• 2001 Ford Mondeo TdDi - Diesel Modeo keeps stopping 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
  My 2001 Ford Modeo 2.0 TdDi runs well for 3 or 4 miles than stops. Leaving 10 minutes it them starts again. I have had the ggarade replace all filters etc and the car has been on the computer with nothing showing. I need the car for work and the garage has drawn a blank. any ideas?

  There is no blue smoke from the exhaust,  so where is it all going?  Also, is 91000 miles excessive for a petrol engine?  The car runs just fine. What is 'high' mileage these days?

  MY GOLF HAS BEEN RUNNING LUMPY FOR A WHILE AND HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN IM SITTING STILL, THE ENGINE ROCKS. WHEN I TURN THE AIRCON ON, IT STOPS ROCKING BUT STILL FEELS A BIT LUMPY. I HAVE TRIED CLEANING THE EGR VALVE, PUTTING INJECTOR CLEANERS IN, SERVICING BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO HAVE CHANGED IT.

  After cut out it shows the P1112 fault code, and from readin through the forum it is suggested rail pressure sensor. I have replaced this with one out of a perfect running vehicle but still cutting out. Is the pressure regulator the next thing to try? any help would be apreciated.

    The Seat tech guys at the dealer where I purchased it have listened but say there is nothing untoward. The noise comes from cam belt end of the engine. Could  I safely run the engine for a few minutes without the drive belt for the alternator & aircon pump to deduce if noise comes from either of these items.?
• vauxhall vectra - car not starting/ fuel pump 5 May 2011 (Forum)
  car is 2l turbo, ran out of petrol recently and is now not starting, was blowing black air at frirst then running fine but only for max 7 mins. car has been in autoshop since last thursday, said was fuel pump £600, said i'd outsource it and now says that he can reprogram the original fuel pumps ecu for 350 and that should work?

   my vivaro 1.9 cdti 05,it starts ,ticks over for around 2 mins then stalls ,when i try and start again it just stalls , van was running fine  a hour befor ,recentley fiitted new turbo ,and last week put a bit of petrol in at garage ,but topped tank up with diesel ,the van ran perfect all week ,does anyone know what it could be ,maybe a clogged up catylick convertor due to turbo going and the petrol that i put in ?????????????

  Drove it from Milton Keynes to Staffs Friday (motorway), Staffs to Slough Sunday (motorway), used it for work (3 miles each way) Monday onwards and on the way in to Work Thursday the DPF warning light came on. Should they be this sensitive to short runs? And what is the point of a car built to be economical if you have to give it a blast at 2500 revs for 15 minutes every 3 days!

    When it thawed (monday), started it and then took it for a good drive, and SHE who must be obeyed to the sales, where they just happened to have a Poundstretcher and they had battery booster packs for £25,  ( halfords £50) Suddenly remembered  Short runs = battery drain. So just in case as need to be mobile for getting to work.   Happy motoring

  I don't think the X3 is part of the BMW condition based servicing system - am I right? But in any event are there any "service intervals for this or other BMWs or do you just run them - never lifting the bonnet "until the light comes on".

  Hi, my bmw diesel 2003, 92,000 miles has started to smoke excessively when I start it or on idle eg left running for a few minutes, I started it yesterday under the car porch and within 5 minutes it was unbearable and filled the house with smoke! it doesn't smoke once it's warmed up or driving at normal speeds, has anyone got any ideas what it could be?

  The last few morning when I've got in the car the gearstick has been totally stuck, somtimes it will move around in neutral but will not go into any gears untill the engine has been running for a few mins, then, suddenly it will work as normal. It was -14 *C this morning and it wasnt as bad as it was yesterday at -2 *C which is odd. Does this mean there is water in the gearbox and if so how serious is this?

  We aquired a replacement from dimplex and fiited, all the wiring was colour coded so easy to replace but the motor now runs in the other direction so the flame effect goes downwards ! weird or what ? Could it be a defective motor ? or what could be wrong ? many thanks I doc
• volkswagon polo 1.2 2002 - Battery problems 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
  My Mum's Polo has a history of flat batteries, three of them. the AA keep turning up and supplying "new" ones (I'm told). The advice she has recieved it to "leave it running on the drive for 20 minutes" this isn't any good as it upsets neigbours. My understanding is that if a car consistantly flattens batteries then it is the alternater at fault. the question then is; Do I replace the alernater?

  Hi I have a Vectra 2 litre turbo diesel. the engine loses power when the temp rises to normal running temp on tick over the engine surges took to main dealer and they told me that the fuel pump module had gone cost £200 but have to replace pump also cost £800 it did this about 12 months ago for about a fortnight then cleared and has been fine until now any ideas

    This is despite the fuel tank showing empty.  Now it has started revving madly when I drive it and attempting to run away, ie doing 30 mph in 2nd gear with no gas and jut pulling further ahead. What could be the problem? Thanks

  hi, along with my warning bulb (earlier posting) the clutch was making a bit of a racket after a long run today (idling in nuetral) but seemed quiter when i dipped the clutch pedal it doesnt slip at all when travelling so i dont suppose its the friction plate should i ignore it or get the clutch replaced and if so do the kits contain all the bits apart from the friction plate or will i need to go to a breaker for additional parts

  I have a Focus estate 1.6 zetec 55 plate, bought it in July last year and was happily getting 39mpg , now only getting 33.5 mpg..is this simply down to winter?I drive sensibly but only do 6 miles to work in morning and then back at night plus running around after kids.Would doing so little mileage really lose me 6mpg?. Any help appreciated

  noise increases with rpm and sounds like a piece of metal would in the spokes of a moving bicycle. the noise also 'runs on' after the throttle has been released when driving. i am thinking it is something to do with the turbo but would appreciate any advice on being able to pinpoint the problem.

  Can't spend more than a grand, got the wife and 2 kids to squeeze in but will mostly be used for the work run. Done a quick search through a few reviews and although I had my heart set on a P reg onwards Golf I'm undecided after Reading other reviews. Ford Focus, Honda Civic and Golf are the only ones I've cOme up with so far any recommendations or avoid lke the plague are welcome cheers
