  • any - driving in bus lane penalty charge notice 2 Oct 2018 (Forum)
does anyone actually know the law on this as i have read a few posts that differ from others....cheers  ;)   Another thing connected ...this "offence" occured on the same day as i bought the car and i cannot be absolutely sure what time i bought the car,i think it was probably me driving at the time (photo evidence is shown) but the old owners dad did drive me around to show me how it went....... i did have this discussion with a friend of mine and we agreed that the time of sale really should be stated on the log book to stop this very thing happening.
  • Ford Focus MK2 - Timing belt - to change or not change? 11 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I have a Ford Focus MK2 1.6 petrol 74KW 100PS and have been told by a Ford dealer that my timing belt needs done after 8 years or 100,000 miles. My car has recently became 8 years old (end of July 2018) but has only just done under 69,000. I bought the car April 2017 when it had 47,500 miles on the clock so am wondering if the timing belt will need done?
  • Clarke 4000 Jumpstart (part number 6240030) 12 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Clarke Jumpstart 4000, a few months old, only used once to start a car, and once to inflte a matress via the 12V socket; always kept on trickle charge, kept in the house. Anyone have one who can answer this for me please? Two queries: 1.
  • Insurance & Selling Damaged Motor 28 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Greetings all One of our better neighbours has ended up with a damaged car and a private settlement, and wants to get shot of the car. Insurance appears not to have been involved, and during a recent conversation the subject of getting rid of it came up. My feeling is that the motor would be declared a write-off, as it has a shredded front corner - wing, light cluster, bumper are all dead, bit of minor damage on the bonnet, it's ten years old and worth about £2k.
  • 1972 MGB GT 1.8 - Buying a 1972 MGB GT 22 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Dear Sir, Recently I found that an old friend was going to sell a 1972 MGB GT, which had been lovingly cared for all its life and was now under its own cover inside a garage. (Two owners from new. Present owner has had it for 40+years)   It is a car I'd always admired, but I cannot afford the present asking price of £10,000.

  • Citroen C5 Estate 2.2 HDi (2001) - 'Tailgate open' warning 23 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Hi all -- first time posting on this site and really hoping someone else has managed to solve this problem! I've had this car since it was 6 months old and it's actually been amazingly good apart from odd Citroen-style electrical niggles. The current one is driving me mad: it often detects an open tailgate, even when it is definitely shut, and sounds the warning alarm.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2003 1.4 Zetec - front suspension 8 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I suspect it might be this or a wishbone snapped. It was driving find before trying to move it from the garage. I know some cars have failed springs but thought it only made them sag a few inches. This looks like the old Mini hydralastic failure when the whole car drops down.
  • x type 2005 sports model 2l - Fix or Sell xtype 2005. New to forum 27 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The car has done 139K miles. Do I repair or sell? Any advice greatly welcome.
  • Passat B5.5 front balljoints - costly! 11 Jun 2015 (Forum)
The garage tells me they are seeing a LOT of 4 / 5 year old Passats with this problem, and it's a right pig of a job. I've also seen a couple of posts both here and on UKPassats about this, it seems to be an Achilles heel on these cars So if you're looking to buy one, ask if it's already had the ball joints done!
  • Honda FRV - Honda FRV popping out of some gears 12 May 2015 (Forum)
The car has done about 75k miles and is 6 years old. Thanks.
  • To diesel or not to diesel, that is the question 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I am aware of the issues surrounding modern diesels and would like to stick to petrol, but surely these new super efficient petrols will also suffer from issues due to the complexity of the engines? Some will point me towards VW's 1.4 TSI engine, but I don't like any of their cars so that's a no go really.  I would like to stick to Japanese if I can. Is there a petrol car of around 150bhp which anyone can recommend?  I would like to see economy in the mid to late 40's if I can
  • Toyota Corolla Saloon - Possible engine re-build or cylinder replacement 25 May 2014 (Forum)
Or replacement engine to be fitted, I'm not in the position to buy another car, but under the £1000 mark surley some thing can be done and where the best places to go to get this sort of work carried out and recommended in kent essex london area, please!  I know some people would say get another car, but this one has been so realiable for 4 years and I dont want to end up with a new problems getting a cheap banger!
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - Would diesel engine wear show in the MOT smoke tes 29 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I've spotted a VW Golf E SDI I like. It looks reasonably well cared for, and only about 70000 miles for a car over 10 years old. Unfortunately the service history is a bit patchy. The general condition of the car suggests the receipts were lost or not filed rather than the servicing was never done, however, I'm slightly wary in case it's the latter.
  • Yaris/Mazda 2/Hyundai and more - New supermini confused 6 Sep 2013 (Forum)
The only car I am not sure about is the jazz, which seemed quite a firm ride. We have many pot holes around here! I wanted to like it as reliability is key. The new yaris is bigger than my old one, also higher up the price list.
  • Large Family Estate Recommendations 16 May 2013 (Forum)
I'm looking for a large family estate with a budget of under £12K. It needs to accomodate the wife and 3 children plus associated luggage. I'd like the car to handle well and not be too sluggish as I'm currently driving a 03 Mondeo hatch 2L 136PSI TDCi  I'd ideally like to buy 2 to 3 years old with max of 60,000 on the clock. I was looking at either a Mazda 6 or Mondeo diesel but I'm concerned about the DPF.
  • Ford Focus - Ford Focus 2 facelift soundproofing 19 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Can please someone tell me how it compares to the previous model in this regard? Or maybe someone who owns a Focus 2 facelift can share his impressions on the quietness of the car? This may not be a serious issue for most of the people, but for me not having a quite car at average speed would be a deal breaker and unfortunately at this time I don't have the posibility to drive one and see for myself how good it is compared to the old one.
  • Toyota Yaris - Engine warning light - P0420 code 4 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I don't know if it is relevant but nearly 2 weeks ago I had a new exhaust manifold fitted as the old one had cracked. Might it be either debris from this in the system or the sensor having been damaged or dislodged? Is it worth taking the car back to the garage that did the work for them to check?
  • Any - Beware newer 'fully synthetics' with older engines 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I was ding some research into oil and what to get for my car when I stumbled by the whole zinc/phosphorus issue. If your car has flap tappets then it is wise to stick to an oil higher in ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl-Dithio-Phosphate) - and not the newer synthetics which only have a fraction of the older oil (to preserve CAT life).
