Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 - Premium Unleaded Fuel 2 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I looked around online, interested in how i could get better mpg from my car. Started looking into Premium Fuels and it became clear to me fairly quickly Shell V Power + unleaded was the best quality fuel to be putting in your car for longevity of your engine and also hopefully better mpg, i wasnt really interested in hikes in performance as its a 1.2 Corsa.
  • FIAT Ducato - UFI Fuel filter leaks - potential danger 9 Sep 2015 (Forum)
On checking, I found diesel dripping from the engine bay but could not see anything loose. i contacted the RAC and a patrol came to my help. Investigation revealed that there was a fuel leak between the top of the fuel filter and main housing. The patrolman removed the housing, checked the o-ring and put the housing back. I was able to complete my journey, but always concerned a leak would develop.
  • Honda Civic 1.5 Automatic VTEC hatchback, year 200 - Poor fuel economy 7 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Honda recently looked at this fuel consumption problem. They replaced the spark plugs, checked ignition timing, valve timing and clearances and fuel mixture which were all within manufactures specs. They checked the air filter and air intake system and then carried out a ECU clear and re-learn.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - replacement fuel pumps 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Happened again a couple of weeks later with a full tank. My local garage said it would have to go to a fuel specialist and if it was found to be the fuel pump then it would be big bill. I had to agree to this as work is quiet and cant get another for 12 months. Anyway to cut a long story short, the 'specialist' diagnosed the problem and changed the fuel pump.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 hdi - starting problems P0230 & P1138 24 Jul 2008 (Forum)
From speaking to various peugeot workers and readin through forums it seems P1138 is a common code after a shutdown and P0230 usually relates to the LP fuel pump. The car will fire up with the key and will run for maybe 5 seconds before dying again of its own accord. Putting the ignition on can hear the LP pump in the tank fire up and also fuel rushing through the inlet into the fuel filter.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 TDCi - will not start poor fuel delivery? 1 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Been on before on this - for 7 months now, once in a while my Focus 03 plate only 24K miles 1.8TDCi 115PS refuses to start -RAC men says it fuel delivery its been into Ford Dealer had £2000 (yes 2000) of parts fitted new PCM, new fuel pump system etc crankshaft sensor yet still plays up. Then in November it got towed in yet again this time Ford Dealer say 'its fixed' it was a chafed wire under the gearbox, wire part of fuel delivery they said.
  • Mondeo TDCi CR pump info 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Due to a number of misdiagnosed common rail fuel pumps, it is necessary to re-issue this bulletin. If any fault codes are present, these should first be investigated and resolved individually. If the concern is still present, a sample of fuel should be collected and analyzed to determine if insufficient bedding of the rollers has taken place. ________
  • focus tdi economy problems? 4 Apr 2003 (Forum)
also i've heard about a few devices to improve economy and or power / performance. first is ProZone FuelSaver in-line fuel magnetiser/catalyst/fuel swirl device: http://www.fuelsaver.co.uk/faqs.htm other is a much cheaper alternative homemade version which is simply a screwdriver magnetiser clipped around your fuel line near fuel pump to magnetise the fuel.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 51 reg 2.0 petrol - value & fuel consumption. 2 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Glad to see the website and forum is still doing well in its new restful blueish look! Anyone run a Mondeo Estate 2.0 petrol to know their real life fuel consumption? Also I wonder what a trade sale (not p/x) value would be for a clean 51 plate Ghia with 86K and history up to 70K? Thanks, David
  • Vauxhall Astra - Fuel additive for low blow engines 23 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Looking at the fixed price service prices, an interim is £160 with the proviso: "Fixed price servicing price does not include Fuel additive for low blow turbo engines. If required this will be an additional £19.20." Never used an additive in any car, but then I've never had a turbo before. So, worth having or snake oil?
