  • EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT IN LAST 2 YEARS or LOOKING NOW 3 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Dear All, happy new year!! I am running a survey to try to understand more about the car buying process for a potential idea I had. I would be MASSIVELY grateful if those who have bought a car in the past 2 years or are currently looking now could kindly take this survey.
  • citroen g4 picasso - stop start 14 Dec 2020 (Forum)
So far I've seen stuff about alternator , belt tensioners, starter motor and battery which all make sense , however the question I have is if fixed under warranty ( great ) but is it worth the overall hassle that may come from stop start wear and tear and so far in my research questionable savings and that maybe just turn it off for good AND is it ok to turn it off in the long run.  regards  tom
  • Any - Light Duty Impact Wrench 11 Sep 2020 (Forum)
(Apologies for the Chinese, though Chinese isn't really my fault.) As long as it isn’t complete junk. a cheap light duty impact wrench that runs off a car battery makes sense for very infrequent DIY use, though it makes no commercial sense if its only available in Taiwan, where the market for such a thing will be tiny. Someone on the local expat forum bought one for a job on his scooter, which it did, but havn't heard anything more.

  • 1976 Earls Court motor show (Thames TV) 6 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Highlights for me were the Lancia Gamma and Monte Carlo, and the Colt Sigma (family friend had one, metallic brown of course) "which will happily run on two star petrol"!. Also didn't realise that Vauxhall were in such a precarious position? And of course given the current market, the electric car near the end has to be mentioned, not so much for the car itself, but for the hopelessly optimistic future predictions of battery range and tehnology (within the next 10 years), a car capable of 80mph with a 500 mile range........!!
  • Skoda Octavia Mk3 1.5 TSI DSG hatch - New Car Oil & Filter Change at 1,000miles? 26 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Is it worthwhile booking it in (and me paying for) at 1,000 mile point a simple engine oil and filter change by the Skoda dealer?   As an engineer, I fully understand that machines do need to be run in and some early wear/oil contamination is likely.  I want to keep the car for up to five years, so early care might be prudent??  What are your thoughts?  Anyone else done a similar thing?
  • Tips on which used car? 2 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Ideally we are looking for a small car for weekend use. Occasional driving on a motorway (so perhaps not a car with a 1.0 engine), cheap to run, 5 doors, and ultimately reliable. In terms of budget we are happy to go up to £5,000 BUT will go for the cheapest type of car we can get which matches what we want..... Thank you!
  • 2008 vw golf 1.9tdi - DPF fitted or not 14 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Others say some earlier models had them as an option. Mine is a 2008 golf 1.9tdi with the bxe engine.  I really need to sort this running problem out and have exhausted all my options. Can anyone help. Thanks
  • Volkswagen Golf R32 - Tyre and road noise, can it be improved? 14 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Loving driving my mk 5 Golf R32,  the engine is just so sweet and responsive and the power delivery so flexible, it munches up hills barely even needing a change down.  BUT, the tyre and road noise is very obtrusive, gives me a head ache,  today it is running on Michelin Pilot Sports. What can be done to reduce this noise? engine and exhaust noise are and wind noise are NOT the issue, I am only talking about tyre/road noise.   Out of interest,  which cars would be rated best for tyres and road noise (should I decide to change the R32)..

"In diesel exposure" Only this morning I posted on another website about the possible problems of continuing to run ICE cars as 2035 approaches, assuming the present proposals come about. The number of filling stations has been dwindling as long as I can remember. The economics of petrol/diesel sales will get steadily worse as the proportion of EVs grows so as 2035 approaches it may be as difficult to fill up as it is now to charge your EV during a journey.
  • Toyota Camry - Would you change coolant hoses 2 Feb 2020 (Forum)
My 1999 Toyota Camry has covered about 300k miles. It still runs well and is trouble free. Uses no oil or water. I hope to keep it maybe another 5 years. The coolant hoses are all original. They look and feel fine but they are 20 years old. Would you change them?
  • Vauxall combo cargo - Vauxhall combo cargo thoughts 14 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Im toying with the idea of getting a petrol over a diesel mostly because it will be used for fairly short runs around town and I dont need any particulate filter issues in the future, Anyone have one/ driven one, what do you think of them and are they worth the !0 - 12 K that they can be had for now.  Thanks all, any advice is welcome, great forum btw
  • 2006 Audi A6 saloon tdi - water leak 2 Jan 2020 (Forum)
When about 3 inches of water in well it transfers to front well. I ran hosepipe on front windscreen and water leaks in and I think runs down a channel in the floor plan to the rear. Cleared what debris i could but have not yet removed pollen filter as its awkward to get at. Earlier A6's had problems with water under blocked drain plugs that were under the battery but that is not so with my audi as the battery is in the boot.
  • Peugeot 308 - Peugeot 308 brake system warning and crunching br. 2 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi all    I posted a thread earlier about how my abs /esp warning light came on in my Peugeot 308. Tonight I took it for a short run to see if the issue was still there, I noticed quickly that the brakes (or something else) was crunching when I was braking at low speeds. The I got a "brake system" warning which told me to stop the car.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - 15 years NCB, 2-month gap before renewal 14 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I've got 15+ years of no claims bonus. My insurance runs out on 15-Oct. However, as it happens, I go out of the country for 2 months around then and return on 15-Dec. Is it possible for me to have my renewal starting from 15-Dec (as opposed to 15-Oct) and still keep my NCB?
  • Toyota Hilux Ford Ranger Isuzu Rodeo - Used Crew Cab Pick UP 9 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Evening all, I am looking for a crew cab pick up, which will be my only vehicle. I have just started self employment as a tree surgeon and really don't want to run two vehicles just yet. I have a budget of about £6,000 and short listed the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu Rodeo/D-Max. The Nissan Navara I have ruled out due to chassis corrosion issues.
  • Extended warranty, urgent help 2 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I own a X5. FSH by BMW, 10k on the clock, bought new. Warranty runs out in a weeks time. ie 3 years old in the first week of September.   Looked at Warranty Direct and were cheaper than Motor Easy. ME appears to be offering a better cover as far as I can tell but the quote was about 30% more expensive.
  • Nissan Qashqai /Hyundai Tucson - Best buy Nissan Qashqai /Hyundai Tucson 15 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I'm considering changing my car for either a Nissan Qashqai or Hyundai Tucson.  I had A Tucson a few years ago, 54 plate and loved it, except for the running costs, petrol /Road tax. I see the newer ones are more economical 16 plate. Obviously, I'm aware I need a good towing vehicle for a lightweight 2 berth caravan, I'll be doing a lot of mileage, not just driving it on short trips.
  • MG TF 1.8 135hp - Cooling fan 10 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Hello, bit of an overheating problem with my MG TF, overheats after running stationary for about 20 minutes, just replaced water pump, timing belt and tensioner. does not indicate above normal temp on water gauge but starts to steam, the cooling fan is not kicking in.I have bled the system.
  • 90K Astra maintainance 4 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Apart from the regular service things on the schedule, should I be doing anything more? The car is now being used for more short runs than I would like. Any advice gratefully received! Many thanks. Barchettaman
