  • Toyota Yaris D-4D Testdrive. 10 Mar 2002 (Forum)
In my current car a non turbo 1.8 Escort Diesel I would have needed to change down and it would have run out of puff quite early on. I found it to be well behaved in traffic and a relaxing car to drive. Although my driving is mainly in and around town, I do need a car capable of the long haul to Cornwall on a regular basis. This feels like a much larger car on the road. It was not twitchy and the ride was superb in comparison to the Honda Jazz which amplified virtually every little dimple in the road.
  • Hit and drive off accident A406/A105 - Help 23 Nov 2014 (Forum)
At that point in time, my car catch the rear end left side of the lory. All this in a split of a second or two. In shock, I stop the car but see the lory driving away. I scream to myself "FOCUS, FOCUS". I just know that the crash could been fatal, had I not had quick reactions. I decide to drive after the lory. Catch it because of slow traffic. I tut the horn and tell the driver that he've hit me, asking him to stop.
  • Hideous Insurance Renewal problem 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Also although I told the insurer that our au pair was driving when the claim occurred, when I got the policy doc through yesterday it showed two claims in March this year, one with the au pair driving and one with a slightly different date with me driving.
  • Knights of the Road? 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Impatient, intolerant, uneducated (jn a Highway Code way, before the hey man, that's classist brigade jump in) and too fixated with profit over safety. And, back to my pet hate, if you want to drive something that's easy to keep going, then don't get a job where you drive a lorry!!! They are, by their innate characteristics, hard to keep going! It's no good getting annoyed about it! Get yourself a job where you drive a car or van if you're that bothered.
  • BMW iX3 - traction? 4 Apr 2025 (Forum)
We are in the market for a used EV and it’s down to the iX3 or Mercedes EQC. Generally we prefer the iX3, but it’s rear wheel drive not 4 wheel and we live on a hill, so a bit concerned about traction when it gets to icy winter conditions. Does anyone have experience with this model and could comment? Thanks very much for any help.
  • Dacia Sandero Stepway - Slight movement on sterring wheel 26 Feb 2025 (Forum)

  • Fog and speed restriction signs 5 Feb 2025 (Forum)
I have been issued a NIP for driving 40mph in a 50mph zone. The reason is that a 30mph sign was not visible due to fog, therefore I had no notice or any chance to slow down. This was at 4:30 in the morning in heavy fog (21/22 Jan). If I appeal the ticket I'll have to go to court and argue that I was speeding but the mitigating factor was heavy fog, which doesn't sound too good.
  • Honda Accord 2006 - Is a perishing half-shaft damper an MOT failure? 11 Jun 2024 (Forum)
I was under my vehicle recently and noticed that the driver side half-shaft damper is perishing.  The car drives well, I don't notice anything untoward with it's behaviour (I believe a sign would be vibration?) Does anyone know if small splits of which there are a few (around 5-8mm in length) would be deemed an MOT fail?
  • Peugeot Boxer SWB - MPG for 1995 Peugeot Motorhome 31 May 2024 (Forum)
Registered December 1995. I’m trying to get some figures for MPG. The seller has given me a figure for when he drives “conservatively.” Other than that, I’m finding it tough to find some figures. The engine is 2800cc, Diesel. Can anyone help with the information? Thanks in advance.
  • Mazda 6 Skyactiv Petrol 9 Jan 2024 (Forum)
So started a new thread as I think I've decided on a petrol Mazda 6. I like the reasons SLO76 reccomeded this. Only question is, how does the drive and performance of a naturally aspirated petrol compare to say s turbo charged petrols, or turbo diesels as they are all I've driven for near on twenty years? Also much to recommend between the 143 and 163 bhp versions?
  • Honda ZR-V - Honda ZR-V Sport v Advanced 7 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Looking at either Honda ZR-V Sports or Advanced. Had a test drive with the Advanced, Sports was not available. Knowing the models differ in refinements/gadgets, but both use same engine and transmission.. Anyone know if the Sports has a stiffer ride over the Advanced, dealer says both are the same besides one having more luxury over the other.
  • Merry Christmas to all 25 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Many thanks to all who give their time and advice so freely to assist others. The forum would be nothing without its knowledgeable contributors and readers. I will be driving to London on Christmas day but will enjoy a drink or three on Boxing day. Safe travels for those on the roads. Have a great time over Christmas and best wishes for the New Year. • Skoda Octavia vrS iV - PHEV performance when discharged ? 3 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Hi all, assuming that the performance figures of the Octavia phev are given with both battery and engine at maximum tilt, how is the performance affected if the battery is discharged? Does it drop off to that of the basic 1.4litre engine so my car becomes a sluggish drive ? Thinking of buying one but can't find any data on this. I guess this is true of all PHEVs? Thanks for the help and advice.
  • Ford Focus MK1 - Instrument Panel Dies Help 7 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Whilst driving my instrument panel suddenly dies and the speedo drops to zero and then it suddenly comes back to life only to do the same thing again, also the car seems to lose very slight power when it does it?
  • Mercedes C180 2008 - Intermittent rear indicator failure 15 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I have a Mercedes C180 - 2008. The rear indicators and rear windscreen air-con randomly stop working. Sometimes whilst driving or as soon I start the engine. I turn the engine off, remove the key, leave it for a few seconds, restart the engine and everything works again. Has anyone else come across this problem and know what is the cause/solution?
  • 2035 20 Sep 2023 (Forum)

  • New Vauxhall Astra Electric 22 Jun 2023 (Forum)
First drive in the new £40k Vauxhall Astra Electric hatchback - is it worth the 49% premium compared to its petrol version? (msn.com)   50% more than a petrol model, looks like a car from the front instead of those bland panels where the radiator went.
  • Any - New driver rule 10 May 2023 (Forum)
They were talking about it before the pandemic but this news is from a few weeks ago - https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/new-drivers-under-25-could-face-young-passenger-ban-under-graduated-driving-licence-scheme-12864069 I just passed in Feb but I'm almost 40 so I don't think this applies to me but just wondering...
  • BMW 3 Series - Handbrake light stays on? 16 Feb 2023 (Forum)
My BMW 320d handbrake light stays on even when the handbrake is down. The dashboard says 'braking system drive moderately' with the handbrake sign next to it, the brake pads need doing & it says that on the vehicle status so not sure if the dashboard message has anything to do with that? It did recently have an MOT done with one of the advisories being 'parking brake travel getting high'.
  • BMW - Ending supply of UK police cars 23 Jan 2023 (Forum)
This follows on from fires, one fatal, in cars using the N57 engine.  Apparently, it's the police's fault for driving them wrong! The impatient among us no longer need to keep an eye out for X5s on the motorway.  It's Volvo XC90s and VW Tuaregs from now on. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-cumbria-64283859
