  Hi I have got a 2011 vauxhall insignia cdti (a20dth) engine , when I bought it the sign on dash came up with diesel particulate filter full carry on driving and service vehicle soon , so I thought I could drive it home and like they say drive it like you stole it to clear dpf but it didn't work so I took it to garage for forced regen , he phoned me and said that it had diesel runaway and they checked oil and was about 10 litres of oil and diesel in sump , so he said he didn't want to do it , so I picked it up and it was only running on 3 cylinder and smoking like mad but drove it about 3 mile down road and smoke cleared , thought I would do compression test and number3 cylinder no compression

  The dealer has checked the car and is saying a thermostat hose has split but because this is on the the opposite side of the engine they cannot take the blame. My car was running perfectly prior to having this work done and i have never topped up the coolant in the 3 years owing the car. In fairness to the dealer they are doing the repairs with no cost to me but my question is how likely is it that a thermostat hose would split immediatley after driving out of the dealers, sounds a little suspious to me.

  Hi,   I have a 2018 1.6GT Levorg (48000k miles and Full Dealer History) which I have owned for 3 months and a few weeks into my ownership the car intermittently started to produce an amount (quite a plume on occasions) of blue / grey smoke on start-up which quickly clears. Never smokes starting from cold (overnight) but after a short 5-8 miles run, if left for a hour or so will smoke on start-up.  Car is under warranty but dealer is dismissing the grey / blue smoke (which I believe is probably oil) as condensation. I have a number of video's of the smoke all dismissed by the M dealer.

  I have been given papers by the police for hitting a parked car in a car park. The papers say that I'm looking to be prosecuted for hit and run and dangers driving. The papers were posted through my letterbox. I wasn't aware that I hit a parked car so therefore didn't stop or leave my details. I was at the location at the time and date they police have stated.

  Thinking large estate or possibly an SUV.  I will use if for towing, weekly 30 odd mile drive and the occasional long motorway run. The mpg of a diesel is appealing but everything i look at people warm me off for DPF, EGR, etc. issues. I was looking diesel versions of Subaru Outback, Rav4, Avensis, CRV, V70 2.0. These all have about 80k miles for around 8k.

  Reluctant to sink £500 into a car worth £3,500 that I'm intending to trade in (probably in 2023).  All other aspects on the Golf running well & a recent clean MOT.

  Audi A5 BMW 3 series Mercedes E class Volvo C70 I recognise that with my budget I will get something at least 10 years old, but I have two excellent local garages, one of whom is a Mercedes specialist. I'm not sure about the difference in long term running costs between petrol and diesel as I'm not planning to do more than 5000 miles a year.  Any comments/experiences welcome - as well as any other suggestions. I would prefer a four seater and it has to be an automatic.

    I am doing a restore job on a Ds3 1.6 ehdi bodywork/paint etc and the car has been sat for a few months, just turned it over some days but not driven.   I took it out for a 15min run around the block and white smoke was pouring out the back, checked the coolant and it had gone below the Min mark after I'd filled it to just under the max also it had turned a brownish colour.   Strange thing s the coolant has also returned to the same level after leaving it to cool.

  Its olden but golden, wasn't ready to say goodby to it yet..sob..and won't be able to afford another, and I've just had a very sound repair done on the roof , and just m.o.t'd .It was going to be good for a few more years and has very little corrosion.  I always just wanted to run it into the ground until it couldn't go on, but it looks like this won't be possible now? Are there any circumstances where I would be able to keep the vehicle, or does that cause problems for future insurance.

  The car only has 65000 on the clock and has been serviced all its life by vauxhall  according to the service book. I am currently only getting 28.5mpg on a run and around town and seams sluggish when driving up hills. I have had a new turbo and boost controller fitted that has helped with the power a bit but still not wright and I am at the end of my tether and don't want to waste any more money on just chucking parts at it.
• Volvo V40 cross country - To sell or keep 8 Aug 2021 (Forum)
  My question is, should I sell it now, with 12 months MOT and in good condition. Or should to px it and set up PCP with something used but more reliable and cheaper to run? I fear future bills. I like to see them coming so that I can plan for them. I’m keen on getting a Mini Clubman, but think I’m leading with my head again. There is a 17 plate one with 47000 for sale at the local Mini dealership.
• Ford Escort - Overheating engine 30 Jul 2021 (Forum)
  (1.6 16v Zetec Silver Top engine) Hi. The engine on my car has always run hot since I got it, (unless I keep the heater on).  Although this could be a faulty temperature gauge, you can smell burning when the gauge marker gets into the red and the cooling fan kicks in.

  So wondering whether we should stick with such an iconic car,(already paid for £1500) brave the fuel and running costs or sell it and get and more modern (2010 upwards £2500+) probably boring Japanese car such as a mazda/Toyota with smaller engine (but good enough for motorway)   Sounds like an easy decision but at least for us it seems difficult Thanks

  So he goes i might have clipped the wing mirror but no damage on that either. So i drove off after delivering the item. Would u classed that as hit and run and should i tell the company i work for what happened. This happened in the uk
• Buying a car without V5C 4 May 2021 (Forum)
  How would they buy buying / sourcing cars without the V5C? If this was an independent garage or private seller, I would have run a mile. However, I am intrigued.  Any pros / cons? Am I taking a risk? I do like to see who owned it.....   
• Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0D Lights always on!? 23 Dec 2020 (Forum)
  Just taken delivery of a TS2 spec Mazda 6. I noticed today that dipped headlights are always on when the engine is running or even if the key is in the ignition with the electrics switched on, the only way to switch them off is to select side lights from the stalk. Even though there is an OFF and AUTO option on the stalk the lights cannot be switched off.

  A small parking hit and run on my partners Flame red metallic Captur has opened my eyes to the importance of considering the cost of repairs when choosing a colour. Even with the paint code, there turned out to be four variants of the colour.

  Opened the bonnet and it seemed water was hissing out of a round orange component above the engine if looking Birdseye and was hitting a silver plate (that was partially bent below) then going into the floor and running under the car. Has anyone experienced this before or know what this is?! ?thank you!

  Hi everyone I've owned this car since 2000, except for a few blips I've had a good run and it's been very reliable. Recently I had to leave it with a local garage and the battery drained so they had to jump start it. OK no no problem but now I've found that the alarm has it's gone off and the battery has drained too.
• Chevrolet Aveo/Kalos - Central locking failing 5 Feb 2020 (Forum)
  .), the lock does not disengage/engage. On occasion it will work, but more often than not only after the car has been running for a while. She has also reported that the locking mechanism sounds sluggish, almost as if it's dying (on the occasions it does work), although there appear to be no issues with the main battery.
