Tax Disc Revenue - How is it allocated? 18 Feb 2008 (Forum)

Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1995 turbo diesel rough start 8 Jan 2008 (Forum)
hi, wonder if any of you guys can help me with this, i know these cars pretty well but seem to have ran to a dead end. basically from fully cold ie. left overnight then the car is a pig to start and when it does it smokes heavily with grey fumes for 5 minutes or so. the glow plugs have been replaced yesterday and i can confirm they definately work by putting them across a battery and they glow brightly at the tip, one was dead so it now catches first turn of the key but you need to keep the accelerater pressed down then rev the car to get it to fire properly and settle to idle, it's like a massive flat spot when you first start it which makes me suspect it's suffer from fuel drain back overnight, priming the bulb doesn't make much difference and ive replaced the leak of pipes and fuel filter seal as they are the most common points of air ingress. ive measured the glow plug feed whilst running and it stays more or less at 13.4 volts for circa 3 minutes then the relay switch's off so im ruling that out. having read the xantia thread that's running at the minute it could be exhaust valve clearences but id have thought this would affect more than just the very 1st start of the day, you can start the car leave it to idle for 5 minutes (thermostat still closed so don't really suspect you could say it's warmed up) stop it and it restarts fine with no smoke, the cold start waxstat is taught when cold and goes slack as it warms so suspect it works, ive also tried removing the waxstat wire and fully adjusting the arm on the bosch pump by levering with a screwdriver so it is definately in the cold start position and again it has no effect, so now im at a loss to explain what's happening, so all help would be gratefully received. -
Audi A4 2.6 idle control problem 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
This seems to give a temporary cure for a few 1000 miles. Many full services- inc. air filter, plugs etc. Fuel system / injector cleaner additive in the fuel tank a couple of times. So- is this an inherent design issue, maybe explaining why the 2.6 engine was dropped in 1998, or is there something I have missed? -
Hondadealers,High Expectations? 11 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I was asked to return the car and they would change it for me plus reimburse me for the £37 of petrol that I had put in the Accord. All went reasonably well, except a twenty minute wait while fuel (£20) was put in the new car. I was given to understand that the remaining £17 re? fuel would be knocked of the bill but it was not I?m sorry for the long post but does this seem indicative of a fall in main dealer standards or am I just expecting too much when my trade was worth over £1300 to the dealership. -
What to buy? 29 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Ditto the Primera. I'd like a Subaru, probably the most reliable of the lotI like the flat four engine, but fuel consumption is a bit high. I've not driven any of these cars yet and I won't have time to test examples of them all. I have driven late 90's Vectras and Astras and hated them with a vengeance, so that gives you an idea of what I don't like.I'm also happy with the idea of a high-mile but newer car.So over to the Back Room... what can I expect for my money? -
Diesel - The clean alternative? 15 Sep 2002 (Forum)
The 'weight of evidence' conclusions on the health risks of diesel exhaust emissions are the second major health scare for the fuel in just over three months, but are the first to be so direct about the potential health effects." All change for the emissions based car tax then? -
Oil labelling explained 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
A = Petrol, B = Diesel and C = Catalyst compatible or low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur). Unlike API the ACEA specs are split into performance/application catagories as follows: A1 Fuel economy petrol A2 Standard performance level (now obsolete) A3 High performance and/or extended drain A4 Reserved for future use in certain direct injection engines A5 Combines A1 fuel economy with A3 performance B1 Fuel economy diesel B2 Standard performance level (now obsolete) B3 High performance and/or extended drain B4 For direct injection car diesel engines B5 Combines B1 fuel economy with B3/B4 performance C1-04 Petrol and Light duty Diesel engines, based on A5/B5-04 low SAPS, two way catalyst compatible. -
BMW 5 Series F11 - BMW second hand issues 23 Feb 2015 (Forum)
She said that was unacceptable and she would call Matthew out to speak with me, but not to tell anyone it was her suggestion. Matthew came out and apologised and accompanied me to the fuel station where he put £25 worth of fuel in. I returned to the garage and dropped him off returning the 60 miles home. Needless to say I was disappointed that a vehicle would be handed over with absolutely no fuel in. -
Bargain of the day 6 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I can get a sensible mileage 4yr old big battery 62kwh example from Cinch for around £11k or a private sale 40kwh car for much less. It is tempting despite the £3k loss I’d take on the Merc. I’d save around £2k a year on fuel. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202412287582428 -

Citroen C3 Picasso - Engine fault- diagnostics report 1 Feb 2024 (Forum)
We have had a diagnostics report done which has come back with the following- error code p2244 mixture in the circuit imtegral circuit for linking in of sensor faulty. Error code- p0003 fuel flow regulator Error code - p0245 fixed geomentry turbo control Error code - p2426 control of the EGR exchanger bypass. Top chain which runs the cams seems as if the chain has slipped or has a mechanical fault resulting in the car not starting. -
Mazda 3 - Mazda3 Trip Computer (?) problem 23 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Hi Everyone, I have a 2007 Mazda3 BK, 1.6 gasoline, has around 190k km, and I have a problem with the trip computer: the average speed almost always stays the same, around 58-59 km/h, even when I drive the motorway for hours with 130 km/h. The more interesting thing is the current fuel consumption is jumping all around, varying extremely: in one second it shows e.g. 2 l / 100 km, the next second 34 l / 100 km. However, when I press the gas and keep it on a constant level, this jumping stops and stabilises on a level, which may or may not be accurate. -

2008 Peugeot 308 1.6 / 2016 Fiat 500x 1.4T petrol - MPG better driving north? 16 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Both journeys start about 7pm on M25 / A46. My question is: Does anyone have an explanation for my fuel consumption being better on the south to north journey. The difference for both cars is only about 2 mpg but the south to north is always better. As a matter of interest the Peugeot gave better overall mpg than the Fiat by a couple of mpg. -
Used City Car Dilemma 4 Apr 2022 (Forum)
With the used car market prices at high levels currently due to micro-chip shortage, brexit and covid manufacturing delays on new cars, do I spend say 10-12k on a half decent car to use for a few years or do I spend a much lower amount say 7-8k on an older car so if market prices drop again in the next 6-12 months then I don't lose as much in depreciation. With high fuel prices and a significant increase in the cost of living, I'm worried that if I spend more now then the car will lose a large proportion of it's value in no time at all. I'd welcome some advice. Thanks -
Keep older gti or not 2 Jul 2021 (Forum)
So wondering whether we should stick with such an iconic car,(already paid for £1500) brave the fuel and running costs or sell it and get and more modern (2010 upwards £2500+) probably boring Japanese car such as a mazda/Toyota with smaller engine (but good enough for motorway) Sounds like an easy decision but at least for us it seems difficult Thanks -
Petrol engine very high rev at UK speed limit why? 30 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I can't believe the rev on petrol, it seems far too much! Why are they doing that low gear ratio instead of high ratio, it would be save a lot on fuel. -
Nissan Primastar 2.0 dci - Stutter then puff of black smoke 16 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Hope someone can point me in the right direction 2006 2.0 dci 115 Vivaro. Was running rough and jerking about. I swapped out the fuel filter as I don't know when that was changed as only had the van a year. I also swapped out the boost solenoid as it was making odd noises and rattled. At the same time I checked the vacuum hose from the solenoid to the turbo to make sure that was not leaking, kept a vacuum nicely. -
Any? - Peaking Capacitor Spark Plugs 7 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Plugs with an internal capacitance claimed to give higher energy better timed spark. Fairly restrained pitch. Unsubstantiated claims for power and fuel economy, but that’s pretty much industry standard, so not necessarily diagnostic of BS. https://pulstar.com/how-it-works/ Spark looks more energetic but one cant assess visually its duration or ignition efficiency, Downsides might include lower plug life, and electrical interference, but there are no electronics on my car... -
Vauxhall Zafira b 1.6 - Minor Co emissions failure 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Passed at idle and had 0.39 and 0.44 at 1st and 2nd fast idle. What do you think? I can't find any vac leaks. My Long Term Fuel Trim reaches up to 7% which from what I have researched isn't excessive. I can't feel any exhaust or manifold leaks either. Do you think the service and taking it to the test station hot will pass it?
