Anti-freeze 31 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Just tried to scape the ice off my car windscreen.......hopeless then got my old halfords spray that your just spray on it "melts" the ice away, brilliant but its run out. Me being tight was wondering if just some anti freeze (coolant) with water would have the same affect., and put that in the spray dispenser. Don't want to mess about will boiling hot water from a kettle either before someone suggests it. -
Rubber hoses: checking tips 11 Oct 2002 (Forum)
* Hose condition -- rubber hoses soften with age. Should the hoses be firm to the touch. * Leaks -- coolant hoses etc. will show leaks. But what about air pipes? Someone suggested listening with a plastic tube. * Any other tips? Mike -
Audi 80 leaks 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Despite having been checked over by my local Audi dealership (who are pretty much useless) I have a recurring problem with the interior misting up. I have kept an eye on the coolant level and have ruled out the possibility of a matrix leak. Anyone got any ideas or know of a specialist who can check this out? Thanks Equilibrium -
Citroen ZX 1.9D - Citroen ZX engine overheating problem 22 Jan 2011 (Forum)
From looking online it sounded like it could be the thermostat, which we removed and tested and sure enough had failed. We replaced it with a new one, bled the coolant system as per the Haynes manual, using a header tank to refill with new coolant until there were no bubbles coming out of any of the bleed valves. Then ran the car at a fast idle until the fan kicked in (a few small bubbles appeared in the header tank). -
Golf Mk2 GTI - Forcibly expelled coolant 24 Jul 2004 (Forum)
The head gasket has been mentioned, but I've heard that there are usually tell-tale signs in terms of the water becoming contaminated etc., whereas the water ejected from the expansion bottle was clear water (I didn't have any coolant at the time). steve-o suggested that it could be an airlock, which makes some sense. As mentioned before, it really only seems to happen when the engine is stopped (or the car is stationary for a while). -
Ford Focus - Hot air blowing from drivers footwell air outlet 31 Jul 2018 (Forum)

Ford Fiesta - Ecboost water reservoir bubbling 29 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I recently purchased a new fiesta (not very latest new model ) with an ecoboost petrol 1.0 100 engine. After returning from a drive in town today I lifted the bonnet and saw that the water in the coolant reservoir was bubbling and the fan was running. After a minute or so the fan stopped and also the bubbling stopped. Is this normal in a turbo engine. I have never had one before. -

VW Golf Mk4 - Temperature Gauge Failure 18 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Last night the temperature gauge on my nine year old Golf failed to register. There was no problem with the coolant level. On the return journey there was the same problem but after about 10 miles the gauge suddenly registered correctly. There is no point in taking the car to a garage with a non existant problem but I wonder what could have happened and am I likely to break down without warning? -
Citroen Xsara - overheating 17 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Today when i got home to my amazement there was a puddle on the passengers side of the car it had coolant in it. The car is a 2001 reg and a clean car. Has anyone got any ideas the engine is running perfect, perhaps its time to lay it to rest. -
VWPassat 130 Tdi AWX - Misfire on pullig away 25 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I have been advised it could be due to the boost solenoid..My main query is, where is this solenoid situated? Is it easy to change? I have changed the injector loom. and also the coolant sensor. This was not a genuine VW part, Could it be down to this being wrong? Any advice appeciated! Dusty... -
Ford granada 2.0 dohc - Head gasket? 14 Nov 2010 (Forum)
just bought an immaculate 1990 granada 2.0 dohc ghia x, with a genuine 48k on clock, all backed up with FSH. So I rather surprised and upset to find white smoke and loss of coolant a week after purchasing. Think it is head gasket. Seems rather low milage for this to go though! Any ideas people. Thanks Darren -
Starting a car in -12c temperature 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
My question is if I started tomorrow after a -12c freeze am I likely to cause damage if any of the coolant has frozen? I am not convinced I have enough anti freeze in to cope with -12c :( -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.8D Heater Problem 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The heater was giving out hot even though the electronic switch was on cold. I bought a second hand coolant valve unit, (The thing with four pipes connected to it with a solenoid fixed on the bulkhead), swapped them over and now its giving off cold air even when the switch is on hot. Presumably they are both faulty or could it be the heat adjuster switch? -

Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Leaking water 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Hi folks, Have pretty bad coolant leak. Haynes manual doesn't really cover or illustrate anything about these cooling system components. The leak is at the metal pipe (piping runs almost directly over the drivers side wishbone and then runs straight on to meet a rubber hose). -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Workshop retribution? 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Six months after complaining about poor quality work during a main dealer sevice I noticed my coolant bottle cap leaking. During rework (unrelated to cooling system) the cap was greased, slowly wrecking the rubber seals. Weekly fluid level checks probably saved a breakdown. Replaced FOC by the service manager but now definatly lost a customer. -
VW Passat - head gasket just done 27 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Just picked up car (99 PD TDi Tiptronic) after head gasket replacement.....(included new cambelt, tensioner, water pump, coolant and oil/filter) Before repair car used to accelerate quite briskly but feels very sluggish post repair. Used to be able to overtake with ease, now I wouldn't be confident to even think about overtaking! -
