  Does anyone have any idea of why the battery failed?  Is there any history of sealed-for-life batteries being susceptible to high temperatures ( the bonnet & engine bay seemed very hot when I opened up to check the battery)?

  From RTFFordM I am now a much wiser owner of a MK II Mondeo. Is it unreasonable that I might have to get a new battery or some tyres fitted? Battery. The battery requires minimal maintenance. The level of battery fluid is regularly checked as part of every service, No mention of battery specification. So I have to trust it will be replaced at service time.

  Try to restart: total death! Fortunately local garage comes out to jump start; alternator ok (phew!); battery replaced. Easy. But some questions asrise, on which I'd welcome comments: 1. Bar chat suggests that modern batteries give no death rattles (such as hestitant starting etc, as used to happen with earlier generation batteries) but are simply fine one moment yet utterly dead the next.

  The battery on my E92 325i needs to be changed. Reading various forums there is much disagreement over whether the car would need to be reprogrammed when I change it. I would use a bosch S5 96.   Does a change of battery need re programming?

  Hi, I have just taken posession of a 4L jeep cherokee with gas conversion. Since getting it home after 3 days the battery is discharging every time I drive it. The gauge show about 14 when driving but after leaving it about an hour it seems to drain. I am replacing the battery today so will let you know .....   regds prew

  I've taken my wife's car off the road for a few months and taken off the battery. What I want to know is if i connect a 12 volt 500ma transformer to the battery will it keep it topped up ok? or will I need a proper trickle charger? I will be checking it every week with a volt meter

  How long can a 12v battery power 200w for? Battery is on a diesel so has a higher rating but of course diesels are also harder to start. I bought one of those little 12v heater things last year and with the mornings getting chilly it would be handy to be able to plug it in for a while before I leave.

  I\'ve just replaced the second battery in my Golf VR6 after 42 months of life; the first battery lasted 44 months. I\'m curious to know whether these look like reasonable figures. I think they probably are, given the car and its electrical demands (windows, heated seats, A/C, etc.), but any comparative information would be of interest.

  No courtesy lights, no dash lights, wouldn't start. Breakdown guy arrived and tried to use a booster - battery completely dead. Car recovered to dealer who kept it overnight on a trickle charge. Battery charged but technician not happy with voltage readings so Mazda gave permission for new battery to be fitted.

  Hi there, I just recently bought a Mazda 2 from a private seller and after a few weeks of use the battery charging light has come on. I tested the voltages across the battery and alternator and they were both fine (12.3v and 14.5v respectively). I also checked the majority of the fuses in the car which were also fine.

  Bought a 3 month old MX5 from a franchised dealer on 31/12/13, only 65 miles on clock, allegedly a demo car. Every 2 weeks it fails to start and battery is dead. Been in local Mazda dealers for a total of 5 weeks out of the 11 weeks i have owned it, it has had 3 batteries and the latest one has just failed again. Dealer can find no drain on battery, but something is clearly draining it and presenting itself as a faulty cell on the battery.

  After the car had been standing for four days I went to start it only to get the dreaded clicking that accompanies winter temperatures. The car is on its original battery (a 66AH) I left the battery on charge yesterday and the car fired up fine after 8 hours. As part of my test/process of elimination I went out this morning expecting it to either not turn or sound pretty sick - thus indicating that the battery can no longer hold charge and needs to be replaced.

  Hi all I went out and tried to start up my Mondeo today (97MY Verona) and as I turned the key there was a loud bang and a plume of smoke emitted from the front left of the bonnet (where the battery is). I had a look and the battery had literally exploded chucking/dripping acid around the inside of the engine bay - the securing bracket held what was left of the case in situ. I called the RAC and 40 mins later they were out , and replaced the battery for me...he also flushed out where the battery had been with water.

  The replacement battery delivered 10.5 volts when operating the starter, which is fine from what I have read, but the cranking speed didn't seem a lot better, even after I had charged the battery in case it had lost charge while sitting in the shop.

  My battery is showing it's age and have been deciding on it's replacement. I am a great believer in having power in reserve and after a bit of research I read on one site that it was a worthwhile upgrade fitting an AGM battery if you are not doing many miles and mostly short runs.
