  • Tricky AA call centre 10 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Got a renewal through the post saying that my renewal payment was due and automatic. I did not authorize automatic payment unless it was tucked away in small print. I called  their 0800 number to get that stopped and found that if you press for that request you are told the lines are busy and call back later ...click!

  • Does anybody not enjoy driving manuals? 21 May 2018 (Forum)
I’ve always had a manual van but an automatic car. Recently swapped car and ended up with a manual as it was a good deal and I still really like the car but it is irritating me that I didn’t find another automatic. Hoping I forget about the pleasure of driving an auto or I can’t see me buying a manual car again.

  • Focus MK2 sized car wanted - automatic 7 Dec 2021 (Forum)
It's worth less than that and has now served its purpose. He is looking for a reliable automatic car no larger than a MK2 Focus, capable of occasionally carrying 4 adults, with a budget up to 6000 pounds. Annual mileage is no more than 5 - 6,000, most journeys are local but it would need do a journey of around 300 miles in comfort.
  • Automatic car with EPB advice please 8 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Hi there. I'd like recommendations for my next car please? I'm looking for an automatic estate car with an electronic parking brake.  I have become disabled this past year and no longer have the strength to use a handbrake or clutch.  It also needs to be an estate so my electric wheelchair will fit in the boot.
  • Golf MK7 or Leon TSi - VAG automatic best second hand option? 22 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I'm conscious of some of the supposed risks in this choice.  So back ground assumptions - vaguely 9 - 10k price point, FSH, newer than 2013, automatic, sat nav, we'll keep it for 7 years & do 40k - choices Golf MK7 1.4 TSI, Leon 1.8 TSI, Leon/Golf 1.2 TSi.  For similar money what would you consider to be the less risky option, eg. 2013 1.4 Golf with 40k or 2018 1.4 Golf with 100k or 1.8 Leon with 80k or 1.2 Leon with 40k?
  • Mercedes 220 diesel - Dual clutch transmission 31 May 2016 (Forum)
I have a Mercedes 220 diesel automatic, which is my first car with DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Mercedes has a “Hold” position, which disengages the transmission by an additional short stab on the footbrake after stopping and allows the foot to be taken off the brake pedal with the engine running, rather like neutral position on a manual gearbox.
  • Jaguar S-type 2.5 v6 - Automatic gearbox jokts 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I have just bought a 03 plate s-type with 130k on the clock, everything seemed fine for around 100 miles but on the way home from work today as I accelerated joining the motor way from around 20-40mph it started to jolt quite badly, the traction control light blinked and it felt like I slid across the road, not sure weather this was just the jolting or sliding, I rang the garage I bought the car from and all they said is that it needs to warm up? This is the first automatic car I have ever owned, can you please tell me weather this is a common problem with older gearboxes and requires a new one or is there an easy fix? Your help is greatly appreciated Alex
  • Vauxhall Omega - Vauxhall Omega 2.2 CD Auto Gearbox Problem 3 Dec 2011 (Forum)
On top of that, if I rest my hand on the selector, I can feel a slight movement to and froe  through the selector lever when accelerating and decelerating as if it were a manual and I've never known this having owned many automatics. Very occasionally, I will lose drive altogether for a few seconds as if I'd pressed an imaginary clutch pedal. I have heard that this is not an unknown problem on larger engined Vauxhall automatics.
  • Economical Automatic for high motorway mileage 15 May 2011 (Forum)
I will be averaging about 20,000 miles an year in the foreseeable future commuting to work on the motorway (70 miles round trip). Preferably need an automatic as left knee is dodgy post surgery. Current car is a 54 plate Honda Jazz, which is fine apart from being noisy and unrefined on the motorway and a manual. My priorities are bullet proof reliability (being a time-strapped doctor), low running costs (given the high mileage) and comfort on the motorway.
