  • Suzuki - New AA Warranty Catastrophe Cover: is it worth it? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Costing £8.99, rather than the regular £25 a month, it is intended to provide major mechanical breakdown repairs, but carries a higher excess of £300. Costly problems flagged up by the AA include automatic transmission and cam belt failures. ?It?s the costly threat of a broken gearbox, failed engine or other catastrophic problems that most concerns people when they take out insurance,? said AA Warranty managing director Simon Tennyson. His company specialises in motor warranty and residual value-based gap insurance products".
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 electrical problems 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
There are two minor but annoying electrical problems on my wife's 306. The interior lights do not work when opening the drivers door but do with the n/s door. The door switch is not one where it shorts the power to earth but there should be two wires but there is only one on that side. I have tried hard to find a detached cable in the body space without any luck.
  • 3 kids - what car? 30 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I would much rather have RWD but I can see the arguments over who sits in the middle already :-( Is there a car anywhere that can accommodate three rapidly growing kids in the back, yet still offer decent performance and handling? New or Used I am seriously considering selling the disco and the supra and buying 2 mini cooper S and accept the fact that when we go anywhere as a family we will take two cars!!!
  • Last Chance Saloon Award 15 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Many years ago ( early 1980's ) a company which supplied ours had an "incentive" scheme for their sales reps. The deal was that all reps were issued with identical Cortinas as their standard car. The company also owned one Aston Martin and one Skoda.
  • Honda Prelude (1996 - 2000) - Towbar for 5th gen Prelude? 12 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've got myself in a bit of a bind and I'm hoping one of the knowledgeable regulars on here may be able to help, or at least point me in the right direction. Two weeks ago I bought a 1998 S Honda Prelude, got an excellent deal and was generally delighted with my purchase and very pleased with myself. This week I have called my local towing specialist to take them up on a quote they gave me before purchase to fit a tow bar (because I need to fit a bike rack).
  • Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - How to find your car's exact engine spec? 4 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I have all my A3's documents and can't find anything that says what horsepower the car is. The car data sticker says 1.9 TDI sport - which i know, but is it 100, 110 or 115 bhp? Is there an easy way of telling? I have a problem in that the car's acceleration frequently fades away to a 'plateue?'
  • Dating Old Daily Mail Motoring Map 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Was wondering if anyone could help date it ? There are no (C) dates on it anywhere. I think it may be '50's but can't be sure, it sold for 6 shillings There are no motorways on it, but on the London map the Blackwall tunnel is marked, as is Croydon, and Hendon aerodromes. and the Wimbledon-Earls Court District lineis underground (it used to be BR at some point).
  • SAAB - Aurora Tyres - anyone had any problems with them? 4 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Just asking for input from other folks. In March this year our Saab 93 had 2 x 215 / 45R17 Aurora K10's fitted on the front. ( deleted (possible naming & shaming removed - DD) did it as part of a service and MOT - and didn't give us a choice of manufacturer - but we assumed as main dealers they would be ok).

  • Peugeot - 306 d turbo starting problems 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
hiya guys I have a problem with my 306 d turbo on S 98. The car has no glow plug light displayed on the dash at all. It has a major starting problem in mornings it just wont turn over. the starter is running but engine just wont tick over. I usually add this diesel starter spray i add in to the air intake at the front of the grill and it fires up, but a puff of white and blue smoke does burn from exhaust when it does start. i don't know what the problem is i have just done a full service on the car today as well changed the glow plugs oil air filter oil filter fuel filter as well. it just will not tick over at all if the car is cold. it does start later in the day without the spray being added but it does struggle to start usually takes 10secs. there also seems to be turbo lag on the car as well as well i have owned 2 other 306 d turbos and they seemed to be fine and pick up speed fine but this 1 has turbo lag and u really have to put the pedal to the metal to get it going, please help me guys thanks
  • 00 Mondeo 1.8 TD "chugging" at idle 10 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Certainly, the idle has always been completely even, and standing behind the car, the exhaust note has always been perfectly even. The car is starting normally, not smoky, still doing mid 40's MPG, and seems to drive just as before. Any ideas? • MB CLS AMG. Smoking tyres. Brooklands. 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
For £5 I was driven, by a MB driver, for a couple of twisty small laps in the above beast. They had an example of each AMGs except the S and the McLaren I was waiting for the SL or the SLK but just as I got to the front they had to be "rested" to cool the brakes and tyres so it was the CLS. As the driver said " it is not usual to be hustling a two ton vehicle like this" It was great value for me even if I felt the physical effects for half an hour after.
  • Dream garage with a twist 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I'll not be greedy, the 230 Kompressor is fast enough. I want to keep my licence, and I prefer the roof open on sunny days. 2. S class. Diesel for economy and less fuel stops. Maybe a driver to go with it. 3. A second hand A160. Nice high driving position, easy to park in the smallest space, and second hand to I won't cry over car park knocks and dings. 4.
  • Proton Coupe 1.8 - Been Standing 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Anyhow I've been given a bit of an opportunity to take on this car for a drink basically to get it off someone's drive, the car is a persona coupe 1.8 on a S plate, looks good, a few dinks, starts 1st turn and goes well. The problem is the car has been stood since the tax expired in October 2006, i have taken it out a few times this last month for a blast around the lanes, (yes its insured now before anyone shouts!)
  • antiroll bar link keeps failing vectra 10 May 2007 (Forum)
hi, the car in question is a vectra 01 standard 1.8. a n/s anti roll bar link started to fail because of a perished gaitor. a quick tug of the link proved there was play in the ball joint. both sides were changed. no immediate problems there and then. a couple of months later the ns started making knocking noises with steering to left or right. the gaitors on the link appeared perfectly fine and no play was detected pulling the link by hand. you could feel the link vibrating after a knock induced by the steering movement. its interesting that even with both front wheels off the ground it was still knocking. both sides were agained changed just to rule out.
  • Heater Not Hot - Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDi 9 May 2007 (Forum)
While l'm trying to identify the cause of the problem with the limp mode, there is another nigly issue that l would value peoples opinion on. The vehicle in question is a 2001 Y registered Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDi, S spec, AUY engine, with 130,000 miles on the clock, with a full service history. Since owning this car the internal heater just hasn't produced much heat. Not so much a problem this time of year, but in the middle of winter it's a bit parky!
  • Commuting into London by motorbike 3 May 2007 (Forum)
I've had my licence for 4 years, and am generally a pretty confident rider, but something about dicing with impatient/psychotic couriers and the Yummy Mummies in 4x4's fills me with dread, despite the advantages outlined above. Part of me thinks it's me building it up to be worse than it is, but I guess I'm looking for any experiences or reassurance anyone can offer.
  • Park and Ride 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
m wishing that the facilities were better. They only have 3 P&Rs and the one I use (the Portway) can take 30 mins into the city centre. It?s only the cost of city centre parking that stops me from driving right the way in. Interested to hear the views of the backroom. Are your local P&Rs any good? Under what circumstances do you/would you use them?
