• Suzuki Vitara - One forum favourite replaced by another 12 Oct 2023 (Forum)
  It’s never actually failed to get us home but it’s proved to be an expensive second car to run. The latest bill was last week for a service, MOT and replacement of a badly rusting rear suspension member. £560, Jeez. But needed the suspension to get through the MOT so no option. This brought its four routine services and repair costs to about £2.6k in four years and only 14k miles.

   Who would I claim against ? I don't want to use my insurance as it will just cost me in the long run.   Thanks for any help.

  When I start the ignition the engine turns over and seems to catch, but cuts out straight away. It is also giving messages about the engine overheating, but the engine is running for literally seconds, so I don't think this is actually the case. The first warning is about the AC being turned off due to high engine temperature and the second warning, which shows up after sitting with the ignition at position 2 for a few minutes, is one about the engine overheating while idle (but the engine isn’t idling, because it’s already cut out by that point...).

  An additional consideration was  the cam belt/chain, as replacement costs can be expensive & vary considerably. As far as l know the Citroen has a belt, which runs in oil & has had some issues. The Stepway is chain driven however, is this engine reliable?  Thoughts?

  hi question regarding a 2004 Toyota Yaris T SPIRIT D4D Turbo Diesel idling issue when first starting the car  if i take the air pipe off egr valve the car idles correctly and revs normal ,if i  reconnect it the problem comes back if i take the pipe off the throttle valve in the video  the car revs normal, the cars done 37000 genuine  miles i have cleaned the Egr nothing of concern it was ok ,i cleaned the mass airflow with proper cleaner no change, is there  anything else i can check , air filter all ok , the car when warm runs and ticks over as normal what could be causing this strange problem will an egr valve cause the throttle control valve to operate without touching the throttle in the car .??????????????please see video regarding the problem video link  see problem    http://tinypic.com/r/103syt1/8 anyone know what could be causeing this problem

  Hi The last 4 years i have run my Civic Tourer off Summer and Winter tyres. I have 16s for winder and 17s summer. After the first year with this car in winter I discovered I would need a winter tyre as it was basically a brick with the summers.

  I was sorry to give it back and could easily live with this day to day  Obviously it is a small car but as a runabout, it does seem to negate any argument to go electric, given its price, competence and running costs as a city car. Recommended!

    Tempted to get another vehicle if this is going to be an unreliable car situation for me as run an emergency pets to vets service and breaking down with battery problems is not an option.  Any thoughts advice will be helpful  and  if anyone wants to recommend a reliable car Feel free ??

  I’m running a new Grandland for 3/4 weeks - review to follow, if anyone’s interested - and the one thing that’s really impressed are the active LED’s. Switch the lights to Auto, and leave them alone. There are 84 individual LED’s in each headlight unit, so as speed starts to exceed c30mph they’ll look to use main beam where possible.

  Currently a named driver on a toyota yaris 2012 model which i love driving as i fill up and it lasts me a week & its cheap to run. Hardly ever had problems. I only drive locally. Ive read on forums here that people recommend mainly toyota or honda civic for that price. Ive seen kia and hyundai i30 also but i personally would prefer a toyota or honda.

  It is hoped the scheme will encourage more people to walk and cycle both along and across this busy road" The above is an extract from local authority proposals for a major locale route. It reduces the number of lanes each way by one, to create 2 -way cycle lanes from the former running lanes.  In what alternative universe will this help congestion? The proposers of this scheme have dedicated parking places in the town centre for their convenience, while the poor mugs who fund their salaries through council and road tax are told to walk or cycle.

  1 - On petrol 18.3 us mpg - (22.43 uk mpg)   2-  On E85 13.5 us mpg - ( 16.33 uk mpg)   26.5 % higher fuel consumption using E85 CO2 emissions calculated at:- On petrol 706.5 lbs of CO2 emitted On E85 703 lbs of CO2 emitted - 0.5% less than the petrol test run. https://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/e85-vs-gasoline-comparison-test.html So my question is:- As the environmental advantage from this test on 85% ethanol was minimal/marginal, what environmental advantage is likely using the recently introduced E10 10% ethanol fuel in the UK?
• Mazda 3 - Faulty o2 sensor - or something else? 18 Jun 2021 (Forum)
  Around 2 months ago I got the dreaded Engine Management Light. Fault code came back as o2 sensor, running lean.  The mechanic cleared the code and didnt do any work. I used Wynns lambda cleaner on two tanks and since then the problem has been intermittent. Overall in 2 months, I've had the warning light 5 times, and each time the exact same scenario has been at play.

  We have PCP expiring in the autumn and a re keen to replace with a new car so whilst we have a little time am keen not to leave it until the last minute.   In these times of covid we don't want to spend days running around dealerships so hope someone here can offer some suggestions of alternative makes and models we should consider which will give us the increased space we seek whilst keeping the price point around the £30,000 mark.

  Hi All, i have been looking for a used car with a budget of 3.5k for a while now, with nothing much popping up near to me (TN2 post code). Looking for a petrol manual for local school runs mainly. I have been reading posts here and suggestions. Yarises are rare, Fiestas with the 1.25 engine not many. Mazda2s even rarer. Fabia seems to have mixed reviews - probably depends on what one is comparing them against.

  Not noticed this before, Drove OK and started OK the next (this) morning, but when I stopped it to go to the cash machine it wouldn’t restart. Might be coincidence, but its been running OK since I cleaned the contacts. OTOH it could be the pricy petrol has more detergent in it and has stirred up muck, blocking things. I doubt it was driven long enough after refill to foul plugs, but maybe long enough to empty the float chamber and fuel filter.

  It feels strange to me that there can be a situation where the car has high enough voltage to start but not high enough to run a little bulb, but that's the only conclusion I can come to. Has anyone got a more intelligent guess?
• Ford Fiesta - Door won't open from outside 26 Dec 2020 (Forum)
  Ford on Twitter, say they are unaware, like the agent. Perhaps it's  case of 'well they would say that, wouldn't they ?' The car runs so well, but I am losing confidence in it. At least the cover for the fuses has not fallen off lately, thanks to Blu-Tack.  Wonder if anyone else has experienced this ?

  looking for some collective wisdom from everyone. Car has been running perfectly until Wednesday evening when I started hearing and loud rattling noise cooing from the rear of the car (2015 Nissan quashqai 1.6 dci xtronic) for 2 days I was looking for the source of this noise looking under the car checking the exhaust, heat shield any plastic trim and couldn't find the noise.
