  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 96 1.8 starts then dies after about two seconds 4 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Hello, My VW Golf Driver 1.8 has occasionally had this problem which is now constant, whereby the engine would fire up on ignition, then a second later die. I try repeatedly to start, the car and with no luck. Yet, some days it just works. Really puzzling. Spoke to garage which advised me to get a new key cut as it could be faulty. I did this, yet the problem continues with old and new key.
  • 2003 Audi A4 Avant TDi B6 - Random Alarm - Flat Battery Diagnostic Socket 12 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Over the last month or so the alarm my A4 Avant has been going off randomly, even to the point that it sometimes won't switch off. It seemed to cure itself, about a month ago. This morning the car had all its indicators going and a flat battery (18 months old) I'm guessing the alarm was triggered and as its not that noisey we didn't hear it. As its damp this morning I'm guessing this has something to do with it.
  • Ford Fiesta Saloon - Maintaining battery. When left unused 4 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I have a new fiesta titanium which may be left unattended for a month or so. Last time I did this the battery was flat on my return. (No surprise says the aa man, modern cars consume current even when ignition is off) I have a 1.5 watt solar panel battery charger and am thinking of plugging this into the cigar lighter socket whilst I'm away. The question is: The car instructions say that the cigar lighter socket will only SUPPLY power for 30 mins after the ignition is turned off.

  • Nissan Qashiqai 360 - Nissan Qashiqai 360 chassis corroded-NewCar 2yrs 25 Mar 2015 (Forum)
v=WvnWSI0IlSU&feature=youtu.be   Welcome your comments on how can a 2-yr old new car have such problems of corrosion, and also my opinion is that the corrosion is not only on the paint surface.
  • Volvo 940 warm/hot start problem 31 Oct 2014 (Forum)
This is most evident when we take a trip to the out of town shopping centre and have to drive between stores. The car will usually start fine but then immediately die and this may happen several times. It's not a major problem, mainly annoying but I recall a similar fault on my old Rover 800 which was much harder to restart and was never resolved.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - Misfire 7 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Right, here's the problem, 16v 1999 Astra with a misfire. This occurs under acceleration, the car seems to cruise alright. When idling the misfire is not regular, sometimes a little burp or two every five seconds, then maybe every 12 seconds and sometimes ok for a little longer. The car is a bit of an oiler, a tad over 1/2 litre every 1k but it's been like that since I've had it (November).
  • Ford S-MAX - Ford Warranty Issue 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi All, It is my first post so please be gentle.   I bought a ford smax (four years old) from ford main dealer about a month ago. After couple of weeks I noticed that there was a whining/siren like noise coming from the turbo and I called the main delaer and made an appointment with their service department.AFter they inspected the car I was told that the noise was excessive for the  age and the condition of the car and They told me they made a claim under my warranty(12 months gold ford warranty) for a new turbo.

  • Mini Cooper S R56 - Mini Cooper S - Timing Chain Failure 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Last week the timing Tensioner has had a catistrophic failure and has subsequently seized the engine. The car now needs a new engine!  How can a five year old car, with 44,000 miles on the clock and cost over £22,000, need a new engine! BMW have refused to cover anything.  I have taken legal advice and been advised to fight.
  • MGBGT - Possible scam. 18 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Last September I sold a 40 year old MG to a Frenchmen who told me he was taking the car to France. He was given all the documents ( including the V5 and all MOTs etc; the DVLA were happy he was given the V5.) I notified the DVLA of the sale and have the usual letter acknowledging that I no longer own the vehicle.

  • Nissan Micra 1.0 - Advice on Rear Shocks please. 6 May 2012 (Forum)
My reason for asking is that this is a local used car and here in S.Devon the state of the local roads is getting so bad that bumpy car ride is affecting my back injury. I managed to have fitted a smooth adjustable rear shock (Nitron) to my Yamaha 850 Motorcycle which works a miracle but is there anything like that available for the Nissan Micra?

My 19 year old son has put off his test and buying a car due to the cost of insurance. Being a bright lad he has thought laterally and looked at getting a van instead.  A Suzuki 1.3 Carry van will cost him about £1,700 max to buy and about £1,200 to insure.
