  • Vauxhall Omega idle speed 16 Aug 2001 (Forum)
I drops to around 1200 to 1500 rpm and with an automatic box this is a problem because the car wants to travel at 30mph on its own. The Vauxhall dealer has had three attempts to rectifiy this problem and it;s still there. I am aware of another (manual) Omege with the same problem.
  • Cash Back Motoring (5PencePerMile) 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
As a stealth tax Fuel Duty has been very successful; the Government estimates it will bring in approximately £25.7 billion for the 2008/09 tax year and then there is the VAT to add on top of that, it?s equivalent to taking £1,000 from every UK driving license holder and if you spend £135 per month on fuel that?s exactly what they are taking off of you.
  • Landmark parking ticket victory 2 Dec 2008 (Forum)
For years councils have unfairly penalised motorists for trivial contraventions like parking slightly over a parking bay and have said ?that?s the law?. Well this is the law and the council failed to comply and must suffer with the consequences? Barrie?s advice to motorists who have received parking tickets for parking on single yellow lines in the F3 zone in Westminster is to contest their parking ticket quoting the ?
  • Oil Specification & viscosity Info. 1 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The fact is that in the wrong application a high viscosity oil can be just as damaging as using a low viscosity oil. The use of an oil that?s too ?thin? can cause metal-to-metal contact, poor sealing and increased oil consumption and conversely, an oil that?s too ?thick? can cause increased friction, reduced energy efficiency, higher operating temperatures, and poor cold starts in cold temperatures.

I am dubious that life meant much over 10 years old and 100k! Do you think the oil and filter change are worth trying in case it is now s sludge box rather than a slush box?

  • Kia Sportage - Another over designed car. Where's good design? 18 Jun 2021 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/new-cars/2021-06/revealed-all-new-2021-kia-sportage-get-dramatic-redesign/ The current one, like ORB's has always looked bang on to me, and more classy than an Eyoke. Where has simple good design gone to? Mazda seem to get it right, although the 3's C-pillar is on the slab/van thickness side.
  • Estate or SUV - Next family car 18 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I'm on the hunt for the next family car. I've recently found these two models, a Suzuki SX4 S-Cross and a Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSI. Both have decent pull, good mileage and imo impressive MPG. Any thoughts on the two? https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101268371434 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202101278396329 Also any major considerations to be aware of when it comes to SUVs vs estates?

I have studied the manual but there are so many things to get used to. It drives very nicely and  does mid 40's to a gallon, very comfortable and easy to see out of which wasn't the case with the slk. Had a major service from the main dealers before I got it but after the warranty year runs out it will my trusted indie looking after it.

  • Car care - Your most obsessional lock-down task so far? 12 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Yesterday I removed the TR7's cam cover and spent much of the sunny afternoon removing the carbon deposited on the inside surface from the breather pipe.  Last time it was removed was in 1987 at 41,100 miles to check the valve clearances.

  • Cheap car to modify 6 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Not sure where I should post this but my wife has a 1.6 focus company car so I wanted to look at buying a cheap car or classic car to just use occasionally   I was thinking of a £1000 to buy then spend a bit of money over time customising it to make it a bit different from the usual standard hum drum. I am in my 50's but with a long car history from classics to 4x4s   I am happy to look at anything long as it's different Any suggestions   Cheers

  • Kia with a nervous twitch 26 May 2018 (Forum)
On my way to work this morning i passed a current shape Kia Cee'd going the other way and it's n/s daytime running light was flashing rapidly, not actually going on and off, but dull and bright. Made me think it had a nervous twitch, in fact the first thing that popped into my head was (the great) Herbert Lom in the Pink Panther films!.
