Cheap car insurance 28 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I was told that if I asked for this information the offer on the table would be lost, and that I may well have to pay the full amount - £60, the cancellation charge alone £55. Predictably I have accepted the offer, but I am not happy, especially as Dial Direct?s price today ? 28 February ? for exactly the same policy on the same car is £198.57 plus £12.99 for legal protection ? a total of £211.56 compared to the £250.05 I have finally paid. So the message is ? -

Cars easier to service, DIY declining 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The following ( manual brake adjustment/tappets/head removal/decokes/lapping in valves//greasing/contactbreakers/frequent spark plug replacement/HT leads/distributercap/dealing with structural rust), are no longer part of the regular DIY of contemporary cars Some current car *engines* are only oil and filter changes (Servicing for the actual engine at routine services) . OK I`m refering to the Fiats Multjet here as I`m familiar with it, but the aygo`s petrol engine must be similar. Both with hydraulic tappets and chain drive camshafts reducing servicing even more. OK, so the computer, management systems are there, but not part of regular servicing. -
Yamaha MT01 1670cc V-twin. 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It produces an immense, for a motorcycle, 150nm torque peaking at 3750 rpm, highish in this low revving engine?s range though the torque curve is very flat so it is probably producing 90% of that at less than 2000 rpm. One result of a large engine in a bike is huge engine braking, useful for rolling on/off the throttle over-takes though I reckon it would be easy to lock the back wheel by going down one gear to many on a wet, greasy road. -

Based on information gleaned from the CBCB and Parker?s, here are some of the diesel cars/engines I'm trying to find out more about: Audi 80 Mk1 1.6TD 80bhp (3speed auto?), 1986-1991 BMW 318 TDS 1.7 litre 90 bhp, 1991-1998 Citroen AX 1.5 D 58bhp, 1994-1997 Citroen BX 1.9 D 71 bhp auto, 1991-93 Fiat Tipo 1.9 TD 92 bhp, 1992-1995 Mercedes 190D 2.0 72bhp, 4-speed auto, 1983-1993 Mercedes C-Class C220D 2.2 94 bhp auto, 1993-2000 Nissan Primera 2.0 D 90 bhp auto, 1992-1996 (89 bhp 1996-1999) Seat Arosa/VW Lupo 1.7 litre SDI 60 bhp, 1997 on Volvo 440/460 1.9 TD 89 bhp (Renault engine!) -
You're going to love me... 17 Mar 2006 (Forum)
So, thoughts? Next thought was....and you're going to laugh here. Mitsubishi FTO. I know! These are 2.0 V6's and I'm sure I read a while ago Aprilia praising the MIVAC engines. They're fairly small and I realise I've gone from family car to fun car but I'm just weighing up all the options. I don't have kids or anything so I don't NEED so many doors and I'm just wondering whether it's best I get the silly car business out of my system before I turn 30, have a house, wife, kids, dogs etc etc. -
Legal experience sought 15 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I refused and insisted he speak to his boss, which he did in private. He emerged and said "nothing to do with us, we haven't touched your gearbox, it 's your bad luck" I spoke to regional manager who said they wouldn't accept responsiblity and so I explained I was taking it to a auto-box specialist. Problem was identified as a multi-function switch and transmisison ECU failure. -
Thoughts on replacing Polo 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Saw an advert for the petrol Fabia Sport yesterday too - any thoughts on either of these? Then there's the Civic Type R, or the poor man's S version, both of which I know are great cars. Anyone got anything bad to say about them? I like the new golf and the look of the new Polo, but don't want to pay VW prices when I could get virtually the same car from Seat, so VWs are out. -

One man's Easter 15 Apr 2004 (Forum)
On Good Friday almost none, thus it was our 3 Harleys cruised its length at 170kph while cops on their KMX 125's and in their Nissan pickups waved feebly at us but could never catch us (regular limit is 100kph max, 60kph min). But to the point of the post: Lovely holiday signs by the roadside: interestingly in this country of 600 languages and dialects -- all in English (or sort of) Remember someone is waiting for you at home Tailgating is discourteous (58 million drivers must have no manners then) Drive now, text later (but my mistress is asking where I am, my wife is in the back and if I don't text her back she's gonna call me and I am in the proverbial) Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheels (sic) (might involve a few contortions and whoever conceived that must surely own The Doors' Greatest Hits) Don't throw your litters (visions of multiple kittens being ejected from AUV's) Drink a lot in hot weather (well I'll subscribe to that) Check your breaks regularly (lost me there) Speed may thrill but speed may kill Do not drink while you are driving (wot, not even water?) -

Way too expensive at £18,800 and even that was provisional! Of the ones that sold the following looked nice: V reg Mercedes E280 2.8 petrol in silver but manual and cloth. 82K FMBSH. -
Car Accessory Shop Hell 27 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I needed some decent cloths to clean the interior fabrics of the Fiesta as there were a few marks starting to appear, so whilst I was in the accessory shop I picked up a packet of Valeting cloths. They say that they are lint free and that\'s about it. No directions for use, or comments about suitability for different areas of the car. However, as I\'ve always been fairly happy with their own brand stuff in the past, I bought them. -
What to buy????????? 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Prefer 2 litre has 6 disc CD, disc's on the rear, and ABS. Then looked at Mondeo estates 2.0/2.5 in Zetec, Zetec S and Ghia X trim (can't resist 6disc CD and big wheels) good value for money at super sites and such. Read loads of reviews on the Mondeo, and found wind noise and refinement not as good as others in class. -
Another Gatso letter in the newspaper. 24 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Between 1999 and 2000, trials of speed cameras, (Gatsos) in eight areas found three of the areas with increases in fatalities of up to 18%. Why were we not told of that? The study?s claim that, ?Gatsos save lives? have been dismissed as ?naughty? by statisticians from Cardiff University. Having looked at the results they said, ?To attribute any reduction to speed cameras is not justifiable? -

Tesco insurance SCAM?? 5 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I am not sure, since they only told me on the phone ? I have to get something in black & white. The guy just told me this is their company?s procedure & I think this is ridiculous. I am going to complain ? but what else can I do???? Be warmed: all of you with Tesco policy and under similar circumstance, pls. ring them to ensure that everything is fine (for the sake of peace in mind). -

Positioning - Nigel Albright 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
In fact the subject could be a perennial one because of the interwoven affair between these two. It?s a sort of love/hate relationship. Each one may have a good reason for taking priority at any moment of time; but the only certain thing is that safety will always win if there is a clash of interests. -
Should we buy a Dacia Duster or a Suzuki Vitara? 25 Oct 2022 (Ask HJ)

Vauxhall/Audi/Seat - Changing my 2 cars 27 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Impressionsd thus far. For the money I am very pleased. Fuel consumption is consistently in the mid 50's. Spacve wise the car is a revelation. People are consistently impressed by the legroom and boot space. It has become our main family car and is proving very capable in that respect. It has a good level of equipment and for the price I am hard pressed to think of anything that comes close expect possibly a Dacia, And I am very sceptical about them at the moment.
