Land Rover Range Rover 'Classic' (1970 - 1995) - 88 3.5 cutting out 30 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I have a 1988 EFI 3.5 Range Rover, which has developed the sort of fault that drives one to drink (well, I can't drive the car so I might as well) It starts well from cold, and runs fine. When hot tho' it doesn't want to know. Leave it 15 minutes and it will start again instantly. I've changed the ECU for a spare and the symptoms are unchanged. I suspect the answer is quite simple - once one knows what it is. -
Mazda 6 Sport 2.2 Diesel - Mazda 6 Sport Engine Failure 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
At first I was a bit unsure about sending my car to Ireland, but I could not find any one else who was willing to take the engine repair Job on, so I was basing my decision on there reviews. I just got ther car back last week and its running great, so I am well plaesed with work. The guy I was dealing with is called Colin Hagan and he is very easy to deal with. (link deleted) -

Ford Focus Saloon - Limp Mode at 3k Revs - Focus 1.6 TDCI 21 May 2019 (Forum)
I fully expect the DPF to be near the end of its life but there's no signs of diesel being dumped into the sump which has happened in the past when it failed to regen. That was solved by a garage running a clean on it a while back. Are there any other potential causes for this apart from the DPF? This is the only code it's showing but I've read it could be fuel filter (not likely as replaced last year), injectors, wastegates, hoses etc? -
Ford Focus 2001 - Leak on Power Steering Hose 4 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hi, Further to my previous post I've determined that I've got a leak on the pressure sensor attached to the power steering hose that runs from the pump to the rack. Here's a photo of the part (Ford Focus part number 1098977). http://www.piesefordtransitconnect.ro/foto/foto/1498665945.jpg And here's some photos of my leaking pressure sensor. -
Mazda CX-5 - Petrol or Diesel for city & occasional long haul 29 Jan 2019 (Forum)
But we're having sudden second thoughts about the diesel. We're not heavy drivers: there's a daily school run and 20-60 minute weekend drive most of the time. But we holiday in the UK about 3 times a year - visiting relatives mostly - which is 200-300 miles each time. At a guess we do maybe 7-8k per year. Although we live in a city, it's very hilly. -
BMW 3 Series Skoda Octavia - My next car...but your opinions/help welcome! 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
My thoughts are as follows: Bmw - the car my heart wants more with better quality interior and driving experience but my concerns are the possibly underpowered engine, boot space and possible running costs as I’ve never owned a bmw before and this does worry me. The ones I’m looking at are around 60k on the clock. Skoda - the sensible option as it ticks nearly all the boxes but interior will be a downgrade on my current car let alone a bmw...and should I buy one when I could get the entry level 3 series for the same money? -
Moving to rural Wales and need a new vehicle... 3 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I have family in Norfolk/Suffolk and so will be making the trip home 3 - 4 times a year. - Is reasonably economical to run. - Will cost around the £7-8k mark. I've already done a bit of reading about, and probably the most important thing I've learnt so far is that a set of winter tyres will serve you much better in poor weather than a 4x4 with normal tyres. -
Lotus Esprit - Entertaining restoration videos 23 Dec 2018 (Forum)
He has videos for other vehicles restorations also but it was the Esprit that initially landed me on his page. This is not just the usual run of the mill youtube fare, but a series of highly professional, visually stunning videos providing a detailed, step by step explanation of the guys restoration approach and experiences featuring extensive use of close up, stop/go time elapse photography sequences. -
Volkswagen Golf TDI - HELP!Cabin temperature & Bottom Radiator Hose 19 Nov 2018 (Forum)
But still the bottom hose and radiator are stone cold, whilst the top pipe is boiling and the reservoir steaming when opened. We have run the car to try and remove all of the air from the system and get it nice and hot so the thermostat is open and water flowing. But after the stat opened and the fans cut in, the cabin went cold and still, the bottom pipe is freezing and the top pipe burning. -
Peugeot 106 , 1987 , 1.1 petrol - 106 nicked 26 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Unbeknownst to them , in the boot, I had all my business stuff (worth £500) and a full tank or petrol £70 and a personalised no. plate (which the dvla wont release for a year if the car isn't found) so, it'll cost me over £1000 to get back up and running I wonder how they nick it, and where they drive it to.. What do you think would be wise for me to do? wait a week... get another 106 or I think my mate Gordon recommended a ldv.. which I could convert to a camper and go looking for work all over the uk , eire and even the EU. -
any - coolant renewal 5 Jul 2018 (Forum)
Have flushed it through several times, no signs of rust or other muck. Have now refilled with 50% de-ionised water and 50% 5 year anti freeze, and during running the car to 'burp' the system (these flat four Scoobies noted for being interesting to bleed) it's noticeable that the electric fans are not working as readily as they did before, they do work still so i haven't dislodged the switch connection, but can only assume the new coolant, or maybe a good flush through, have made the cooling system more efficient, which is just was well as it's only 7.3 litres total, not much for a 2.5 turbo petrol, so it wants to be working well. -
Scenic 1.9dci power loss / light on 2 Jul 2018 (Forum)
It didn't work and nothing has changed from the original write up below: 'The engine loses power intermittently, in conjunction with the yellow glow plug / electrical fault warning light coming on. This can last for between 30 seconds or a few minutes. It can run a 50 mile trip without happening, happen two or three times within 10 miles, or only happen once in a trip. When the light comes on, the car will maintain the speed it is at, but lose any overtaking power and starts to lose speed if travelling uphill. -
Am I bonkers? 16 Jun 2018 (Forum)
My wife uses the Yaris, while I alternate with the other two. Recently my mileage has got a lot less. No more school run, no commute, and as a parish priest the furthest I regularly go is the crem! We use the Logan for camping hols and days out with the dog, so we need something quite large. My question is, do I sell the Logan for something older and more interesting, perhaps with a few more cylinders? -
Ford Fiesta 2001 - Heater Control Valve 19 May 2018 (Forum)
So, I realised I'd made an error. When filling the coolant tank back up, I left the lid off while running it to 'burp' the system. None of the coolant was flowing and the car was overheating very quickly at idle. and I was left stumped. Having talked it through outloud and ingesting some well needed caffeine I realised that with no vacume it wouldn't flow through the system. -
Nissan Qashqai+2 - Finally traded my Tino in 1 May 2018 (Forum)
It’s got the 1.6 CDi Renault start stop engine which Honest John seems to rate. I really wanted an automatic and wasn’t after a diesel but I do enough long runs and will be driving to France this year so the fuel economy will be nice. Had Diesel vans for years so kind of know what to expect with maintenance. 12 month warranty and 2 years free servicing plus got £400 for my Tino which is what I paid for it and it’s only worth £100 now. -
Astra 1.3 diesel - Timing chain rattle 27 Jan 2018 (Forum)
It's a periodic thing - sounds like 1, 2, 3, pause, 1, 2, 3, pause, 1, 2, 3... Does that sound familiar? Car has done 143k miles and is otherwise in good running order. I guess it would cost about £600 or more to get the timing chain replaced (I see it's a beggar of a job for labour). I should have some money coming my way in 5 or 6 months, but until then money is tight. -
Citroen C3 - Downsizing (we think) to a citroen 9 Jan 2018 (Forum)
It's just the two of them 99% of the time as I commute on the train. Would that diesel engine have problems with only being run on short town journies? I must admit the ds3 does look nicer but for me the c3 petrol is the better choice. Sorry for the long post. Adam
