  • Audi a3 1.4 tfsi - Strange Noise from Front Left Tire - Need Help! 9 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I took my car to a mechanic, and they took it for a spin. They mentioned it could potentially be related to the brake pads, but upon inspection, the pads seem to be in decent condition. The thing is, the mechanic didn't actually hear the noise themselves. Lucky for me, I managed to capture the sound in a recording, which you can listen to here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/nqd0rngeqr1sd07zkuxhb/IMG_1357.MOV?
  • 11 plate Suzuki Alto 25 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I found that rather impressive Suzuki simple mechanics can be so reliable and at the same time incredible an owner can be so ignorant In over 10 years of ownership the car has only required tyres and brakes until this recent MOT when part of the exhaust and some suspension components were replaced.
  • Hyundai Amica 02/Automatic - Hyundai Amica '02 - MOT Advisories 21 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Oddly enough, one has come up on Autotrader close to where I live for £1,750 (next MOT end of July) with the following advisories: Rear Registration plate deteriorated but not likely to be misread (0.1 (b)) Power steering pipe/hose has slight seepage steering rack (2.1.5 (a)) Nearside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement rear bush (5.3.4 (a) (i)) Offside Front Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement rear bush (5.3.4 (a) (i)) Offside Front Wheel bearing slightly noisy (5.1.3 (b) (i)) Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material all pipes coated (1.1.11 (c)) are these going to be costly to fix down the line? Should I give this a skip?
  • Simpler times 24 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Every time it sensed a line in the road (often where none existed) it bleeps an annoying warning at me, must’ve done it a dozen times or so on our short journey. The also completely unnecessary electronic parking brake also works counterintuitively and I find it takes far longer to operate the thing than a simple conventional handbrake. The stereo and ventilation controls are unnecessary complex for a simpleton like me too.
  • VW Polo 1.2 - Is it worth continuing with main dealer servicing? 25 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I didn’t buy from VW, but it did come with 4 VW services under its belt. It’s now due a major service and also apparently a brake fluid service. My local VW have quoted £433 for this work, a local garage (specialising in VW, Audi and Skoda) has quoted around the £300 mark. My question is, from a resale value perspective, is it worth continuing with main dealer servicing?
  • New Car - Kia Stonic 1.0 2 spec T-gdi 6 speed white 13 Oct 2021 (Forum)
I wasn't really intending to change, Sportage has been superb,  and net cost to change was pocket money. but, as said in another thread, all new tyres, brakes, etc etc, free mats, 2 years free servicing, and a FULL size steel wheel and correct tyre thrown in. plus rac + cover inc europe.   I'll report later. ORB
  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.1 - Recommissioning a car 28 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Are these good cars and what problems should I be looking for on this model? I am expecting that it would need a complete service, new brake discs and pads, a battery and possibly a set of tyres. I could do most of this myself. Anything I am overlooking?
  • Kia Ceed 1.6 2014 reg - Tyre losing pressure but no obvious damage 16 Feb 2021 (Forum)
I had a front tyre (alloy) making a tinny whirring noise and the tyre losing pressure. Eventually this stopped after the brakes were replaced (and after 7 separate visits to Parks Kia who have been a nightmare) but a year later I'm still getting low tyre pressure.   I've had 2 different Parks Kia dealerships check the tyre and both can't find anything wrong.
  • Clio 1.2 2007 - Clio 1.2 2007 high revs - advice needed 11 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Engine still revving between 100 & 2000 RPM with no throttle pedal movement. Diagnostics showing weird errors such as ABS fault, brake light fault. Auto electrician suggest that faulty throttle body unit may have damaged ECU or Body control module. He suggests couple of companies local to me that may be able to reprogram these units to clear issues?

  • ANY - RIP DOT3? 10 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Here in Taiwan anyway. IIRC I bought this (just emptied) bottle at RT-Mart. Supermarkets don’t sell brake fluid any more AFAIK, and its a bit surprising they ever did, since there is no Taiwanese DIY. https://forumosa-12829.kxcdn.com/uploads/default/optimized/3X/4/3/4326d15908b29ff9 eac09d103db0ef780e3fe176_2_666x500.jpeg Anyway, since I never learn, I was quietly confident of getting it at a CPC filling station.
  • Why won't my car start? 7 May 2020 (Ask HJ)
My 2010 Nissan Juke will not start. The keyfob works but the ignition doesn't work at all. When pushing start button as usual, it just doesn't start. What...
  • Jaguar XK - Cranks but won't start after a stormy night 23 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Next morning it cranks but won't start. Recharged the battery as the first suspect - no luck. Tried hacks with brake pedal and start button - same. Attached you will find videos of the car starting and readings from the OBD port with OBD Fusion app. Have some ideas what to do next, but would love to get your input first.
  • Renault Captur - Knocking/rattling noise 7 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Just bought a used car which passed its mot with flying colours, but have noticed a knocking/rattling noise coming from the front end, it’s mainly when driving at 40-50 mph and taking foot off accelerator that I hear it although sometimes when braking too. I took the car back to garage where their mechanics put it up on ramps and couldn’t find any issues but I said it’s when the car is being driven that it occurs so I’ve to take it in tomorrow and leave with them.
  • N/a - Aggressive Driving 31 Jul 2019 (Forum)
When he finally joins the road he is behind her and forces his way in front and slams on his brakes, speeds up and does this several times. Daughter, who is a novice driver was distraught - and she is not one to flinch much and her job involves clearing up the mess from RTAs. She wants to report the driver to the police on 101.
  • Toyota MR2 - MOT failed twice on different issues!? 19 Jul 2018 (Forum)
They took the failure printout and my £35 and I waited whilst they did another full MOT. This time it failed on a brake caliper. I want to know if this can be correct? Should they only have retested the failure items? Can a caliper even go from pass to fail in 19 days? Also the advisories on both failure printouts are different!
  • Honda Jazz - First Car - MOT History Advice - Unsure 17 May 2018 (Forum)
I know it's not much but it's all I've got. It's got a great MOT history with only one considerable fail for the brake pipe corroding. This is just my opinion, the other fails were for windscreen wipers, lights, etc.  The car has about 100,000 miles on the clock and there seems to be no problems with it.
  • Ford focus 1.6tdci 2008 - Engine vibration and rough running 13 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I have however noticed that there seems to be oil in and around the electrical connections for the injectors I'm not getting any warning lights on the dash so I'm a bit baffled..when it comes to cars I'm ok with suspension, brakes and general wear and tear but have limited knowledge when it comes to engines. The car just seems very rough and lumpy..I have checked all air hoses and connections and all seems fine the car has also recently been serviced and gear oil changed.

  • General topic. - protection from flying luggage 26 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I need to carry a lot of stuff from one country to another in the back of my Rapid with the back seats flattened and the space filled to the roof lining. And I know this is very dangerous if I hit someone or something or even brake sharply.  I have thought about this safety aspect a lot and may get some scaffolders in to make a cage, (Joke)  I've looked for commercially available cages.  Maybe my wife could do the journey kneeling in her seat and holding everything in place.
