  • Do the police have common sense? 27 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Or do they stop every innocent person filling up a 1986 Volvo 360 that, frankly who would want to steal? I mean, at 7:00 on a Monday morning, why would they think a person filling up his Volvo is even remotely suspicious. And they wonder why the public has no confidence in the police.
  • Vauxhall Signum 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Due to comapny car allocation changes I have been offered one of these as a replacement for my Volvo V70 D5 (which is excellent). Any one have any thoughts on this relatively new model from Vauxhall? Other than badge snobbery will I lose out in spec and performance against my Volvo. Thanks in advance for your comments.
  • Volvo C30 - Taking on home based car maintenance 14 Feb 2018 (Forum)
We bought a  three year old Volvo C30 seven years ago, which we are very happy and content with, and after having it serviced by our local garage over the years we decided that it was time the now ten year old car had a proper main Volvo agency birthday service.
  • Volvo C70 MK1 - Changing automatic transmission fluid 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I have acquired a C70 convertible which I'll be using during the spring/summer, (have a Toyota Carina for the other seasons). My question relates to the automatic transmission fluid on the Volvo. The car is very smooth shifting, but there is no history of the fluid ever being changed. The car is nearly 20 years old. A famous American youtuber called Scotty Kilmer has said that changing transmission fluid on an old car when it's never been done before could lead to problems with the transmission shifting properly.
  • Volvo V60 - Rear Suspension. Tyre Wear 5 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The "Health Check" at the 3 year annual Dealer service (23000 miles) Volvo V60 produced a report on the rear near-side tyre (1.8, 3.4, 3.4) , off-side (4.2, 4.1, 4.2). The "Check NSR Suspension" was ticked as "OK"!  Whilst it was in the service department I received a phone call advising me that the tyre was worn and should be replaced.
  • Volvo XC60 D4 AWD - Rear wheel Torque 7 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I had a front wheel slipping problem some time ago when trying to park my caravan on slippy ground. Volvo are a little slow in giving information out. 3 months have gone by with me asking the same question in different ways. Can anybody help? In normal operation modes the maximum torque that will be transmitted to the rear wheels is 5%.

  • Volvo S60 2.4 D5 - Seized idler pulley 22 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Hi there, Recently bought a Volvo S60 with only 40.000 (genuine) miles on the odometer.  Within 5000 miles the idel pulley seized causing fatal damage to the engine. It's a writh off! When I bought the car I was really impressed by the state of the engine, everything in the engine compartment looked brand new.
  • Volvo S40 - car change 2 Dec 2012 (Forum)
My Volvo S40 is now nearly 7 years old, and has covered 75K miles. This year it will need a full brake overhaul and 4 new tyres, estimated cost around £1000. As the car is worth less than £4k, I have to decide whether or not to spend the cash and keep it, or change it.
  • volvo s40 - Tensioner snapped 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
My Volvo S40 (2002) won't start the garage I take it to have said the tensioner has snapped causing damage to the engine and would be £1000's to repair. Just over a month a go the same garage replaced the VVT pulley.
  • Alfa, Volvo, Citroen, Peugeot - I- Spy new cars 27 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have wondered whether Alfa's new Giulietta is a success so far, as I have yet to see one in the flesh. Lots of Mitos but nothing else. Likewise the newer Volvo S60, no sign yet. I did see my first Audi A1 last weekend in my local Waitrose car park, which seemed appropriate somehow. Whereas in France this week I saw the new Peugeot 508 - nice from the front, ungainly from the rear I thought - and the new Citroen C4, which looked quite nice, which in the sector it belongs doesn't seem enough.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 03 2.4 Seized idler pulley 4 Sep 2009 (Forum)
few weeks ago, on the motorway, the engine went completely dead. A inspection at the Volvo garage revealed that the idler pulley had seized causing the V belt to break. The report continues " When this happens the V belt disintegrates wrapping itself around the crankshaft pulley and also enters the cam belt casing.
  • Volvo 340/360 (1976 - 1991) - C reg, 21,000 miles! 'Offers' - I'm intrigued 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Interesting ad came in to the paper last week... published today and I'm half interested in taking a look... Volvo 360 2.0 in gold (so an embarassing colour, which would make it cheaper!) - has done no mileage in eleven years save for an annual run down the road for the MOT to be done. Basically the lady selling it lost her husband that many years ago and has kept the car but never used it - it is being sold as 'immaculate' so I'm intrigued to know what it may need beyond fluid changes straight away?
  • Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - 2006 2.4D - Anti Skid sensor replacement 28 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi, the Anti Skid warning light as been intermittantly coming on on my Volvo. After a couple of visits to the dealer they said the sensor needed replacing, they would order the sensor and arrange a time to fit the sensor. After a delay and pushing by me, the car went back and instead of fitting the sensor as agreed they have uploaded new software to the Anti Skid system.
  • Volvo S40 16v 2.0 - Spark plug thread? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a S reg Volvo S40 16valve 2.0 litre, coming back on the M25 yesterday a spark plug went, sounded like a chinook helicopter in my bonnet! Had the RAC out & the thread has gone, they tried to put a new spark plug in but it just spun around...they advised me to get a new thread cut or a helicoil fitted...I've spent the entire day phoning around & no-one seems to do this....the couple of mechanics that will do it can't for the best part of a week but I need it done asap...one of them suggested to get a kit myself & do it...no idea how easy this would be.
  • Volvo S40 sticky central locking 4 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Morning all, Now the cold mornings are upon us again, I have a recurrence of a problem with my 1998 Volvo S40 - namely that upon unlocking the car, two doors are not unlocking fully. This problem has affected the car for some time and always happens when the ambient temperature is low. It used to affect only one door, which was manageable, but two is becoming a bit of a nuisance.
  • Complete Brake Failure - Volvo 240SE 23 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The wife was about 18 miles from home in her trusty 1993 Volvo 240SE estate when she applied gentle brake pressure as the lorry in front of her was slowing due to traffic on the dual carraigeway. The pedal went to the floor, nothing. Spotting a layby she headed into and using the handbrake stopped 6 feet before the end of the layby.
