  • Smoking Vectra 19 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Although it now starts up and idles ok, after driven for about 5 miles blue smoke suddenly starts to pour from the exhaust. I have left it running in the driveway for over a half an hour and although a little smoky it will not seem to replicate the road test? Any advice on a low cost cure would be appreciated.
  • Urgent Focus engine mgnt light question? 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)

Will disconnnecting the battery reset it? Any other ideas? Many thanks.
  • Peugeot 406 door seals/rubbers 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Can anyone advise on how to replace the door seals on a 406 (HDI saloon 2000 X). Specifically, it's the window seals outside the car and the seal at the bottom of the doors that runs from front to back. The front window seals have a screw inside the door - just undo this screw and pull the seal out? The bottom seal looks like it has little snap-in fittings but I don't want to pull it off just in case!
  • Bleeding brakes 1.6 ZM Engine (BJ) 3 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Can someone tell me, when bleeding brakes does the engine have to be switched on to keep the ABS pump running. Or do you just bleed the brakes the normal way using two persons. It's just that I changed the brake fluid and now the pedel goes down a lot. Pumping makes it return to where it use to be. Also can someone tell me if this car as a Cabin Filter( Pollen Filter) if so where is it fitted.
  • Glow plugs Mondeo 18 Jun 2006 (Forum)
On starting from cold the engine seems lumpy for 5-10 secs and there seems more smoke than usual. On starting from warm there is no problem. At all other times the engine runs fine. How do I determine which plug(s) may be faulty? Once determined is it easy to replace them and do I need any special tools and are there any special precautions or tips anyone can offer? Thanks in anticipation.
  • charisma gdi 1.8 fuel injection 3 May 2006 (Forum)
Now ive heard that this will work but thought id run past you guys to see if its safe to do. To clear my rough idling problem (due to carbon build up) if i disconnect the pipe from the air box to the throtle body after the mass air flow sensor and spray some carb/injector spray down there at a medium to highish revs range will that clear most of the build up or at least the butterfly valve in the throttle body.
  • Compressor Help 24 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hi the motor on my air compressor has given up the ghost, it is a single phase 0.75bhp 1750rpm motor, i have been offered a single phase 0.5bhp 2850 motor, i know i can gear down the rpm through using different size pulleys, my question is will using a underpowered motor just mean that it will take longer to fill the receiver or is there something else involved? it has a 200ltr receiver so i don't think it's going to run out on me during use just take longer to fill cheers chris
  • Honda Jazz Service 19 Mar 2006 (Forum)
No worries about affecting the value of the car as I envisage it staying with someone in the family as a kind of heirloom until it dies, as it is so practical and cheap to run. However this is a car with 8 sparkplugs and needs valve clearances checked at this service. Anyone had a Jazz or other Honda serviced by an independent? Any problems? And a question for the professionals here, do you have access to technical data on a Jazz, eg valve clearances, torque settings etc?
  • Pedestrian casualties 28 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Why then,if a pedestrian, adult or child, whether on drugs, drunk on the phone or just stupid or actually wants to kill themselves, runs into,or steps off the pavement, into the path of my rapidly moving, but not speeding car, even if they knew I wouldn't be physically able to stop in time and I was proceeding as carefully as can be expected with regard to traffic flow etc.
  • Emissions Quick Fix - 1999 VW Golf 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
The garage are claiming that the problem is that there is some oil getting into the system ('car is running a bit smokey'). and that the stuff the replaced is 100%. Pulling hair out trying to get this resolved. Any advice?
  • passat gearbox 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
This lovely car has really stupid gearing as it pulls fifth gear at less than 30mph and starts to get noisy at 60mph corresponding to 3000 revs. Does anyone know if the passat (or golf or vento) diesel gearbox would fit? I did run a Vento diesel (75hp) with much better gearing but the clutch was cable operated (very heavy) whereas my passat has a hydraulic operation. Any tips would be most welcome. Allan Crossley
  • Focus water leak, interior 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I was horrified to find the drivers-side front and rear footwells are saturated. I can't find water running in from the tailgate, but can't find any from under the dash area either. Any clues as to common faults? (I'm struggling because it's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home) Thanks.
  • Cat damage 29 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I am trying to ascertain the cause of damage to a 6 month old catalytic converter. The car began running badly and was driven gently back to base - approx 1 mile. At which point it was revved very hard by a '3rd party'to try to drive it onto a ramp. Black smoke ensued at that point. The problem turned out to be HT leads, causing poor ignition.
  • Omega brake pad warning - cause? 21 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Just collected it, and he hasn't changed anything as all pads had at least 1/3rd left on them. What causes it to display the Brake Pads warning? (It isn't a wire running through the pads themselves apparently). Is this likely to be a spurious display? Should I worry?
  • Computer Related Questions - Volume 63 31 Aug 2005 (Forum)
And when I double click on it to open it, I get a message telling me that "Windows cannot open this file" and that it needs to know what program created it. (I run XP by the way). So I manually select Adobe Acrobat from a list of programs, and it opens fine. So - why doesn't Windows recognise that this is a pdf file?
  • Peugeot 406 cooling fans 18 Aug 2005 (Forum)
My 1998 2.1td was, and still is running warmer than usual. I was advised that one of the fans was past its use by date and a new one has been fitted. Now, as far as I can tell only this fan is coming on and it sounds very noisy. Please can anyone tell me 1)If both fans should come on together and at what temperature. 2)Or is one fan only for the A/c 3)Do they have two speeds.
  • Jeep Cherokee 4.0 SE Limited Auto, ok? 6 Aug 2005 (Forum)
It's covered 74K and is it A1 condition. It's been fully serviced from new at a Jeep dealer and was converted to run on LPG by an approved installer in 2000 (this being one reason for buying it). I wondering if anyone has anything that I should watch out for on Jeep or any opinions of them before I go ahead. Thanks Paul
  • 406 head gasket failure 1 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Being a V6, will the failure be in just one bank of cylinders and if so am I looking at an easier fix or a more complicated fix? Is this a traumatic failure for an angine or a run of the mill thing? Many thanks Dave
