  • Fiesta 1.25 Zetec oil pressure.... 17 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Since it is likely to be used in this way fairly frequently in the future is there an easy way to prevent it firing immediately so that cranking brings up the oil pressure? I am not averse to taking out a fuse eg, but do I run into further problems with petrol contamination of catalyst? or loss of ECU settings which can be even less desirable? The plug leads are not immediately accessible in the dark! PS For info - Alarm on same car.
  • Honda Civic Brake (?) Noise 1 Jan 2001 (Forum)
They are aware that a noise can be experienced from certain vehicles due to oxidisation build up on the brake discs which is self rectifying following a journey of a reasonable length, and regretting that Honda (UK) is unable to recommend any further modifications to overcome this occurrence.? My local journeys are usually 5 to 10 miles with very occasional motorway runs of 50 to 100 miles. The tyres are Pirelli P4000 on alloy rims, supplied as standard.

Ford Sierra L - Again another big car with absolutely nothing on it. Big, simple, reliable and comfortable. Best with the ancient 1.6 Pinto under the hood as it would run and run if it had regular fresh oil or the ancient Peugeot 2.3 diesel that was impossible to kill. Taxi drivers loved them for their simplicity. Ford Orion Classic - Pals folks bought one new. It was a special edition that was cheaper than the L and had absolutely nothing on it except a sunroof.
  • Nerves frayed and shot 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It was like a bank of cylinders was being starved of fuel and it felt like I had a pneumatic drill running in the boot. I was panicking by now and holding the car on the brakes while keeping it at 2000 rpm in the hope that it wouldn't stall. And it didn't, the vibrations passed and I continued to search for another station.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec 2011 - Bought very dodgy used car 9 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Subsequently, in the 500 miles of driving it, we have had a few problems. The water system has run completely dry and the water temperature light has come on. The car has no temperature gauge. Now, no water is leaking out, though the exhaust is spitting, which tells me water is getting into the engine and coming out through the exhaust, though checking the oil shows no emulsifying.

Dealer expects to sell plenty more on motability with Citroen/Peugeot/Vauxhall pushing up their van Based MPV prices on the Berlingo / Rifter / Combo Life Mustang - sales and enthusiasm starting to slow New Focus - Petrol DPF a real headache for some customers who only do short runs, has had to buy 2 back and down size the customers into Fiesta Actives. Fiesta active - says it’s a good car but over priced, customers struggle to justify the finance offers compared to rivals such as on the Nissan Juke, Dacia Sandero Stepway and Suzuki, says Ford need to offer a base model.
  • Ford C-MAX - C-Max CVT Settlement 8 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Specific details of the transmission failure and car's condition were irrelevant to my case since the only solution available for any transmission failure was a replacement transmission and neither Ford nor my dealer could provide satisfactory assurance that the replacement would address the inherent weaknesses of this model. The breakthrough came after my dealer (owner of a family-run firm) had received and read my witness statement. He had the courage and decency to go round his lawyers and write to Ford, copy me, suggesting we should all take a “cool hard look at ourselves in the mirror”   He continued: “Ford baked a run of cakes using the wrong flour and need to admit it”  He described the C-Max CVT as having: “ this wretched design of gearbox, which two clicks of a mouse on Google will tell you what the world knows, that you wouln't sell one of these to your worst enemy, with this transmission fitted” I could not agree more.
  • 2003 Peugeot 307 gxl auto h/b petrol - social financial emotional affects of car repairs 19 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I'm 67 today, old -fashioned maybe but I believe in treating the customer professionally and with respect. His lack of communication, not keeping me up to speed, not making me aware of running costs is totally unfair. If he is busy, good for him but I've never been so busy that I was unable to contact a customer. It has cost me financially, socially and emotionally, I'm actually feeling angrier by the day or am I being unreasonable.
  • Nissan Almera Tino - Suggestions for Automatic replacement 18 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Specifics are:- Needs to have a high drivers seat height - I can't find any website that specifies this to allow model comparison but the Tino seat height seems to be higher than your average saloon / estate like Astra / Mondeo  Budget around £8k to £10k We do less than 3k miles per year and mostly town driving so it has to be petrol due to all the DPF nonsense currently afflicting diesels - we'd kill a modern diesel within a year I suspect due to our majority short cold run usage. Not too concerned with mpg. The Tino does around 28mpg around town / 38mpg on a run so somewhere around there would be good if possible. Not too concerned around engine size  Needs to have at least a boot area, with back seats in use, the size of a Tino (410 litres according to the specs) - why they measure boot space in a liquid volume is beyond me - just seems to be the standard figure quoted.
  • VW Passat/ Skoda Superb - VW 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Reliability? 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Our Citroen C3 1.4 HDI have 37000 km on the clock, and i bought it with 19000 km (2 years ago). Most of the time we drove in City (short runs), and until now no problems at all.. Fuel Consumption (City: 6.5-7 l/100, lowest highway about 5-5.5 L/100) Im saying this to describe my frist impressions with diesel engines.Until this i never bought a diesel, becouse i worried about reliability specialy for short runs   So one of the reason i consider Passat or Superb are their Fuel Consumption (beside they are really comofrotable  and tons of nice equipment).
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 04 1.6 Hdi Non-starter P0087, P1113, P1351 19 Nov 2012 (Forum)
t be changed. I can?t run some injector cleaner through, as I can?t start the engine. The starter still turns the engine over quickly but it doesn?t fire. The MIL is still on. The display still says ?Economy mode active?. The red battery light still stays on even after removing the ignition key.
  • Ford Focus 2.0i ESP 2000 petrol - Car battery capacity 21 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I'm struggling to find the paperwork for the warranty, and slightly more complicatedly the location selling the battery has closed, though the same "group" still runs other outlets, but didn't sell the same parts. I can probably get sorted if faulty but may take time.   Am I expecting too much of the capacity? Is the bottom line this is normal, I screwed up with hitting the battery too hard this week?
  • Semi-automatics. Real fuel consumption 9 Apr 2011 (Forum)
If he does this, then the results will be identical to the manual version.   This is what I presume they do.  They do not run the tests as fully automatic.  What would happen if he left it in auto, and allowed the car to make its own changes?   There wouldn’t be any torque converter losses, but what about the cars ability to choose when to change gear, for example.
  • Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - consumer rights 10 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The exhaust was also throwing out a lot more smoke than it should - initially I thought it was just down to the cold temperatures but even when the car was fully warmed up I began to notice that it still smoked (white though, not blue). I took it back to the dealer with this information and he said he'd take a look. All he did was run some flushing oil through and then put a heavier viscosity oil in. So, in my view this didn't address the problem but merely masked it..possibly. After running the car for the rest of December it transpired that the problem still hadn't been cured so I contacted the dealer again and asked for it to be repaired properly.
  • Volkswagen Polo II (1991 - 1994) - 94 1.3 Engine cutting out 18 Oct 2008 (Forum)
My daughter's 1994 Polo (1.3 petrol engine) has had an intermittent problem over the last few months. Back in May the engine cut out on a short run from the supermarket. The mechanic was called out, arrived 20 minutes later and the car wouldn't start when they tried it. They opened the bonnet to see why, they tried to start it again and bingo it started - even though they hadn't done anything.
  • Honda CBR600F - charging problems? 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
He rode the bike 70 odd miles yesterday and it was fine, although again we plugged into the Optimate last night, and it showed "discharged" for about an hour, before showing fully charged and OK. This was directly after a 30 mile motorway run, which struck me as a little odd. I would expect a fully charged battery after a run like this. Have yet to attack it with a multimeter, but does this sound like a regulator/rectifier issue (or the beginnings of one), or is it simply a slightly tired battery.
  • Replacement car suggestions 21 Aug 2005 (Forum)
In some ways I?d be sorry to run it into the ground, I?d almost rather sell it on for someone else to enjoy (the resale value is now firmly in chav territory, and I?ve seen a few T4s with the de rigeur modifications?) In terms of replacement, I would not want to suffer too much of a drop in performance, or in specification.
  • How to Stop children using the bus 16 Dec 2003 (Forum)
In a busy urban area, this wouldn't pose much of a problem, there are plenty of commercial bus services which the children could use. But in a place like rural north Northumberland, there are few if any commercial buses running. This means the council would have to make provision for such a service, so that even though the child would have to bear the cost of the bus journey, the council would bear the cost of providing the bus.
  • What happened here then ?? 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Presumably was used for taxing car, but how come it didn't get into a new name ? Vehicle has 11 months MOT and had been given 6 months tax at the same time, still got 5 months to run. Not unusual except the car would appear not to have been used for a couple of months. Petrol cap flap has been prised open and bent back flat. Rear door lock has been hacked off the frame and welded back on as had one of the hinges.
  • Lexus IS250 21 Jul 2025 (Forum)
there is a third way which a previous mechanic (wrong end of the country now) i used to go to did, which involves undoing one of the downstream ATF fluid lines, then running/cranking the engine, topping up the gearbox with fresh fluid as you go, that way you are only using the gearbox’s own pump to replace fluid, repeating till fresh fluid is coming out of the downstream pipe.
