Is this right, or was it just going through the motions for the cameras? If anyone else saw the programme, it was the guy who had recently run out of petrol and who eventually blew just under the limit.

  • any good car films? 24 Aug 2009 (Forum)
i'm looking to start a collection of family suitable car related films to play to the kids in the coach on the run up to heatrow. i've got the italian job, original, not the one of the same name. the kids like it, as do i. the original french 'taxi' has a bit of nudity so might not be suitable. 'blues brothers' has swearing, still a very good film with great music. the new 'dukes of hazzard' was very wooden and cheesey.

  • Unleaded petrol - 91 RON? 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Should I be seeking out the sole pump on each forecourt that pumps 95 RON super unleaded, or can I presume that all petrol cars in Oz are built/tuned for the rougher stuff? Am I mis-fuelling?! Car runs OK - as well as you'd expect a 1.8 slushmatic to perform anyway. Handbook is useless... TIA,

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2002 HDi Torsion Bar 20 Apr 2009 (Forum)
My 2002 hdi meridian is riding low on the rear and the o/s inner tyre almost touches the inner arch I'm running on 195 55 15's so nothing too unusual and there's reasonable clearence on the n/s. Kwik fit 'think' it's got and adjustable spline system? or an expensive repair. There's no rumbles or knocking and it rides just clear of the bump stop but sits lower on o/s.
  • Anson Engine museum 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
At the weekend several of these were demonstrated, a number requiring propane blowtorching to pre-heat before starting, some engines are on loan from the Science Museum and Birmingham Museum, there are also sectioned models, lots of bits and pieces and documents on the history of Gardner, Mirrlees etc. Its open most weekends from now and engines are likely to be running, check the website for how to find it.
  • Diesel cars can be more expensive than petrol 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
FYI, a tabloid today is running a prominent story comparing diesel costs with petrol costs when buying and owning a car. The article highlights the extra purchase price, repair bills and takes several cars and points out that, for example, at 10,000 miles per year it would take 24 years miles to break even for the additional cost of diesel over petrol, etc, etc.
  • Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - Seat belt safety recall 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Car owners are being told to bring their vehicles in after the problem was identified on a component known as a "seat belt pretensioner" which locks the belt in place. But it was discovered that this part could heat up and set a foam insulating pad alight, running the risk of a fire in a high-speed head-on crash.

  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 97 1.9 TD cooling fan won't stop 14 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The Missus noticed this at 3.00 this afternoon, when she got out and locked the car. Was still running when I got home at 8 !! The battery is almost flat and the only way to stop the fan was to disconnect the battery. Have placed the battery on charge overnight and shown her how to disconnect the battery (clever screw thingies) but I need to find a solution tomorrow afternoon.
