Bizarre Accident Experience This Morning 14 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Driving into work this morning I was involved in an accident. I see that the Escort size van that is two cars ahead of me is braking sharply and the car in front of me probably isn't going to stop. I look in the mirror and see a Renault too close for comfort on a wet road and behind him a transit that is going way too fast. -
astra dti loss of power steering 3 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A couple of weeks ago i started it up first thing in the morning and the battery warning light was on and as i moved away i noticed there was no power steering either, so i thought the drive belt had snapped, and drove it like this about 5 miles to our depot. When i got there i opened the bonnet, only to find the drive belt was fine and the alternator was spinning fine. I left it there for the day with the intention of looking at it later in the day, but when i went back to it the next morning i started it up and all was fine again, no battery light and power steering back as normal. -
Dream garage with a twist 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Diesel for economy and less fuel stops. Maybe a driver to go with it. 3. A second hand A160. Nice high driving position, easy to park in the smallest space, and second hand to I won't cry over car park knocks and dings. 4. ML55AMG. 'nuff said. 5. V class. Loads of space for people or furniture. 6. Gotta be a "gullwing" but I'd settle for a "Dallas" era white SL like Sue Ellen's. -
Proton Coupe 1.8 - Been Standing 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi All Before i start I'm a total car nut but no nothing about them mechanically and drive a Company Car so don't have to do anything on it bar ring the service dept. Anyhow I've been given a bit of an opportunity to take on this car for a drink basically to get it off someone's drive, the car is a persona coupe 1.8 on a S plate, looks good, a few dinks, starts 1st turn and goes well. -

Park and Ride 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
15 mins from the city centre and protected by bus lanes. At most times of the day it was quicker to P&R than it was to drive into the city centre. Although SWMBO regularly used the Norwich P&Rs, I admit that I rarely used them as I had an office parking space. Now that I?m commuting into Bristol, a place twice the size of Norwich, I? -
BMW 316i - customer options. 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I bought the car from a dealer. When i went to view the car it had a full service history. I took it for an hour test drive and no issues arose. The dealer didn't disclose any issues with the car. So happy with it i paid a deposit and collected the car the follwing day. After 2 weeks of driving the coolant light came on followed by the oil light which were leaking I have been keeping the car topped up with coolant and oil until i could have it checked yesterday. -
Seat Leon SE TDi 110 BHP Misfire 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If I pull away from a junction and change into second I get a misfire between 1800 and 2000 rpm the engine/turbo makes an ?Err, Err, Err sound. After I pass 2000 rpm the car drives OK, if a little rough. I have found if I start the engine and rev pass 2000 rpm the car will drive smother between this rev range. I have changed the air filter, engine temperature sensor, fuel filter and the N75 valve. -
The horn as a learning tool 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
If they drive solo a lot, your reaction could be the only hint they ever get that they aren't playing by the rules. Or should their behaviour go unremarked and their next piece of education be filling out an insurance claim form? -
Ford Focus steering question 22 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have a new petrol Ford Focus 1.8LX with standard steel wheels. It has a fair bit of vibration while driving at anything over 55mph. This can be felt through the steering wheel and the steering wheel can be seen to shake at times. I've had the front wheels balanced and the car examined at a dealership and they did need to increase the weights and reposition them and said everything else was fine. -
mondeo 1.8td acceleration probs help!! 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
what i mean is that the turbo doesnt seem to be cutting in at its full petential, you can feel it cut in at around 2200-2600 or something like that but it has no effect on the speed. its that slow i dont risc overtaking or pulling out . i have know idea what it could be, i have changed the glow plugs, air filter, fuel filters. i cant see know obvious leaks, there is no spillages on my drive , i cant smell fuel when driving or when its idling. thats the first problem secondly............... on the same car, my air bag light came on it started to flash at me , i was told to change the things beside the seats, the things the the seat belts plug into , apparantly the hold a charge of somesort and the old ones may have become discharged, so i changed them and the lights still flashing at me! -
Danger of cruise control in heavy rain 17 Feb 2007 (Forum)
By all means continue discussion there. DD} From HJ today for those who did not see it. "Driving down the M20 in very wet conditions recently, I hit a large puddle at 70mph. My BMW 325i aquaplaned, then skidded violently. Only luck and the absence of other road users avoided a potentially serious accident. -
Mitsubish Colt - impressions 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The 5-door version wouldn't have this problem and is well worth a look - the main recommendation being that although I'm used to bigger and more powerful cars, I'm really enjoying driving this one - as I do every time I drive a Ford Ka. -
Honda Civic Coupe/Citroen Xsara Coupe 4 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Shes quite keen on the Puma, but due to the issues with short cold runs with the 1.7 model ( which is her primary driving ), she will only consider the 1.4/1.6 models which are quite hard to find compared to the 1.7. Anyhow, shes asked me to see if there are any other possible options which are fairly small engined coupes which are very reliable and cheap to run also. -
Replacing a Focus, am I mad? 21 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Mum had one identical, but a shade older back in the day - leather, a/c cd changer, fast, economical, never missed a trick. Not a thrilling drive, but adequate she said, and I really can't imagine insurance being a problem on a diesel Rover... Based on the fact I want a change, and that that £££ could be used better, do either of these make sense. -
RAV 4 Depreciation - Trade in Value 13 Dec 2006 (Forum)
After all the fuss last week about falling 4x4 prices I approached my local Toyotal dealer with trepidation when test driving a replacement (yaris). I was even more horrified than anticipated to be offered £6,500. The car is a March 2003, GX model five door auto with added parking sensors and has an, admittedly high, mileage of 63,500 miles but in very good condition. -
Mondeo 2.5 Vs Omega 2.6 21 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Trouble is I cant decide which one to go for. I know that chances are the Omega will have an auto box - is it possible to have fun driving a car so equipped are there any techniques to spice things up? - The Mondeo is more modern and a sportier drive, but is it a bit humdrum? I like the Omega for its solidity and exec feel but does that translate into boring? -
Audi A4 1.9 TDI problems 29 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Two weeks later it did happen again, this time preceeded by a jerky loss of power followed by a sudden jolt while driving uphill. I took it back to the dealer and again they could find nothing wrong. Although it normally performs flawlessly, I have an uneasy feeling every time I take it out that the problem could arise again. -
Saab 2.2 TiD smoky exhaust? 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'd been in traffic on the motorway, once that cleared i put my foot down and got the usual puff of smoke by being a bit too heavy footed - however I noticed that it was randomly letting out quite a bit of smoke for 2 or 3 seconds, and finally one big puff (I mean pretty big!) This wasn't when accelerating particularly hard (if at all).. and it happened quite a bit on my drive home. The car has done 51,000 - so is due a service in another 3k - I notice the manual states you should change the oil and filters in a diesel engine every 6k miles if you use your car in stop start traffic often (I drive on the motorway a lot, and with it being England, that means stop start for quite a bit!) -
poss fuel consumption problem 26 Sep 2006 (Forum)
(rush hour stop start with a fair amount of completely stationary traffic, max 4 miles journey at a time) 38-39 mpg... on a very long motorway journey, that includes 120 miles of very good fast A roads at the end of it(driven quite hard, 4th gear selected when gaps appear on motorway with full acceleration, cruise control at well over the limit for the rest of it and constant overtakes on A road at max acceleration, car very heavily laden 47-50 if you fill it up, cruise quite gently in 5th at 40-50 mph but take it very carefully...(can never last very long doing that, drives me mad) others have said it's not as economical as it should be........ i tend to think it's my divers boot driving on the long journey and the city traffic stuff is to be expected......... however, it's left a niggling doubt....... and you know what they're like.
