  • Any - Family car for under £6k challenge 17 May 2012 (Forum)
Can't have under floor storage, must be reliable and have a large boot. If it's a diesel it can't have a DPF. Hit me up with your suggestions. The only car that fits most of those criteria at the moment is a Renault Megane Estate 1.5 DCI, or a Peugeot 307 SW 1.6 HDI, but I'm rather scared of those with reliability side of things (and with the pug the DPF).

  • Why won't my Volvo V50 2.0d rev beyond 3000rpm? 6 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
I have a 2005 Volvo V50 2.0d (full Volvo service history) with 140,000 miles that will not rev beyond 3000rpm. Have you any ideas as to why this is?
  • TBC - Diesel or Petrol - The eternal question (DPF) 16 Oct 2018 (Forum)
My question is, can I get aware with a diesel equivalent (to help my search for a car) yet not have to worry about DPF issues??  It is likely to be sat around for 3 or 4 days a week not moving, but a trip into work is only 15 Miles and only includes a short 5 minute dual carriage way drive followed by another 30 minutes of heavy traffic that generally moves, but not always.
  • The Dreaded Particulate Filter. 23 Dec 2016 (Forum)
My fear is that if I do buy a diesel I'm almost certainly going to encounter the dreaded DPF issue due to my short trips. Would this be a fair assumption or is it just that I'm just hearing the bad side of this subject? I'm happy to take the car out for a 'blast' along the motorway to keep the DPF in 'good fettle' but would I have to do this once a week/month/year or what?
  • Seat Leon DPF problems 17 Feb 2016 (Ask HJ)
I own a SEAT Ibiza ST, which I bought new in 2010. After about a year of owneship the DPF light started coming on, requiring me to take the car for a run...
  • Mercedes E Class estate 2015 - Mercedes DPF problems 23 Jan 2016 (Forum)
However, I live in London and will be using it around town and rarely on a long trip. I am aware diesels need to go on a run every so often to clean out the DPF. I have considered a 250CGI but I know it will be underpowered. I had had an Audi A6 which I had to do a run and currently have a BMW 5 touring diesel which in 1 year I've had to call Bmw out to clean out a valve, which worked.
  • Volkswagen Passat CC - DPF filter 12 Dec 2014 (Forum)
For a passatt cc it is a big ifference and it bithers me bacuse why should I pay more when I know its not right?  So  I took the car to a garage, where the guy diagnised the "dpf illness". He said it is clogged and the it can cause damage further down the line it is not taken care of. He said the car looks fine but it is in an emergency state. At the end he said that he will remove the filter, reset the comupter and make it eco friendly.
  • Peugeot 407 SW 2.0HDi Auto (4 speed) 2005 - 136bhp - Onboard computer reading 45mpg real MPG 27mpg 9 Oct 2014 (Forum)
It was fully serviced after the second tank of fuel, but the fuel economy has not really improved as the third tank where I got only 30mpg included a long trip, including motorway from Shrewsbury to Banbury. The mechanic said it might be the diesel particulate filter (DPF) that is to blame. Shouldn't a blocked DPF throw up an error? Would a blocked DPF not allow the onboard computer to calculate the MPG correctly? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  • Toyota Avensis Tourer 2.2 D-4D or 1.8 V-matic 19 Feb 2014 (Ask HJ)
I drive about 12,000 per year and am looking at a 2009 Avensis Tourer 2.2 D-4D TR with 70,000 from a main dealer (Toyota approved, 12 months warranty)...
  • Mazda 6 Diesel Estate - Mazda Mazda Mazda oh dear 24 Dec 2013 (Forum)
i thought i would post my disgust in Mazda Engines as i cant believe how unlucky i have been. I purchased a Mazda 6 estate in 2011 on a 56 plate and nearly a year later due to a DPF problem had to get rid having spent over 1K trying to get it sorted. Thinking i was unlucky with that one decided to buy another one from a main dealer in September 2012 with just short of 80,000 how wrong i was - a year later with just short of 90,000 on well december 2013 whilst driving the DPF light started flashing and the engine management light came on so quickly booked into main dealer garage £ 500 later for an oil leak Rocker cover gasket, DPF regenerated, Oil and filter change etc etc (even though it had one in August) then a day later the engine started whining so booked in again.
  • 07 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel - Loss of Power: 2007 Mazda 6 2.0 TS Diesel 8 Dec 2013 (Forum)
I can drop it to 4th/5th gear and drive at 50-60mph to get home.  It first happened a week before a service/MOT.  They did a static DPF regeneration and oil/filter change.  Oil levels weren't excessively high (below "F"), and I've always had the low ash oil put in.  This didn't cure it.  "Current" fuel consumption readings as I drive are good suggesting that the DPF isn't trying to regenerate as I'm driving.
  • Would you buy a- dpf demo car 12 May 2012 (Forum)
(failed regeneration on too many short demo runs) I have read nothing more on the subject, so assume sorted, but talking to my local dealer the other day, they had an aveo 1.3vcdi demo and the warning light came on and has stayed on, so is now being dealt with. My question is who would buy any dpf fitted car now used as there is no way to check if there are potential problems lurking! Is the only way to be sure of no problems only to buy new or to stick to petrol? my choice now seems to be coming down to an aveo 1.2 or 1.4 petrol or the cruze 1.6 petrol hatchback.
  • Kia Cee'd 1.6 Diesel (113) - 'High Power' - Kia Cee'd - DMF, DPF, chain cam? True or false... 27 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Anyway, if anybody can confirm (or deny!) the following, I'd be grateful:- 1) The car does not have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) 2) Strangely, the car does not have a dual mass flywheel (DMF) 3) The engine is chain cam, rather than cam belt. Cheers Mr Moo
  • Is there a known DPF problem with the Suzuki Grand Vitara? 2 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
I was wondering if you know if there is a common fault with the Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.9l diesel's DPF? I'm having trouble with the warranty on my car....
  • Mazda 6/Mazda 5 - Mazda 6 Diesel DPF and Oil Level Problems - Legal 12 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I haven't had the oil level problem (yet) maybe bacause of the amount of motorway driving I do. But I have had almost all of the other problems I have read about on this site, to do with DPF. I have written to Mazda UK and am not confident - given what I have read in this forum - it will get me anywhere. I have written to the BBC Watchdog programme. I have considered legal action as well.
  • Mercedes-Benz GLA - DPF regeneration problems... reject car? 24 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I called the dealer and he told me to bring it in for a diagnostics. This showed that a DPF regen was attempted on both those days but failed to complete because the ignition was switched off (first time after 18 minutes, second time after 23 minutes). When I bought the car no mention was made of a DPF filer or that it needed regular cleaning.
