  • renault grand scenic 2 - handbrake only half works after disc replacement? 4 May 2013 (Forum)

  • Audi A3 1.9 TDI - Shudders at speeds over 65 mph 10 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I've got copies of the history from the fleet company and DPF and cambelt have been replaced on schedule. Within a week of buying it a slight shudder was happening over 60 mph and the brakes were knocking too. The garage replaced the warped brakes straight away and a few weeks later all 4 tyres were replaced - garage was saying that the back tyres had been worn in a way that was causing the vibration.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0TDi Engine keeps cutting out. 13 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi there I have engine problems as when I start the engine from cold and drive along and then the engine will cut out when I apply the brakes. It seems to happen when I get to about 40 mph and start braking, I notice the rev dial drops to below 1 and then it normally comes back up to 1. What happens is when the engine cuts out it goes below 1 and totally cuts out.
  • Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 02 2.0 misfiring on start up 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
After a few weeks of ownership, started misfiring badly when starting from cold then usually runs okay. One occasion it was almost undriveable and she smelled burning. Ended up having to have the rear brake discs and pads replaced (don't know if this is connected). When the car's misbehaving the warning light for engine management comes on. Since brake replacement she has smelled burning once. Local garage (not Honda dealer) suspects injector 3 but can't do much until they witness the problem.
  • Freewheeling 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I assume it was abandoned for safety reasons, but we have much better brakes now, and AFAIK, Rovers were never regarded as worse than any other make in that regard - better, if anything. As a footnote, I would mention that 2-stroke cars, such as the Wartburg, also had it, because driving the engine fast on a low throttle setting (which meant little lubrication) would have seized it pretty quickly.
  • Tricky insurance question (driving abroad) 29 Nov 2007 (Forum)
So can I get the car insured straight away which is yes and if so I must then be able to get brake down cover. It's been a long time since I have used U.K Insurance thus the question. One way insurance if possible would be better as I'm not sure if and when I will return. Hope that make a little sense would really appreciate any help.
  • Italian eccentric or unreliable? 15 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Just got back off my trip to Cornwall - 290 miles in a day in a Seicento - actually alot easier than it sounds if your used to your 5-Series levels of comfort. Just one question - on steep hills in low gears only, the brake fluid warning light comes on, but the level is correct and its fine any other time - whats going on? Why on earth is it only in 2nd/1st gear but change up to 3rd on same gradient and it goes out? Bit of a scare when you REALLY want you brakes to be working!
  • Price check - Toyota Corolla T3 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Silver 5dr, by the time i sell it it will have just had its service so will therefore have brand new brake pads and discs at front and rear brakes also done last month. Had a new manifold around 12months ago so everything is rather new. Its in very good condition, i tried to look after it, never been in a crash or a bump.
  • Toyota Corolla 1.6 strange noise -PS? 15 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I presume I had driven over broken glass and had a puncture, but no, nor had i strained the tyres against the kerb and burst them. When I drove off there was a loud screeching like i had a stone caught in the brake pads, this continued and then stopped after a couple of miles. I took it to a tyre place who checked out the tyres and brakes and declared them perfect, so no fault there. He did mention that the Corollas had been noted to have steering problems however...
  • Volvo S60 Handbrake problem 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Up until this the hand brake was very efficient, after the replacement it was spongy, and a week later after it's 24000 mile service where they stripped out, cleaned and adjusted backplate on O/S/R it is now a little better.
  • VW Polo (Y) 1.4 TDI squeaky noise 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
A couple of days ago (after another hard evening trying to survive after-work traffic) I've noticed a weird squeaky noise coming somewhere from under the car. - It is not rev related or gear related. - If I apply the brakes the noise stops (even if the car is still rolling, i.e. applying brakes softly) - The noise seems to come and go and sometimes its higher pitched (louder), sometimes not. - Only appears when the car moves
  • What is it with motorcyclists? 23 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I live in Bournemouth and there seems to be an increasing number of motorcyclists who:- - While overtaking a slow moving queue of traffic, will push into the queue willy nilly despite no space available. The poor motorist has then to brake and make space rather than hit the motorcyclist. - While waiting at traffic lights, pull alongside the leading car. When the lights change they cut across into the path of the car not realising that the car is also pulling away at the lights.
