  • Classic car insurance for shows, track days, wedding and hire (Article)
It will depend on what vehicle you have, how much it is worth, it’s performance, where it’s based, and how much experience you have of driving. Premiums can start from a few hundred pounds and increase from there. Which ever insurer you’re with, make sure it includes liability cover, breakdown and legal expenses as standard.
  • How to buy a used camper van (Article)
If the dealer tries this, it’s because they want rid of a van they are finding hard to sell. Take a test drive that lasts around half an hour and drive on the type of roads you will normally use. An honest dealer will be happy to do this. If any faults show up during the test drive, ask about how they will be fixed.
  • Used Van Buying Guide: Toyota Hilux 2004-2015 16 Jun 2025 (News)
.  A tough machine then, which was offered in single, extra and double cab specifications, all UK Hilux coming with selectable four-wheel drive as standard. That dependable reputation does come at the expense of some civility, the Hilux not as sharp to drive as its rivals, with a firm ride when unladen, while the engine line-up doesn’t have the easy performance of some - needing revving hard to produce their best.

  • Review: Nextbase 412GW dash cam (productReview)
start=109" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""> This can be a bit sensitive when driving on a rough road, but the function can be disabled or its sensitivity reduced. There is also an emergency button for saving important clips, but it would be easier to use when driving if it clicked reassuringly.
  • Review: Roadhawk HD-2 dash camera (productReview)
Like most dash cameras, the HD-2 starts up when the ignition is turned on and records automatically, though since there is no screen it has an audio message and LED to let the driver know it has started up, and another when it finds GPS reception. Aside from that, you can forget about it and get on with driving – the only other thing to think about is the E button for saving interesting or important clips. Image quality is very good, even in poor light conditions such as when driving directly towards the sun.

  • Top 10: Car-related “movers and shakers” from Amazon (Article)
They attach to car door mirrors and give a wider field of view, which is handy if you have something on tow but you don’t want to have mirror extenders. Equally, they’re useful in everyday driving, helping to reduce blind spots and providing a nice clear picture of the kerb when parking. They’re very cheap and can give an extra confidence boost when learning to drive or if you find parking tricky.
  • Review: Scalextric Legends Rusty Rides - Volkswagen Beetle and T1b Camper (productReview)
The rusty and worn rat look works better on the white and light blue paintwork, although we're still a little confused as to why it's left-hand drive when the Beetle is a right-hand drive. But maybe we've been looking at them too much... Both come with Magnatraction magnetic system, so it's easy to build up a fair bit of speed with both without them losing traction in corners, although as you'd expect it's the camper van which is the first to slide around, the quicker you go.
  • TOWING LAWS: What is the new tachograph law about towing?  (FAQs)
Since 1-5-06 all new vehickes registered since that date towing for hire or reward with a gross train weight of 3,500 kg are required to have a tamper-proof digital tachograph which uses a credit card-type record to monitor driving hours and journey times. Additionally all vehicles first registered from 1996 not previously fitted with a tachograph, but now used for towing for hire or reward with a gross train weight of 3,500 kg are also required to be fitted with a digital tachograph.
  • Used Pick-Up Buying Guide: Nissan Navara 2005-2016 16 Jun 2025 (News)
All Navaras come with Nissan’s All-Mode electronic four-wheel drive. Drive choices include 4x4 high and low range models as well as a two-wheel drive choice. Off-road it’s unlikely you’ll ever find it lacking in ability, though if it’ll be spending most of its time in the muck then it’ll get further if you fit some proper off-road tyres.        Maintenance   In 2017 Nissan admitted that there was a chassis rust issue with the Navara D40 - built between 2005 to 2008. The issue concerns corrosion on the chassis and can result in the vehicle's underpinnings cracking and eventually breaking the vehicle in two if left untreated.
  • Review: Volkswagen T2 Danbury Camper (Article)
The pedals still hinge from the floor, the handbrake remains a pull-and-twist umbrella job, and the driving position is still comfortably bus like, although the original, rather nice instrument pod has been replaced by a slightly fussy ‘what the butler saw’ arrangement of dials and warning lights.
  • Top 10: Gifts under £15 (Article)
Porter was the script editor for Clarkson’s Top Gear and, among other things, runs Sniff Petrol — a satirical motoring website. For example, “If you think that motoring journalism is simply about driving around in other people’s cars and then going back to the hotel for a wine and a big dinner and maybe a dump and then some more wine and perhaps a whiskey or two, I’m afraid you are not completely correct.”
  • Review: Sony PlayStation 4 Pro games console (productReview)
width=500&height=333.33333333333337" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/64adfd692a2843dd8ab7eb926935fc86" /> Currently the PS4 Pro retails at £350 in the UK without any games. That’s compared to £250 for a 500GB PS4 Slim, although the Pro comes with a 1TB hard drive as standard – a Slim with 1TB is £300. The Xbox One X costs £430. Thankfully, Sony has made it relatively easy to use a third party hard drive, lowering the cost of adding memory – you’ll be surprised how few games it takes to eat up even a 1TB hard drive.
  • Top 10: Essential products for new drivers or learners (Article)
Ring Automotive tyre pressure and depth gauge - £15 If you have an older car then there’s every chance the tyres will be worn. If the tread depth or pressure gets too low then driving gets very dangerous. Additionally, driving with a defective tyre often means three penalty points, which is a big deal for new drivers in their probationary period. Keeping an eye on pressures and tread depth is fairly easy though – this device from Ring Automotive does both very clearly, plus it’s small, affordable and comes in a neat little case for storage in the boot or glove compartment.
  • Review: Bridgestone Potenza Sport (productReview)
The front end grip is excellent too, which gives you plenty of confidence through corners. Given the BMW we're using is rear-wheel drive, this is the real test for the Potenza Sport tyres. And they pass with flying colours. Even with a heavy right foot out of a low corner, there's no hint of the rear of the car becomin g unsettled with great traction and grip.
  • Review: Nextbase 612GW dash cam (productReview)
Nextbase doesn’t include one but recommends that you need a 64GB card as a minimum and that will be filled within only a few hours of driving so you’ll need to act swiftly or save clips that you might need later before they get wiped. It needs to be a U3 class card too. Saving those clips is made relatively easy by the fact that you can review everything on the three-inch screen, although to see it in proper HD you will need to download it.
  • Review: Piaggio MP3 500 Sport (productReview)
That is, as long as they steer two front wheels and conform to some other specific regulations. (Though, weirdly, to drive something like a Morgan 3-wheeler, you now have to pass a full motorcycle test.) The huge advantage of this is that car drivers, many with a lifetime’s driving experience, no longer have to go through the kerfuffle of Compulsory Basic Training, Direct Access and everything else they need to ride a motorcycle of more than 50cc.
