Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 05 3.0 Poor running and rough gearchange 3 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I'm having a couple of problems with the C5, which may be related. It's been in to the dealers recently after I complained of poor shifting on the autobox,... -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 98 3.3 problems starting car 28 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Please help we have been experiencing problems with our automatic petrol 3.3 Chysler Grand Voyager and are up againt the wall after running out of solutions. When you put in the key in the ignition the information centre lights come on and the car starts but none of the displays within the priemium instrument cluster work and the car dies after a few seconds the alarm light flashes and whilst on holiday this week it stayed on for 3 days. -
I'm after inspiration for a new (to us) car 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
So, with great regret, the Beetle will be replaced with a modern Euro (or Jap) box. This is where we have no idea what we want, or need. I run an Alfa 156 2.4JTD Sportwagen, which I would expect to be able to cope with pushchairs etc. Initial thoughts were on a Grande Punto 5 door, probably in diesel form with a 30 mile each way commute in mind. -
Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - 1.4 tsi SE / dsg first impressions 10 Mar 2009 (Forum)
The car has bulb type running lights. Wind noise is very low. Some road noise, but only because the rest of the noises are quiet. Rear seat backrest only folds for large loads. The SE model gets no front fogs, which seems a bit mean, but does get cruise, auto lights & wipers. -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.6 cold start/cooling fan on problem 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have an all of a sudden combined problem with our 'K' series 400.When I switch off the engine the cooling fan now continues to run for up to 20 mins.,even though the gauge shows a typically normal temperature(no bubbles,no oil in expansion tank etc).Secondly, the car has become difficult to start when the engine is cold.Once warmed up it runs fine.I have given a bit of thought to the possible cause and wondered if anyone could give their thoughts. -
HJ approves of daylight fog lights!!!! (confused) 3 Dec 2008 (Forum)
They are quite often the brightest lights on a car and they do indeed dazzle, so why HJ thinks they are suitable for use as 'Daylight Running Lights' is beyond me. I also thought it was against the law to use fog lights when it wasn't foggy? The highway code states so and the police can fine those who do so; in the past my local city (Coventry) has even run a couple of campaigns stopping drivers and fining them for their use. -
Renault Espace (1985 - 1997) - 1994 2.0 (Petrol) MOT Emissions Failure 4 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Second test: Fast idle CO - 0.58 Fail HC - 32 pass Lambda - 1.01 pass The tester was very helpful and didn't log into VOSA pc for MOT retest, just did the gas test to preserve my free retest for next week. Tried it without air filter to try to make it run leaner, but no good. No leaks from exhaust. Car was nice and hot before both tests. Tax has run out today, so I SORN'd the car and is on mates drive to try and repair it. I'm wondering whether to change the CAT? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 Temp gauge into red, fan running constant 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi All, This is my first post on this forum but I've read through many in my search for suggestions to an "overheating" problem with my petrol Focus.... -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 1999 2.0 coolant mystery! 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hey all, I've got something here that I can't quite get my head round. It looks like i've got a leak on my 1999 Astravan. The Engine started running very hot yesterday so I stopped, let it cool, checked the expansion tank and it was empty. Judging by the amount it took it had all gone. I checked the oil cap, the exhaust and for bubbles in the expansion tank and no sign that the HG was about to depart, so tentatively ruled that out. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 1.9 Swapping engines TURBO 1.9 306 XtDt 3 Jun 2008 (Forum)
So can I regress one step and fit an XUD9TE/L D8A? It is NO CAT so do i have to remove the CAT from the car (legal?) or run with the cat and hope the engine runs OK? What is best injection Lucas or Bosche? What is the preferred engine to swap in? D8A or DHY? I read that the DHY has crankshaft failures and i suspect the car I want to buy has suffered something like that, it has broken Camshaft at least which has lifted the camshaft off the end post. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2004 1.6 - engine weak! 7 May 2008 (Forum)
Problem A: Engine cold I start my 3200-mile 1.6 04 Focus on a cold day and it sounds like it is running on only 3 cylinders, as if one is running weakly. It drags itself along the road... The colder the day the worse it behaves, and the worse it sounds. This clears up when warm and sounds and drives 'normal'. -
Letter to my MP about motor tax. 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The rises in fuel duty and car tax, which have been far above inflation, have cause my wife and I great hardship. We both work and both have to run cars to get to work, by working we contribute income tax and national insurance to the government. I fear that the elevated level of fuel prices and car tax will mean it is no longer financially viable for us to run cars. -
What fuel consumption gaffs/efforts have you made 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
(sold after 87,000 miles after losing me a fortune in mileage claims) 4) Its replacement, the 1.6 petrol auto Maestro that eventually got down to 23mpg on long runs as its main jet wore due to the rubbing needle. Sold in desperation as it needed leaded petrol too. 5) The saviour of my finances, in the early 90`s recession, the new Maestro Clubman D, that could get 60MPG, drew max car allowance and ran for 130,000 miles. -
Fuel efficiency - when to switch 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My Volvo S80 2.5T 53 reg, which I bought to do 4,000 miles/year (for 7k last April), may soon be doing an additional 17,000 miles/year through a work change I get about 23mpg on my usual short runs, and I guess I might get about 28mpg on the work run. (this is below the official figures (probably because of my driving style) which is 30.7mpg combined). So I get through 175 gallons of unleaded at the moment, and would need to add another 600 gallons to this. -
Servicing: mileage or time? 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
(When it's probably going to be time for a new cambelt besides.) This is my first experience of running a car to this sort of age or mileage, so I'd be glad of the BR's thoughts on what to do for t' best. -
Proper 4x4s 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Budget - hmm, main car: upto £15K ish, second car: upto £7.5/8K So, my options:- Hyundai Terracan - had one, liked it. Will go anywhere, fairly cheap to run and warranty still valid for a couple of years at least. However, only 25-28mpg average (the lower figure on motorway runs) Jeep Patriot - bit smaller than the Terra. However is trail rated. Can wade at the same depth as the Terracan (we have a Ford just up the road from us). -
Saxo 1.4 Petrol - Power cut outs 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
But most of the time no the rev's are higher than they should and it chuckles and cuts out if I put my foot on the gas. Also every so often my cut can cut out, not the engine that still runs, by my gas. Like if im doing 60 for example, and I put my foot down it could even cut out so its going down in fuel to the engine instead of going up like it should, then it kicks in and comes back. -
Rover 418 Steering Shake 13 May 2007 (Forum)
The car recently passed an MOT and no mention was made of this movement and the tester is a harsh one where road safety is concerned. I've no way of testing if the discs are running 'true' and I wondered if anyone could suggest my next course of action. Thanks in advance for any assistance. -
Mondeo head gasket 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
After cleaning the Idle Speed Control Valve and the MAF Sensor (which the main dealer disconnected) the idle problem seems to be resolved... however... The car started running hot and I noticed that there was a leak in the area of the water pump. A local garage has now replaced the water pump, along with the cam belt and tensioners, auxillary belt (and completed an oil change whilst they were in there!)... -
Ford Mondeo 1995 idle speed control 28 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Can anyone tell me how good the diagnostic kit is at a main dealer and therefore how likely it is that the part I need is the Idle Speed Control Valve? Also, if it is this, is £120 too much to pay? Finally, what is the implications of running the car without the MAF Sensor connected? It seems to run ok, but I would assume that thew ECU will eventually "learn" this and alter the way the car generates power? Any thoughts would be very much appreciated!
