MG TF - space saver wheels 5 May 2021 (Forum)
Problem the TF has different width tyres front(195) and back(215) plus the tyres are directional meaning four spare wheels. Can I have one spare wheel 195 tyre to match the more important front end that can run in either direction, paint it black and add a 50mph sticker to mimic a space saver. Does anyone have any idea of the legalities involved -
Korean cars cheap junk? dont think so 14 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Clarkson routinely rips into them, although he is not the only one. Is a nice interior and trendy badge really more important than reliability? -
The possible uptake of British Cars - Brexit 16 Dec 2020 (Forum)
With talks still stalling and eventually we decide to pull the plug , maybe we need to take a look at what manufactures in the UK are planning in the event of a no deal. With price rises on cars imported from Europe Nissan may decide to ramp up production at Sunderland to take the place of Renault cars from France. And Toyota are well placed with production at Burnaston likely to be ramped up in the event of a no deal. -
Jeep Cherokee (1993 - 2001) - 1997 Immobiliser Problem 7 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I have re-programmed the fob, changed the batteries, disconnected the car battery, tried the main dealer, tried auto electrics company, all to no avail. I would be happy to have the system removed but am informed the system was fitted when it was imported and is an integral part of the wiring system and impossible to take off. I had even done the honourable thing and had it converted to LPG. Any ideas or suggestions how to get me back on the road would be greatly appreciated Subject Line corrected to put make before model - PU -
Lexus IS220D - May I have your views please 29 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Mot Til July 21 but no service history apart from a string of passes at MOT time. Does this engine have a cam chain ? And will it be free of the DPF? And important to me what’s the ride like on the 45 profile tyres ? Apart from new pads front and back don’t think much has been done for four years apart from the MOT. Most grateful for your views but would need to dispense with my beloved 2003 Audi A4 1.9 Tdi which has no aircon but a full mot , which is worthless. -
VW Golf TSI MK7 - Brake disc dirt protector 28 Jul 2020 (Forum)
After hearing a rattling noise coming from my front wheel, I took the wheel off and found the metal plate that sits behind brake disc had come loose. I removed the part and even though some say that it’s not important, it has to be there for a reason I would assume. I have received several quotes on who can fix my car and all are over £300. I feel the description I’ve given is easily understandable and it’s unlikely to be confused with a different part. -
any - ?? Seven seats + petrol + automatic, under £12,000 28 Jun 2020 (Forum)
(I am not bothering to consider the Zafira.) Otherwise it's only a Mitsubishi Grandis which is rather old, or indeed an imported Honda, like an Odyssey (which drives very well.) She wants something roomy but not enormous, ie. not a Previa/Estima or similar. Parking sensors/camera are a must! Any thoughts advice or warnings?? -
VW Polo 2018 - When to replace tyres 5 Jul 2019 (Forum)
So, I'm thinking of doing 10,000 more miles by which time the rear should be down to 3.5 mm, and the front about 2.5 mm, and replacing all four corners. In my experience the rear are the more important. I'm a pretty sedate driver, although that does not account for any other muppet on the road. Thoughts? -
Hyundai and others - Diesel engine 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
At the moment looking at Hyundai ix20 and i30. Any issues with those diesels. I consider good between gear acceleration an important safety factor. I have searched the forum but would appreciate current thoughts. -
Any - Anti freeze 15 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Ford specify a particular type for use in their cooling systems; presumably other manufacturers do the same. How much importance should one attach to those recommendations? How different is any one anti freeze from another? Might a dealer refuse to honour a warranty claim which is unrelated to the cooling system, simply because the owner had used supermarket anti-freeze rather than seeking out the proper stuff and paying through the nose for it? -
Used car for family - £7-8k budget 5 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I had my Ford Focus written off this week and need to buy a car which is going to be used mostly for school runs with our two kids within London, and the occasional trip further afield (we probably average 9000 miles a year). Finding something which is cheap to run is important and my wife is keen to get an suv so she has a better view of the road - she has been talking about a Nissan Qashquai. We have a budget of £7k although we might be able to stretch to 8K if it would make a big difference. -
Mercedes-Benz Vito - MOT in Miles - Odometer in KM and does not tally? 9 Dec 2016 (Forum)
The vehicle is advertised as 67,500 miles but when I look on the MOT History gov.uk site it is listed as 103,000 miles? I queried this with the dealer and he explained that odometer is reading 103,000 KM (it is an import) and if you convert 103,000km to Miles = 67,500. BUT the official MOT (still valid) shows 103,000 miles. Cock-up at the MOT station? MOT system unable to cope with KM? Can this be fixed at the next MOT due 5th Feb 2017? -
Ford Fiesta SPORT TDCI (panel van type) - Cant get an valuation for car online?? 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I've tried it on about 4 different ones. On the FAQ for why an valuation might not of come back it said it might be imported. This is worrying me a little bit, What do you guys think? Thanks! -
US consumer reports - Best and worse cars in USA 8 Oct 2016 (Forum)
German cars feature too in particular Audi and to a lesser extent BMW but very few Mercedes make the grade. No mention of French cars as they are not imported as possibly they won't stand up to the lemon laws, and one Italian small car the Fiat 500 which is considered to have poor reliability. Tyre choice is interesting with Michielin taking all the awards. -

Ford escort Tokyo SSS - Buying a very rare car 26 Feb 2015 (Forum)
It's a 1974 and has had an engine replaced in 96 according to the log book. It's left hand drive and was imported in 2000 from Sweden. It's got a few rust spots but nothing that needs welding and the paintwork is cracked and faded and interior is a mess. I have heard these are making £45k plus so there is room for profit but is there any thing I should look out for. -
Volkswagen Golf V - Teves Mk60 ABS/ESP 9 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I live in Norway and this takes place in Norway. Searcing the web I can not find similar issues in Norway. The dealer, and the Norwegian importer, both tells med that i will have to pay 8-9000 NOK, about £800 for this. Before doing that I would very much appreciate any respons as to how this has been handled in other countries than UK, if anyone have this knowledge. -
Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 MPV (1994 - 1998) - Branded unsafe for out of town use 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The Kendal hearing was told the vehicle was designed for inner-city use and not motorways. If this is really true how did this vehicle get imported and released for use? I was not aware that there are or could be rules to say that vehicles are urban use only. Common sense sugests that going up a motorway in a G-Whiz or similar small/slow vehicle might not be too clever but it isn't illegal. -
Mazda MX5 - Texalarm Removal 13 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi, some words of advice from the experts please. We have a Mazda MX5 Japanese import which has a Texalarm ATX16 alarm/immobiliser fitted. It is an aftermarket item rather than an original fitment judging by the wiring Question is how do I remove it from the car? If the device is likely to render the car unusable when it feels like it we would prefer not to have it. -
A low budget gem required 14 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Obviously like other forum members I am well versed in the 'quality of vehicle at this price band' advice, and at the moment he is looking at Japanese petrol hatchbacks. Anything a bit left-field is welcome; he is well over 6ft too so room is important. Insurance is also a big consideration due to postcode and only holding a licence for 2 years.
