Horrendous Economy or lead foot? 29 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I never put any more in and so, obviously, never fill the tank. Because of this, I wouldn't be able to give you the MPG figures but I have tried changing my driving style. At first I tried toning it down I bit. I don't drive like a loon anyway (subjective) but I did drive slower. Still didn't notice that much of a change so I took it even slower keeping it under 3,000 revs, sticking to 70 like glue, aircon off etc... but fortunately I never noticed a difference. -

Volvo V70 D5 - update 13 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Unfortunately, the S60 (I think a 03 model) still had some of the same problems as my 01 V70. Most noticable was very loud aircon - it wheezed and hissed the whole time and was like driving with a heavy breather in the car. Incredibly annoying. Do Volvo actually drive any of their cars before putting them into production? There are also still resonance points in the rev range through the exhaust although apparently the mounting has changed on new models. -
Tory party to review speed limits ... 1 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I also beleive that the road tax disc should be abolished and replaced by a supplimental levy on fuel, I beleive this would be more efficient and equitable, so the more you drive the more you pay. Road pricing (another stealth tax) should only be introduced after genuine improvements have been made to roads/rail infrastructure. All road humps should be ripped up and removed, they increase pollution and do not stop postie or white van man from driving slowly! -
anyone heard about this??!! 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)

"It couldn't happen to me" 10 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Good thing too, because I had just fallen asleep at the wheel. I knew I was tired, and for that reason had been deliberately driving quite moderately for the whole journey. But I hadn't thought for a second that I was in any danger of actually nodding off, although I do remember thinking that the drive was starting to get a little hypnotic. -
Sneaky Cameras 23 Jun 2001 (Forum)
If it sounds like this is becoming something of an obsession with me, your right, it is! Watch out, you could be next. If you drive for a living, it don't take long for them points to mount up. -
Yuasa battery question 27 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Since March it has performed perfectly. It failed suddenly whilst driving, luckily close to a local and trusted garage. So the question is simply, are Halfords right? The "techie" guys at the MR2 club have strong views, but then they often do! Hence seeking a more balanced and nuanced opinion. -
125k '16, this gen, pSH vs 95k, FSH, last gen '15 1 Sep 2024 (Forum)
2016 has a smaller engine, but given the use case (<15 min commute, mostly down an A road, weekend trips away and some country driving) that is fine. Car will be used for a lapsed driver (~5 years since having driven, and a new driver - still learning - will be dropped off to work until they are confident driving). I'm leaning towards the newer model, smaller engine for the extra features, but unsure how 25k miles and partial SH will affect value. -
Mercedes-benz CL500 Auto - Using trader plates to steal cars 24 Aug 2024 (Forum)
Hi I had my car stolen from my drive a few days ago and I believe I know who stole the vehicle. He has trader plates and trades under a sole trader company. I reported it to the police and informed them of the make, model and number plate of the vehicle. -
Which used car- budget of 10 k t-20,000 miles/year 10 Aug 2024 (Forum)
My seat 1.6 tdi has nearly died ( 163 k miles) and so i need a new used car to help get me to work 4 times a wee k ( 25 miles each way) and for 260 mile round trips to see my elderly father 2-times per month I have been tempted to look at the golf 1.4 tsi ( post 2014 ) and see ot gets good reviews but my work colleagues tell me that i should get a bigger engine and so the 2.0 tdi may be the better bet. I tried a mazada 3 ( 2.0 petrol 120 bhp - 2017 ) on a test drive as i read they were very reliable cars but i was not too keen on the drive. I am not sure if the 1.4 tsi would be a big enough or robust engine to cope with the miles i do 25 k per year possibly. Any advice would be welcome -
Oil consumption and regular servicing 9 Jul 2024 (Forum)
The 1991 Pug 205 (1.4 petrol) car I got at the end of 2022 from its original owner came with an almost complete servicing history. The car's handbook advises 15/40 oil or (amusingly) 10/40 'for sporty driving'. As far as I can tell it had 15/40 until about 2011, when semi/synth appeared, and after 2016 it got Millers 10/40, though I don't suppose the lady owner started to drive sportily from then on. -
Nissan Micra - Nissan Micra issues 12 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Drove for a couple of mins and parked up for work. Yesterday my front lights were flickering I noticed driving into work for a bit. Could it be connected and my battery? Car was bought from a Nissan dealer so it should have been checked when I bought it. The other thing is the milage I'm getting. -
Can an independent car dealer find you a car? 20 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question. So I’m finally learning to drive and I’m looking at getting my first car sometime this year. However I’m running into brick walls when it comes finding the right car. I’m learning to drive automatic (I find manual too hard) and I’m looking at all the dealerships websites in my area and all I’m finding is mainly manual cars. -
Kia Picanto - Gearbox problems 10 Sep 2023 (Forum)
[endif]-->I am after advice on my gearbox. My car is a 2014 Kia Picanto. Last week as I was driving and my clutch went. I looked down and saw some sort of clip had come off. I was in the middle lane of a busy road. I had to force my car back into gear a couple of times so I could get off to a side road. -
Ford Focus clutch juddering - fixed? 7 Nov 2022 (Forum)
He said it's probably glazed so just slip it for a while which should burn it off. I never felt happy doing that, clutch abuse is just against how I was taught to drive so I left it. In any case the juddering wasn't bad and it was possible to compensate for it by dipping the clutch just as you could feel through the pedal it was about to judder. Anyway, my recent trip to Devon involved staying at a property on a steep lane and an awkward reverse onto the drive. -
Is it possible? (£4,000.00 Budget) 31 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Also good safety ratings generally are sought after. Power. I live rurally, in a rather hilly area and a lot of the driving will be to work. I don't want to have to struggle with lack of power regularly, therefore a bit of poke would be nice. Nice interior/looks would be nice - I realise that's relative, but I am pretty simple really! -
Any - Accuracy of mpg computers 26 Jun 2022 (Forum)
At last, a long distance opportunity to check our 2019 Peugeot 1.2 puretech EAT6 130 computer accuracy - a holiday down to Cognac, mainly motorways (smooth clear French ones, bumpy crowded English ones) with a bit of local driving during our stay. Starting mileage approx 13,500, so front tyres (presumably providing the info) approx half worn. SWMBO drives cautiously and slowly, so long term computer no. 1 currently reads 6214 miles, 42.7mpg, 32 avr.mph. -
Mazda 2 - clutch judder - return car? 29 May 2022 (Forum)
Don't really want to return it - it's a nice car, I spent ages searching, and I'm happy to live with it if it's more of a feature than a problem. Might even be my driving style. My previous car was a 2010 Mazda3 with the 1.6, which gave it a leisurely 0-60 of over 12s (although it was great to drive) compared to the sub-10 of the 2. It needed some revs to pull away up the hill, and I did think I felt a bit of judder in that.
