Any help is greatly appreciated! :)
  • Vauxhall Omega-B (03) 2.2 DTi (Y22DTH) - Omega-B 2.2 DTi Limp Mode & P1220 Error Code 1 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The MAP sensor was replaced around 1500 miles ago with a Bosch OEM part, so I believe it to be good. Replaced the crankshaft speed sensor with a new Bosch OEM part. Fuel is Shell V-Power (roughly half a tank) This is the relevant measuring block info at idle, before the EML comes on: Desired Injection Start = 4.8 CA Actual Injection Start = 1.1 CA Desired Injection Quantity = 7.4 mg/strk Injection Quantity = 5.7mg/strk Pump Speed = 411 RPM Engine Speed = 824RPM Mass Air Flow Sensor = 512mg/strk I don't have any higher reachable engine speed other than idle, because if I lift the rev's (even gradually) the system goes into limp mode.
  • DS 5 - Smoke from DS DS5 Diesel engine after a short run 16 Jan 2018 (Forum)
However it often gets good long runs at speed, the last being 500 miles over Christmas up to Aberdeen and back. I've always filled it up with Shell V-Power Diesel.   Today I went on a short run of about 10 minutes to the supermarket, and back home again after about half an hour. The engine temperature guage didn't even register any heat on either part of the journey.

  • Skoda Yeti - EA189 Emissions Update - my experience 2 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I cover ~20K miles yearly and tend to favour "branded" fuels (Esso / Shell), with the occasional tank of V-Power Nitro+, in an attempt to keep everything clean / ticking over. I'd assumed the worsening fuel economy was a direct consequence of the increased fuel injected to facilitate frequent active regeneration?
  • Which petrol SUVs are best for towing? 4 Sep 2016 (Ask HJ)

  • Is BMW's new Double Clutch Transmission better than the automatic gearbox? 9 Aug 2012 (Ask HJ)

  • see if I care..... 15 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The local muffler shop made up two new tailpipes, so now we have the right noises coming from the right places. V-8 lovers eat your heart out for that one....a rumble which reaches you right down there where you live....a truly religious experience. Pulled down the Holley 4-bbl carb and blew that out, seems fine.
  • Why are no small city cars available with a decent automatic transmission? 3 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
Don't you think it's about time that the manufacturers produced an autotrans that was suited to small/city cars? It seems crazy to me that Mercedes-Benz,...

  • 2003 1.8l Mondeo Estate, 144k miles - Ford Mondeo Mk3 Hesitates and Stutters during acce 23 Apr 2015 (Forum)
It could also be a partial blockage in the fuel system, if changing the fuel filter disturbed some crud in the pipes. A tank of Premium unleaded (eg. V-Power) should help that, they contain fuel system cleaners. Or put a dose of fuel system cleaner additive through it.. Possibly the engine management system has not adjusted properly to the various changes.
  • V220 - Apalling service at Halfords Redhill 21 Aug 2013 (Forum)
After an hour and 45 minutes of some kid who had no idea what he was doing, (he asked his collegue 6 or 7 times to come and help as he'd 'tried evey coloured wire but it doesn't power on). my girlfriend was told it was done. However she decided to try the TV just to be on the safe side and it didn't work the kid had cut the power supplt to it. After another 30 minutes, it was working again.
  • Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - GTI test drive 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I expected it to feel over-eager and hard work, but the engine was very smooth and tractable. It actually felt less powerful and eager than the Avensis in these low rev tootlings. Sharpness of the brakes took a lot of getting used to. Ride quality far better than expected. Onto the M5's rutted and washboard effect inside lane, aim to potter along at 60 or so and see what sort of economy it was capable of.
  • Celica GT Import - Emissions Failure 2 May 2007 (Forum)
They suggested that as Jap spec cars are designed for 100RON petrol, and the tank was empty, I try refilling with Shell V - Power, give it a good caning on the dual-carriageway, and take it back to be restested, as the engines don't like our 95RON and they don't run as well. I did this, and on re-test it still failed, but this time the Lambda reading was "very good" but the CO was still at 1.1% at fast idle (Limit is 0.3%) I went back to the specialist and they suggested that the catalyst and lambda sensor might both be working sub-optimaly and combining to give the high CO reading.
