  • Number Plates on UK Cars 24 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Many cars now have deliberatly scruffy numberplates - that is the numberplate appears to have a stain on it. I assume this is to fool the speed cameras. Does it work and don't the police stop and warn for this offence?
  • What has become of Capt. Gatso? 11 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I hears rumours of a Captain Gatso who was going round disabling speed cameras but have no details. Is he alive and well? Was he a ficticious character? Please enlighten.

  • ANPR cameras - they work y'know ! 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
They were very polite, courteous even, when they realised the situation and the fact that Lancashire police had forgotton to take my details of the stolen register. So, it just goes to show these things work. I think I might even make it onto 'Police, Camera, Stop !" Cheers jdc

  • do you enjoy driving? 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
A recent survey found a great percentage of motorists were not enjoying motoring due to the speed humps-cameras-unused cycle lanes etc. I am one of these folks...how about you?
  • Christina Rees of the general synod 17 Aug 2001 (Forum)

  • Spy camera identifies polluting drivers 23 Jul 2007 (Forum)
If successful, it could be adopted by other local authorities across Britain. A TfL spokesman insisted that, if adopted, the new cameras would not be used to target drivers but to record the overall success of the zone. TfL is currently installing different cameras around the perimeter of London capable of calculating from the model of each heavy goods vehicle whether it is capable of meeting the low emissions target.

  • Best small but powerful automatic with extras?? 11 Jan 2019 (Forum)
So... any ideas on a Mazda 2 sized car that has an automatic transmission that still packs some punch, but also has rear parking camera, heated seats, sat nav, electric rear windows? I’ve been googling until I’m blue in the face. Can find larger cars with the spec and engine, but all the smaller ones seem to be have engines that do 0-60 in about an hour, or don’t have / let you add things like rear parking camera.
  • Hit and Run 13 Nov 2017 (Forum)
I have almost an exact time and location and make and model of the car. The camera points directly onto the slip road it would have 100% picked up the car fleeing. My question is am I allowed by law to request a copy of the cctv footage for myself to look through? I have had to rely on the operator to check for me but I would much prefer to check myself.

  • traffic light offences 4 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Is it reasonable to ask for clearer evidence before making the dreaded payment? Also there are no signs indicating the presence of cameras on this stretch of road, although I don't know if this only applies to speed cameras. I just wondered if anyone has been in this situation. Thanks {Made non make/model specific. Only compulsory to select this when in Technical Matters.
  • Hypocrytical use of Council cars 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Driving through Hammersmith this afternoon I was rather surprised to see Hammersmith & Fulham Councils choice of car. It had 'Estate Warden' written down the side and had a CCTV camera poking out of the roof. I assume the car is used for patrolling estates in the area making sure the proles are behaving themselves. Now often cars with CCTV cameras poking out the roof are Smart cars - ideal for the urban environment, such as that found in Hammersmith & Fulham.
  • NIP received from m4 toll plaza 24 Aug 2009 (Forum)
So i get home to find a NIP from Gwent police to say i was caught on camera doing 68 in a 50 zone that was near the m4 toll plaza. Now from what i can remember i never saw any 50 limit signs at all and the fact that is says 68 indicates to me i 'thought' it was a 70 limit.
