  • Polo Mk5: lights for continental driving 23 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I recently took my 2002 Polo (1.2 E 65) to France on holiday. Before going, I asked my VW dealer about headlamp converters (the handbook says consult...

Could the motoring mod-cons and safety intent technology actually be making motoring more dangerous???? Leon Never drive faster than your guardian angel can fly...
  • Omega!! ! 12 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Also, slightly off the topic but perhaps some of the more advanced and experienced members here can advise me.. given the current rather nasty icy conditions and the rather uncertain road conditions in my area, what is the best advise when driving on possibly icy roads. Also if the car does begin to slide, what\'s the best thing to do? Its an auto and rear wheel drive by the way! Thanks all, Simon
  • Omega Automatic Transmission 18 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I've had it about 6 months and love the car but......... on the digital readout the words "automatic transmission" have appeared twice in the last two days. I've been able to drive the car still albeit at lower speeds and taking things easy. As soon as possible I've stopped, put the gearbox in Park, switched the engine off, then restarted the engine selected drive and the display returns to normal.
  • Disheartened. 22 May 2003 (Forum)
The driver ran off but was soon apprehended. He is now remanded in custody on charges of Death by Reckless, Disq Driving, Driving Over The Limit and no insurance. The driver of the other vehicle is on bail. I DO NOT WISH TO GENERATE DISCUSSION ON THIS PARTICULAR CASE AS IT IS NOW SUB JUDICE. Then on the news tonight I see that a male was convicted of the murder of two Police Officers on the A42 last Summer when having been pursued for some time deliberately drove into the back of their vehicle.
  • Faulty Tail Lights 29 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I definitely noted a 52 Reg Volvo at one point so it wasn't just old bangers either. This probably sounds like a petty gripe, but it can be extremely confusing when your driving up behind a motorbike, only to find out its not a bike after all. Other than the tail light issues, I was very impressed with the standard of driving in such difficult conditions. Heavy rain combined with thick spray around dusk is not my idea of fun.
  • BMW reliability 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Speaking to BMW service manager his view is that BMW electronics find life tough due to the heat and dust of the middle east, which is a fair point but are cars not made these day for all geographies? It seems to me that these cars are only made for the average environment and if you live and drive these cars in extreme heat or cold then you should expect more faults. So much for the "ultimate driving machine". BMW service manager says Japanese electronics more reliable but also more simplle which I find hard to believe.
  • 3 year old Micra or Ka? 21 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Can't decide which, and would appreciate advice. These are my requirements: 1. My wife is on a provisional and needs to learn to drive. 2. She's 28, but I suppose I still need a low insurance group. 3. I want to sell the car privately within a year (assuming she passes) for the same amount I paid for it. 4. I want something fairly quiet and smooth riding, so it doesn't drive me insane on the motorway. 5.
  • Vauxhall Discounts 10 Jul 2002 (Forum)

  • Changing Attitudes 17 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I should be allowed to use my discretion by how much I exceed the speed limit.? or those who feel that it is acceptable to use their mobile phones while driving. I wonder how this will be viewed in 20 years time. I personally feel that some speed limits are too low. This particularly applies to motorways; although the police generally do not bother those who keep under, say, 85mph.
  • Disabled driver, normal car 31 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I remember about five years ago she applied for planning permission to build a special bungalow for a disabled person and produced a letter from her GP which said she would soon be in a wheelchair due to her disability. Yet she is still driving an un-adapted car. To shop or not to shop, that is the question. Might save a life!
  • Low profile tyres finding tracks in road 2 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Just discovered this forum, expect a lot from me! I have an R reg Omega MV6, 35k miles, bought with 23k on. It is a wonderful drive, fast, comfortable etc etc but has one niggling bad habit which is that it finds ruts and lumps in the road and tries to drive along them, or leap around them. It is very pronounced and can be quite unnerving sometimes.
  • Polo problems persist 10 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My problem is that when cold the engine will idle roughly and when I pull away there is a lack of power and if I have to stop within the first couple of minutes of driving it will probably stall. The only thing I can compare it to is driving a car with a manual choke and not having the choke out fully. My car has fuel injection so there's not a lot I can do reagrding the choke!!
  • Underpowered Motas vs Kyoto 15 Aug 2001 (Forum)
As an example, I always remember the Rover 216 Coupe being a real dog and thirsty to boot whereas the adequately powered 220 Coupe was a pleasure to drive and more economical. As an aside - the credit card keyless system on the Laguna - WOW! (lots to go wrong tho?)
  • Great fun today 10 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I can heartily recommend driving this way when in front of a cop car, and I plan to do it whenever I get the chance! Obviously not when he has his blues on. Have fun!

  • Switzerland - E-Vignette 21 Apr 2025 (Forum)
Just about to plan a visit to see one of youngroverbelles and found this. handy to get in advance although strictly speaking I could manage without it crossing at La Cure and only driving down to Versoix. easier to use public transport on a day pass.   https://www.ch.ch/en/travel-and-emigrate/holidays-in-switzerland/how-to-behave-in-road-traffic/motorway-vignette/
