  • Classic car insurance for young drivers 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Also, how old would the car have to be to count as a classic with the insurers? I’d love an e39 5 series because you can get 1998 examples for around £1000, but if the cars needed to be 25 years old, I’d have to look at something like a cavalier, merc 190, Volvo, Saab, or any other car that’s fairly safe.
  • Lexus LS430 - Driving to Europe in an old large engine Lexus 4.3 24 Aug 2018 (Forum)
So on a last minute impulse I have just booked a ferry trip to France in my 2002 Lexus LS 4.3 litre an old beast which hasn’t been in use for a while now . Now I have just realised that there may be some additional issues with driving a large engine car. Apart from getting the warning triangle, breathalysers, spare bulbs and high visibility jacket...
  • Renault Selections PCP 27 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I would be getting a brand new car which I have always vowed not to do as I would suffer the depreciation, whereas I have seen 6 month old versions for £3000 less. 2. I always think of the old Ford "Options" scheme and various people whom I knew got bitten badly by them.

  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - Fair price for car? 24 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Parkers guide gives a price of £3495 for an independant. The dealer says that good second hand cars are in short supply. We have seen similar car at a different dealers and they wouldn't budge at all on their price, again this was valued lower on Parkers. Do you think this is a fair deal for this car?

  • Renault Laguna - Rear end shunt - always to blame?? 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The old woman made no attempt to get out of the car, instead her daughter got out of the passenger seat and started going on about how my wife should have stopped. My wife went to the old woman to see how she was, usual claim of banging her head (so we can quite expect a 'whiplash' claim) but also disclosed that she was feeling unwell but also said that was unrelated to the accident.
  • Reducing environmental impact. 22 Aug 2006 (Forum)
All true, except this Guy (who was doing the praising of the workman) was from the SMMT which for me made me suddenly cynical and I thought well he would say that wouldnt he - not biting the hand that feeds and all that. Okay, this got me thinking. I always thought that its better to soldier on with an old car doing it up when it needs it than waste world energy/materials regardless of wether the old car chucks out more emissions because your'e saving the manufacturing process and everything from ore to finished car.
  • BMW 420i X-drive - Advice on options at the end of a business lease 13 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The question is do I find a way to keep a five year old BMW, or look for a new car? What are the likely pitfalls with a five year old BMW? If a new car, then what? I thought of an Audi A5 (before the new model arrives) but I recall the driving experience as being tremendously dull.

  • 2010 Astra Replacement 20 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Hi all I am looking for recommendations for a suitable replacement for my 2010 Astra. I know that the Dacia Sandero can be had for under 14k new, or just under 10k for a 1 or 2 year old model.  I know 3 year old Astras are 13k ish. The only medium size cars i have seen cheaper are either a Suzuki Baleno or Fiat Tipo. If only prices would come down, maybe they will in the coming months
  • Evolution not revolution 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Looking around at how car designs have changed I can see the advantage of owning a Golf or Audi saloon way past their sell by date. The designs haven’t changed much over the years . Take a Mk 5 Golf coming up to 19 years old and it still looks fresh.
  • Ford grand cmax. - honda crv - What's best 31 Jul 2020 (Forum)
But on this post I wondered what people thought about spending £10k on a ford grand c max 1.5 diesel that's about 3.5 years old or a honda CRV that's nearly six years old . Not so much about the cars as such more about reliability and general running costs over the next few years
