  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 01 1.0 Erratic idle and revs,stalling,power loss 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
***Erratic idle, stalling, loss of power, fouled plugs, fuel starvation symptoms, fluctuating revs, surging, engine management light lit, running rich *** I had all of the above problems with a 2001 (51 reg) Nissan Micra 1.0 SE. The car would run ok until it was warm and then all hell would break loose. Got a local mechanic to check the car over and he advised giving it a service to start with as the plugs were fouled.

  • Honda Civic Type R - Engine Failure 25 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Such as can you at 70mph go from 5th gear to 2nd gear? We have received answers such as: ?Yes, no problem. The engine comes of song and you will run out of bottle before you run out of revs?. We have a 23minute tape recording of two sales executives at one of the dealerships answering our questions. We have confronted Honda and the main dealer with this information and they are unwilling to discuss the matter.
  • Suzuki Swift GTI - NO power below 3k rev 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
On the road, there is virtually no power until engine reaches approx 3000 rpm and then power returns and engine revs freely. It comes in fairly suddenly, but not like an absolute switch. The car will run along the flat or downhill in a high gear with lowish revs as normal, i.e. no bucking from the engine. But setting off from rest requires constant 3000+ rpm and loads of clutch slip, and hills require a run at them.
  • Getting dealer to fix faulty Mazda 20 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Within a day or so two faults became apparent: (1) jerky throttle response and intermittent flat spots - lifting off the throttle would sometimes result in either too much loss of speed (felt like engine braking was coming into play even if I lifted off at 40 mph in 5th gear) or slight 'run on'. (2) brakes squealing when applied at low speed (eg when inching forward in a traffic queue. I hoped that the poor throttle response might be due to the car needing some long runs so I ran it for a few weeks, gave it a shot of Redex and made sure I stuck to Texaco petrol.
  • Range Rover 1989 3.6L EFI light 11 May 2002 (Forum)
Now: Last weekend my Sister visited and on a day of very dense fog was out in the Range Rover {The US Spec of 1989 is that of a Top of the line all options fitted Vogue I think but it does of course have Cats fitted and runs on unleaded (All we have been able to get over her for about 10 years now)} Well she left the fog lights on when she got home and yesterday when I went to use it I found the Battery stone dead I put it on a smart charger for 24 hours and this AM all was well (after I recoded the OEM radio Cassette) except that the EFI light is ON... car is running perfectly and I ran it by a friends place that does the Local equivalent of a MOT he checked all the numbers from the Dynamometer He had run for said (passed) test last month and if anything they were a touch better...
  • Civic diesel MK8. - New battery and voltage 7 Aug 2025 (Forum)

  • Large 4x4 prices 21 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Maybe it's impossible to know but taking an educated guess , with proposed ban on diesel/petrol by 2035, do people think used 4x4 prices for older bigger 4x4's such as a Toyota land cruiser are going to plummet which some analysts say or basically become too expensive to run as the government will do silly things with tax and insurance ?   Say for example you bought a 2006 landcruiser for £5k now would it be worth £500 in 5 years time   Fascinating answers awaiting !
  • Renault Clio 2 1.2 16V 2003 - Warning lights 11 Nov 2023 (Forum)
Trying to remotely diagnose daughter’s poorly Clio from a distance - she’s in Staffordshire, I’m at Nice airport. She’s telling me it’s running OK, but the steering feels a little lighter, the red ‘Stop’ light is on, as are a couple of other warning lights, and the speedo has stopped working. Anyone any ‘top of the head’ suggestions? I’ve had her look to check that the alternator belt is still on.
  • Vauxhall Antara 59 plate - Alarm system on Vauxhall Antara. 21 Sep 2023 (Forum)
Alarm keeps going off, even when I lock the car via the drivers door, not using the fob.  I have been told that the alarm system runs off it own battery. If this is so I would appreciate any advice  as to how I can disconnect without having to pull fuses, which could possibly cause more problems. Thanks in advance. Drifter

  • Any - Electric Cars Tow Bars 19 Jun 2022 (Forum)
It seems the ID3 / Kona size can’t because of battery weight / range / too much pressure on running gear. I only want to tow a small trailer to the refuse tip occasionally and a small lightweight dinghy twice a year. Any idea on what I could buy to fit the bill ? Thanks Stuart
  • Choosing First Car 6 Jun 2022 (Forum)
I'm looking for a reliable hatchback (big enough for 2 adults and 1 kid). I'd like it to be economical and powerful enough to run short and long distances. Not something that chugs along on the motorway. My budget is up to around 25k and I'm happy to buy a used vehicle although doesn't have to be, It must, however, be automatic.
  • Renault Clio Sport Tourer - Can anyone identify this noise please? 17 May 2022 (Forum)
Im hearing this maybe once a week, and sometimes there is oil under the car. It only happens on start up and the car runs fine after, with no further noise or issue. I took it to my local garage and they said (after a quick "im busy" look) that they saw nothing wrong. I asked if it could be the timing belt, but they said no as the belt wouldn't make a noise like that.

  • Nissan Note S - Welding and car value 22 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I had some welding done on my current car at the last MOT and am curious to know if that would affect the sale price. It's pretty old anyway so not expecting much but runs well and has had a lot of work done (clutch, suspension etc) so am keen to try and get some cash for it. Would you consider a car that has had welding work or is it as good as scrap at that point?
  • Vauxhall Insignia 2011. - Stabilitrak warning light 14 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Hi, I washed my car today main body, wheel arches etc. Up until i washed the car the car was running fine. Now the car won`t start even though i replaced the battery a couple of weeks ago. There is a warning light coming up on the dashboard saying Stabilitrak. What does this mean and why does the car not start?
  • 2011 Volkswagen Golf 2.0TDI - Is this amount of blow-by acceptable? 27 Feb 2021 (Forum)
So I noticed when I take the oil cap off when the engine is running, there's disturbing amount of smoke or steam coming out of the oil filler hole. I know it's engine blow-by and it's expected of a 140K miles car, but is this amount considered normal? Is it time to say goodbye to the car?
  • VW Golf Mk7 long-term reliability? 29 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I know Civics are hugely reliable, how about the Golf? I'd be looking for one around the 50k miles mark (with a full service history) that I can run into the ground and make it last as long as possible. I'm just worried it could end up costing a lot to maintain in comparison to the Civic?   Any thoughts are appreciated
