  • Buying "nearly new" 8 May 2007 (Forum)
A theoretical rule for changing cars is buy at two years old and sell at five years. My daughter has a five year old Honda Civic and want a Mini. Checking the main dealers sites a two year old mini seem near enough the price of a new one, allowing for the price of the "extras". A one series BMW cost less when two years old! Logically one sells privately and then negotiates.

  • Mini Cooper - Help urgently needed, please =( 10 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Hello, I'm new and hoping you lovely people could offer me some advice on a recent Mini Cooper 54 I've just purchased, costing £6,299: I bought the car on finance from a small dealer on Saturday. It went for a service on the Monday-was taken by the dealer to Mini, and they discovered a slight leak of gearbox oil coming from passenger side driveshaft.
  • Insurance for young driver. Chipped MINI 9 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Yea, im definitely taking the Uni route now. Thanks for the advice everyone. In answer to your question Lee, I did opt for the Mini in the end :D I went for an all black mini one with quite a few extra\'s - went for sports seats, red and silver interior, 17inch s spoke alloys, air con, sports suspension, salt pack, cooper chrome pack, Cooper S steering wheel, etc..have recently added a kenwood stereo and also a Cooper S spoiler - oh, and some chromed indicator panels.
  • Mini Cooper S Coupe - Second hand car problems from purchase 30 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Would your advice be to reject the vehicle as I am feeling worried something has happened in its short life which is not surfacing? MINI COOPER S COUPE YE12GCY This letter is to complain about service I have received from Mini Crewe following the purchase of a nearly new Mini Cooper S Coupe and to explain that I expect Mini Crewe to provide appropriate redress under the SoGA 1994 and the SoGC regulations 2002 under which you are legally obliged to sort out the problems due to the vehicle being of unsatisfactory quality.
  • Fun weekend car - suggestions? 30 Jul 2024 (Forum)
The criteria is preferably automatic, good to drive and powerful enough to have a bit of performance though doesn't have to be a licence loser. Any thoughts on the Mini and other alternatives? Budget up to £20k.
  • Yaris Hybrid/Mini/Jazz/Zoe/ID4! - Quality Small Hatchback - Which One? ?? 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I love the quality and efficiency of the post 2020 Yaris Hybrid, the creativity of Honda Jazz Hybrid, and the branding/looks of the Mini's (not Countryman!).   I quite liked the looks of the EV Zoe and possible ID4, but it seems the latest Yaris power train is capable to compete against these? What are your thoughts?  My reasoning for these cars I'm reviewing are I drive around two under 12's for school runs and activities, 80% is urban short distant driving.
  • MINI Countryman - 15k over oil service - engine problems? 18 Mar 2018 (Forum)
My partner had her Mini Countryman serviced and MOT’d last year, at three years old. It was booked in for a three year service under the service plan, but it turns out this wasn’t done (we didn’t spot this as the service light had been turned off, and there was a bunch of other work undertaken which we were more focussed on, but that’s a different cash horror story).
  • Bleeding brakes on a Classic Mini 22 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Further pipe was replaced by someone else and brakes supposedly bleed again but 5 months of sitting in the garage they seem to be spongy again. It?s a 1980 Mini with drums at the rear and disks at the front.

  • Fiat/Hundai - small automatic high ground clearance car 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I recently moved to the country and traded my Mini Cooper auto for a Jimny auto as the Mini was too low for the country lanes.  However, I am not entirely happy with the Jimny and am not certain that I need a 4wd but rather a car with high ground clearance.
  • What is your biggest bodge? 25 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I offer two, but I am sure that in the big wide world they are minor. "Replaced" door sills on a Wolseley 6/80 with 2 x 2 timber. My early Mini had a gearlever that dissapeared at about 45 degrees into the gearbox. Mini developed the knack of jumping out of third gear on the over-run. Solution - a plate with a hook attached to the heater housing that captured the gear lever when put into third.

  • Car Spotting 2 Nov 2009 (Forum)
(Google street view). Noticed quite a few old Volvo's, and a sad looking VW Beetle outside 1180 7th street. A new Mini outside of 1052 Dauphine street, and an old Mini outside of 4030 Royal street. A tidy looking SWB Landrover at 634 Louisa street and a rather untidy looking campervan at 854 4th street I suppose spares must be available for the old european stuff, or do they 'make do and mend'
  • Efficient petrol engines - suggestions? 1 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'll kick off with: Honda Jazz - a hard worked 1339 cc engine but people seem to get mid to high 40s with ease New (08 model) Mini - SWMBO's Cooper does 40 mpg in town and 46 on a long run, about 5 mpg better than the'06 Mini One she had before.
  • PSA/Ford 1.6 HDI 20 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Seeing that this engine is now available in the new new MINI made me think, this must be about the most widely available engine these days, knocking previous favourites (various VAG lumps and A-series) into a cocked hat. Let's see now: BMW MINI Citroen C4 Citroen C5 Ford Fiesta Ford Fusion Ford Focus Ford Mondeo Mazda 3 Peugeot 207 Peugeot 307 Peugeot 407 Volvo S40 Volvo V50 Can anyone think of any more?
  • Using handheld mobiles on the move 25 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'm sure this is a no-brainer but here goes, can anyone justify taking one hand off the wheel to use a mobile while driving? I live opposite a mini-roundabout and see a minimum of four drivers a day turning right while operating a mobile in their right hand!! Never mind this is illegal - how on earth can you claim to be in even partial control of a vehicle with one hand off the wheel, turning and probably about to change gear?
