  • Ford galaxy 1.9tdi mk2 - Ford galaxy goes into limp mode @2500rpm 31 Mar 2014 (Forum)
To all those budding engineers out there I want to share my experience with you :- I set off from work to travel home 205 miles in my trusty galaxy mk2 and noticed I had no power and at 2500rpm around 65mph the car was flat (no power) I couldn't overtake or build up speed so I pulled into the layby I happen to own a cheap £16 diagnostic reader that I also use on my audi a4 it gave me the code 17954 under boosting , upon googling the code it relates to the waste gate not operating or mass air flow sensor fail . Over the weekend I pull the vacuum hose off the waste gate and noticed a split in the hose very small mind but chopped out the bad bit and refitted hose, I erased the codes turned on ignition checked for further codes nothing came up the car now runs right as rain .
  • Ford galaxy 1.8 tdci 125 - EGR 25 Jan 2020 (Forum)
How is it that when some 1.8 TDCI EGR valves are blanked of the engine management light come's on, ( with or with out a 10mm hole in the plate ) Question 2 how does the system know, i can not see any sensors on the EGR except for the intake pressure sensor but i believe it is for Turbo pressure so it can open or close the Turbo waste gate.????
  • MAZDA 3 TS2 AUTO '57 plate - Starter does NOT ALWAYS turn engine 23 Apr 2013 (Forum)
First I thought it a solenoid fault, so the starter motor with solenoid were replaced. But this intermittent fault is still there. Could it be the ignition key/lock or the gating for the automatic selector lever?   Or something else? JohnB24 (or m****)
  • New Range Rover Sport spotted 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Looked like a normal Range Rover from behind, was only when I got closer that realised rear tail lights were wrong, and Range Rover was written across the base of the rear tail gate in large script. Front was also far more rakish than normal. Anyone else spot this?
  • Identify this Car Please? 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Now I know this could be embarrassing, so I am quite prepared to accept answers which begin with 'I didn't see it myself but....' or 'a mate has informed me' ;) But, someone has asked me what car the captain (Conrad Gates - the suspiciously Beckham'like character) was driving when he pulled into the club car park. I didn't see it, but I'd like to be able to tell them authoritively. Anyone got an answer for me .... please?
  • Ford Fiesta 1.4 2002 - New Serpentine Belt Now Fiesta Will Not Start 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Hi all   My serpentine belt failed partially, (it did not snap completely but began to shred) and as i was only 1 mile from home i carried on driving. I fitted the new Gates belt(and also replaced the power steering belt with a Gates belt ). When i came to start the car it felt like the battery was dead. It churned slowly and then died. Jump started it, went for a 20 minute drive to charge battery.
  • Corsa 1.3 CDTi Life 2004 - Corsa 1.3CDTI low power, EML/emission lights on 24 Aug 2014 (Forum)
They said that the vanes were probably sticking, however I have been under the car and looked at the turbo and it appears to have a waste gate not variable vanes (as you would expect with the 75hp engine). The waste gate actuator moves when levered with a screwdriver and the pressure pipe looks intact.  Am I right in thinking that the turbo boost pressure is measured by the MAP sensor?
  • The dim pedestrians 5 Feb 2007 (Forum)
So I pulled in hard to the left leaving the nearside rear corner of the car just inside the gate with the left indicator on, unhitched the trailer and wheeled it across the yard, jumped back in the car and selected reverse. Before I'd got the handbrake off the reverse sensors bleeped hysterically.
  • Dover to Weston-super Mare 11 Jan 2016 (Forum)
We need to travel from Dover (to be more accurate, Gate services on the A2 as we are overnighting at the Travelodge after arriving on a late ferry) to Weston-super-Mare on 30th December. Given our experience at the end of October, I'm thinking it might make sense to avoid the M25.
  • Ford Mondeo Tailgate 28 Jan 2006 (Forum)

  • Removing cresote from van paintwork? 21 May 2005 (Forum)
My mate has managed to scrap the works van against a farm gate, which has left big black streaks of cresote and black paint on the vans white paint. Does anyone here have any ideas as to what he can use to remove this cresote mix off without taking the vans paint off as well?
  • peugeot 306 - single electric cooling fan 16 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have a V reg Peugeot 306 LX and have been told i need a new cooling fan motor, however being unable to strip it myself i am not sure what sort i will need. I have narrowed it down to one in a plastic surround which i think is either an ecia or gate manufacturer. It has been to the garage and there is no make or manufacturer on it. Is there any way to distinguish which make it is? Thanks in advance!
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.8 tdci loosing power 18 Feb 2009 (Forum)
It is accompanied by lots of smoke and if I try and accelerate a twittering noise similar to the waste gates you hear on rally cars (at least that?s what I think it is). This lasts for a 10-15 seconds and then disappears. Any ideas?
  • Max car width to fit driveway 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
At somepoint may need to purchase another car as swmbo has now passed test. Driveway down to garage pas gates has a max width of 206cm / 81 inches / 6.75 ft, which widens out to 220 cm / 86cm / 7.17ft What would be the max width of car that would fit down the driveway without damaging the car and allow the drivers door to be opened enough for the driver to get out?
  • Unusal road names 18 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Near to where I live there is a Sparepenny Lane. The origins of this were by using this road horse and carts saved paying a penny at a toll gate. Labour-in-Vain Road is another nearby, but I have never been able to find it's origins. Do you know of any other interesting examples? -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to add to the thread.
  • Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - 2002 2.0 hdi Turbo boost coming in late 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
We have had the car on diognostics and it came up turbo preasure sensor so we changed it out. Still no joy. We then stripped the car down and adusted the waste gate on the turbo ( the car had a new turbo fitted by pug in france and the gate was at it lowest point so we adusted it by about 10 mm to the line on the threads where we could see it had been previously) We ran the car and the inter cooler pipe preasurised so we thought we had cured it.
  • Wasting money again 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The point is, hardly any pedestrians use this road...if you see someone walking along it you throw a party....What a waste of coucil tac when you need a FWD to use the carriageway. Another sensible thing...not. The cemetery gates are open all week and cars can go in as they please, plenty of room....Not Sundays....pedestrians can get in but not cars. This means that, as all the popular visiting days, Mothers day, Fathers day, Easter landon Sundays, there are no parking facilities and cars then block the narrow road and park on the wide grass verge ( shortly to become narrower ) sinking into the ground and having to pay to be towed off......brilliant idea, and all for the sake of leaving one gate open.
