  • Renault Captur - Knocking noise 27 May 2020 (Forum)
From the recording you sent in, it sounds to me like the car could be being driven in too high a gear, as it is a diesel it is important to drive within the correct rev range, otherwise the engine and injection pump will try to compensate and create and uneven ride and noise. I will post a link to a video of the noise is anyone could please shed some light on what it could be?
  • Vw polo - VW POLO 2015 tsi gearbox problem help 12 Mar 2020 (Forum)
I’ve had a few opinions and it sounds like he might’ve put the gearbox in incorrectly? I’m not an expert and I’m fully aware I shouldn’t be driving the car as it does need a new gearbox but the cars only done 55k and is 5 years old. Could anyone please give me some advice. Thank you

  • Vauxhall Zafira - Error codes and help 11 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Besides a bit of a judder in 1st gear sometimes when pulling away it drives fine, I’m only using it when I have to and it’s booked in to be investigated by Vauxhall next Monday. I’ve only had it since October and only had to replace an abs sensor so far it’s mot is due end of the month too.
  • 'That Looks Nice' 18 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I guess that it had done quite a bit lower mileage than mine (182k)  and had had a more sheltered life. It seemed to have fewer 'dings'.  It appeared to be an older person driving. And yet, I thought, as I drove mine away, a few dings and all (also an SE but all in black) I've got new tyres, a new windscreen, recently tried and tested in severe mountain driving and freshly serviced, would I willingly change it for any other car here?
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 01-12-2018 Part 1 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
A young driver should not left foot brake until manual cars are so rare as to be irrelevant (which will happen at some point) Older drivers, I agree, can benefit from left foot braking as long as they never drive a manual.
  • Alternating flashing headlamps. 17 Oct 2018 (Forum)
As we were authorised to use the hard shoulder quite frequently to reach incidents we enquired about having flashing headlamps fitted to our vans to give us more of a prescence when driving along the hard shoulder on the inside of queuing traffic, the answer from the Police was a resounding NO! Over to the legal experts. PP
  • Mercedes-Benz A-Class A150 W169 - Mercedes Timing chain P0016 fault 2 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Took to my local good garage, said it very common on range of cars, his version was chain may have stretched a miniscopic amount to put the light on. He said to just drive it as normal as not a major problem, it is due to the tiny tolerances set to make the engine light come on.as if light not on you cannot tell any difference in driving or engine. This garage seem to know their stuff and i have known them year and have a top reputation but no harm in second opinion.
  • Wife clipped 3rd party car in car park 17 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I've only been driving for a little over a year, and she has been driving for about a week, so sorry if we're missing something blindingly obvious. My wife drove to the local leasure centre this morning, and as she was trying to park, she misjudged it and scraped against another vehicle, she said she scraped the wheel arch.
  • dvla reporting older drivers 29 Mar 2018 (Forum)
She has a certain type of eye problem, which means she cannot see in her central field of vision. Its an accident waiting to happen. Drives the car into the garage and stops when she hits the back wall. Reverses out and hits almost every car on the street. Drives in first gear and has many many clutches. Every year at the mot it gets hundreds of pounds worth of body work done. due to scrapes etc.
  • Honda Jazz - Jazz manual gearbox. 19 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I REALLY don't want to go through all that "clutch/ gearbox/warranty/ will they/ won't they fix it at their expense" malarkey again.  Naturally when we test drive the Jazz tomorrow I'll be listening for any gearbox noise.  Ta muchly.
  • Ford Focus 2013 ecoboost 1.0 125 - Clutch problems with Ford Focus ecoboost 125 19 Jan 2018 (Forum)
My car is now back at the dealers & they report the clutch plate is worn down to the metal & the flywheel is also damaged, after just 9k miles & 12 months since the previous work done, but there is no sign of any fluid leakage. I am inclined to believe what they say. Just my wife & myself drive the car & we each have over 40 years driving mainly in manual cars, are not heavy footed (but cannot prove it) & am at a loss to understand how a clutch can be destroyed completely in 9K miles.
  • VW Golf SV, Audi A3 Sportback, Mazda 6 - First car advice...Golf SV, A3 Sportback, Mazda 6 13 Jan 2018 (Forum)
So, my original choice is Alfa Romeo 159, however friends and forum discussions I've read have told me to avoid this manufacturer (subtle Alfa bashing perhaps, but I don't want to look silly by dismissing their concerns completely, only to regret the decision down the line) I'm down to Golf SV or A3 Sportback. Also heard Mazda 6 is a fun drive so willing to look into this. I did not like Honda Civic during test drive. I have a budget of around 5K, plus a big chunk for insurance, 2200 going by quote from confused.com (long story...I had several brushes with my now stolen motocycle in the past year) Thanks in advance!
  • Mitsubishi L200 - Brake failure 10 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Left me a bit shaken as also use the pickup on public roads, amazed at the difference when 50% of the braking was lost and also by how much the pedal dropped. dont think if i had been driving within a normal distance from another car i would have been able to stop in time. not sure if the experience is useful to anyone but its certainly made me think while driving a bit more about what I would do if they failed again.
  • No idea, help! - What car next? 23 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Hello all looking for some advice on what car to get next, looking for something thats sport, can get early to mid 30's mpg when taking it easy. Budgets £6k, insurance group isn't an issues as I am 31. Currently driving a civic gt type-r. It's a great car but no mater how I drive it just won't hit 30mpg lol. I love my 3.0ltr z4 and taking it easy would hit 33mpg marker but just need the option of rear seats, even if they are uncomfortable shelf seats they will only be needed one/twice a year for relatively short people.
  • Weekend with a campervan 1 Sep 2017 (Forum)
It was good to have a loo and shower, although filling it with water was a pain (although that's partly our fault for not having a decent water carrier). And it was fun! Driving the thing was a lot more straightforward than i had anticipated. It was a 6 berth converted transit, so seemed huge, and it didn't help that I decided it was a good idea to drive it back from the depot across Birmingham!

  • 2006 Mondeo 2.0 HDI Diesel, 30,000 miles - 2006 Mondeo 2.0 HDI "pulling"/"jerking" 4 May 2017 (Forum)
Hi I recently bought this car, was impressed with the low mileage and ir ran smoothly on the test drive, it also has a full service history and is generally immaculate. MOT was April 2016. All had been fine until I got onto a motorway, at 70mph in 5th gear. I was maintaining this speed with just my foot pressed lightly on the accelerator.
  • FIAT Panda 1.2 Dynamic - Odd knocking noise with road speed 18 Mar 2017 (Forum)
The noise sounds like a knocking / thudding sound from the front end, offside I think. It happens when I first start driving the car from cold, and the knocks speed up and slow down in relation to road speed. I can also feel each thud / knock through the throttle pedal. After about a miles worth of driving the noise goes away, and the car seems fine.
