  • Cars are different inside 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
For example, there was a thread on here a couple of months back which revealed mixed emotions about the looks of the new Mini Clubman. I was complicit in teasing those who liked it about my opinion of their lack of taste. I am now prepared to eat a bit of humble pie. Last week I had the opportunity to drive one in Germany for a while.
  • secret squirrel police cars? 1 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I currently work in Oxford /live in london that means my commute regularly sees me 'observing the speed limit' down the M4 / M3 what did I see heading westwards on the M3 thursday 3 ugly brown audi's (looked like A2's) all new, all with some type of strobe mini light stack on their roof's, all doing well over the ton and racing in convoy. then I remembered last month on the M4 seeing the EXACT same hue on 4 volvo C class estates (with the same type of light stack) again heading westwards.
  • Site Changes 10 Aug 2007 (Forum)
This will not tend to happen if everything is categorised because people will generally only look under the headings that interest them, in effect you end up with ten or twenty mini forums rather than one big one. Also with regard to Technical, the guys who as so helpful in this area such as Screwloose and Aprilia (and many others) can currently comment on any problem with any car however if they had to look through sections categorised by manufacturer and model they would never keep on top of it so some in need of advice, those with more obsucure vehicles, would slip through the net.
  • PDA and Sat Nav combinations 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I am looking for a pda which will run sat nav, I guess Tomtom is the most popular and well known. I have narrowed down my choice to an XDA 2S (with the pull out mini keyboard)or an Ipaq, the 4700 looks well specified. I would like to use this set up with a bluetooth gps receiver to cut down on the wires etc. My preference is for the XDA as it will take a SIM card and can also be used as a phone and also has a camera, a pretty useless accessory to my mind but you never know - could be useful in the event of a shunt.
  • Fiat punto ride quality 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Makes me stressed and tired after the daily commute. My previous car was MK4 1998 Fiesta Zetec which in comparison felt like a mini Jaguar in it's composure and nimbleness. Is there any quick fix which may improve things before I part ex in desperation for a 306 or Xsara or Mondeo? The car has 165/70R14 tyres, I thought of obtaining 13 inch wheels and 165/80 or 155/80 tyres to help but not sure if it would make that much difference.
  • Which Car???? 20 May 2005 (Forum)
I was thinking of a 206 or a Clio but both of these are being relaunched and I tend to think I'd be better waiting for the new ones if those are the ones I pick. Alternatviely I might be able to go to a Mini, a base level Megane and a base level Golf. The otehr reason for needing a bigger car is the town imleage iwll involve lugging about vast amounts of rugby kit. As long as the seats go down I think I'll be ok but the club used to have a huge mitsubishi truck for this purpose.
  • Value of Old Escort 16 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi, A good friend of mine is changing his car on Saturday. He is changing from a '94M 30k mile (yes thirty!) 1.6 Escort Mistral to a two year old Mini ONE. He has been offered £200 token part-ex for his Escort as part of the deal, however i can't help thinking that this is a woefully low offer, and the dealer doesn't really want the car anyway.
  • A convoy of BMW 1 Series 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
There were six or seven 1 Series (all with the local dealer's logo on the doors/bonnet/boot), first time I'd seen them in the metal, plus a Mini Convertible or two and something else too far back for me to see. They stayed on the road for about 10 miles, then pulled into a layby to spin around for the return journey back towards the town.
  • honda service price variations. 28 Feb 2004 (Forum)
When I mentioned 4 yr discount to garage 4..He replied - Ah yes, it will be 4 yrs old next week - ok - £249.95....Plus free MOT and mini-valet! .( All Honda dealers within 15 mile radius.) The reason Garge 3 and 4 were lower was due to the car now being 4 years old - They said - We can give you a level 4 service. Rang back garage 1 and 2, mentioned the car was 4 yrs old / level service - They did not know what I was talking about.
  • Pug 309D Geyser Impressions! 11 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Also, with the filler cap off and the engine running, water & steam gushes up and out the tank on a cyclic basis like a mini geyser! Any ideas what would cause such a massive pressure to build up and open the pressure release of the filler cap? Many thanks in advance for any help.
  • Fiat Single Point Injection 9 Oct 2003 (Forum)
When I come down off the ceiling, and ask what happens if it does not cure the fault - they agree that it would be their problem. Then I get back into my 1987 Mini and give thanks to the good old SU carb.
  • How to get shot of scrap cars 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)

  • White Lines - don't do it! 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Examples: the two-lane sections of an A-road which suddenly become one when the highway gods decide it is in the public interest to cross-hatch one lane with white paint just in case someone dares to overtake; the insane 'dollop of paint' mini-roundabouts which, in one case near me, were removed within a year because everybody was driving over it; another notorious case near me where an A-road was 'pinched' into one lane for a tiny section to slow people down.
  • Which bit is the real 'car' ? 13 Sep 2001 (Forum)
In the world of classic cars it is quite common to come across the statement that a car has been 'rebodied'. New bodyshells are available for Minis, MGB's, for example, and new chassis have long been available for Land-Rovers. My question is, does a rebodied car retain its legal identity as say a 1961 Boggs, number 123AAA, or is it a 2001 Boggs replica on a current plate, subject to current safety regs, emission levels, etc?
  • Why did BMW buy Rover? 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
There will be massive capacity at Cowley for making these cars, as there will be at other BMW plants around the world. The engine for the new Mini was never intended to be built by Rover. Very early on, it was decided that it would be made for BMW by Chrysler, in South America, so BMW was never going to be dependent on Rover facilities for making this vital part of the new Mini.
  • Toyota Auris HSD - My New Car 16 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It's been up and down the motorway a couple of times and is very pleasant to drive. The thing is, I would say I've given it a good thrashing (I so loved my mini...) but I haven't because I seem to have become obsessed with improving the average fuel consumption so I am driving much more carefully. I don't think anyone who has been in my car would recognise me as the driver if they experienced a blindfold chauffeuring exoerience.
  • Car comfort - no SUVs 4 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I know what's 'cool' is subjective, but it is certainly a consideration here - my friends own electric mini's, Golfs, a JCW, so I'm keen for the car to fit in!  Thoughts much appreciated!
  • Honda Civic 2009 - Wheel alignment (tracking) - am I going mad? 27 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hi guys Been working on my Honda Civic that I’ve just bought (mini-project car). Had the front-wheel tracking fixed today - one of the settings was apparently 8mm before they fixed it. (I guess it was the toe, which is meant to be between zero and 2mm or something).
  • vw up the basic model - clutch renewal 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Hi I've only just joined but I would appreciate any comments on the following I bought a preregistered vw takeup in 2014 and although I don't do many miles each year (4550) since new I am aware of the clutch and gear selection problems These are only just affecting my up and I am now considering changing the clutch when I doe a google search for a up clutch kit I have a choice of several different manufactures with a wide difference in price Can anybody advise me which  is the best one to fit I  think the underlying problem iis that volkswagen built the up to a low cost specification and as VAG already manufacture the MINI did not want to in  direct competition and pitched the cost lower  with the result that many of the parts were purchased for the lowest price and have resulted in the problems that early model up owners have .This has now been resolved with the introduction of the new Tsi up models I  like the UP and would like to resolve these problems with better items replacing the original rubbish I don't think that a VW approved garage would like to do the work so I will get a local mechanic to change the clutch but which one should I ask them to fit  I've changed many clutches in the past normally out in the street using a pair of ramps and a screwdriver to centralise the spline but that was in the 1970's and 80's Any comments would be gratefully received smiffyuk
  • Vauxhall Corsa 04 plate - Vauxhall ECU installation - a legendary challenge? 16 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Background to this seeming mini-epic is that my daughter has a little 1 litre, 04 plate, 52000 mile Corsa that she's kept in lovely condition. Just been for an MOT and its failed on a lit SRS/Airbag warning light. Couple of other little easily sorted niggles but we were told we'd need a proper specialist to sort the warning light.
