  • Volkswagen Polo III (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.0 Engine timing 20 Jan 2010 (Forum)
After waiting around for some minutes i got bored and i thought that it might have something to do with my fuel tank, so i filled it up wid some Fuel Injection Fluid, Car was working fine after that. So i also decided to check the engine anyways and i took it to a garage and he sprayed some spray thingy on my throttle boddy i think it was on my engine and it was like a circle thing that flaped up and down there was some grease on there so he cleaned it and sprayed it, car was working even better but on the rev meter my Throttle used to just spring up and down losly like there was no control. the rev meter just used to flip up wen it hit 20 or 30, i ignored that and started driving the garage guy sed it will be fine give it some time.
  • Volkswagen Passat (1988 - 1997) - 96 2.0 Poor running, hesitation. 5 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Along with the problem I've also noticed a drop off in performance and throttle response but interestingly fuel consumption doesn't seem to have been adversely affected. Any help/suggestions gratefully received. Thanks in advance, Chris
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 2.0 HDI With Zero acceleration 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Some suggestions and help would be very much appreciated, I'm thinking its electrical but at the same time it could be a fuel problem, low pressure pump? If I take that out can the filter be cleaned or is it a sealed unit? If it's an electrical fault where do i begin looking? Thanks, alec.
  • Go back to petrol: would you? 3 Apr 2007 (Forum)
) * It may cost less to service a petrol engine. * A petrol engine may be less likely to fail expensively in later life. * At current fuel prices, the difference in fuel cost between a 31 mpg petrol car and a 43 mpg diesel is about 3.1p, or about £1,600 over 50,000 miles. (This, of course, takes no account of different costs for servicing, insurance, VED or depreciation.)
  • Volvo S80 battery problem 1 May 2006 (Forum)
I have a volvo S80. About 4 months ago my wife left the hazard lights on after she had run out of fuel. After a few hours of waiting for help the battery ran out. When she eventually managed to get the fuel, unbeknown to her that the batterry had ran out she tried countless times to start the engine with the result that the engine was flooded with fuel.
  • Calibra slow to drop to idle 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Stranger still, although it doesn't do it when it is on a cold engine, it doesn't always do on a hot one either. Now the weird bit, having the fuel computer read out on instant consumption, I have noticed that the deceleration fuel cut off doesn't always work (ie. you don't always get 999.9 mpg). Now I know that as you approach the idle speed you won't see this anyway.
  • VW Audi 1.9 TDI PD - Best Engine Ever ? 30 Jun 2024 (Forum)
In 40 years of motoring and access to the Millbrook trade days to trial all models over the last 20 years I have ome to the conclusion that the 1.9 TDI PD engine takes some beating. Low end torque , turbo kicks in at 2000 revs and unbelievable fuel economy I have yet to find a better combination of useable power and economy. I think that Avant will agree
  • SsangYong Korando - Average driving Speeds 23 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Just went to reset the trip computer on the car and there was a little item that said miles driven, time driven and average speed as well as fuel consumption. Average speed was 19 mph over the past 1500 ish miles which yesterday included a fast as legally possible drive to France including a nice fast bit on the Autoroute. 85 in the Korando is plenty fast enough for me most of the time...
  • Nissan Qashqai 2011 - 1.5 DCI - Starting issue -Nissan Qashqa 24 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Once started  its starts again but but always on 2nd crank . Tested the battery and seems to be ok. Priming the fuel bulb does not make much difference. no error codes on a cheap scanner. Any ideas what it could be?   Many thanks
  • Peugeot 308sw 2016 - Siphoning diesal from new Peugeot 11 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Any tips on how to siphon it out  please? I have a siphon and an attachment allowing access to the fuel tank, but the 60cm pipe doesn't seem to reach the diesal at all, even though it goes fully in. I don't know if there is an anti siphon device of some sort fitted, or if the tube needs to be weighted to reach it?

  • All - Sainsbury's -free air 23 Sep 2021 (Forum)
My colleague bin Godalming says it's the same there, so probably a national decision. I used to visit for air and probably get fuel half the time i visited. I'll try and avoid darkening their door for a while, that'l learn then eh?
  • Claiming Mileage Allowance 20 Aug 2021 (Forum)
My son's current and previous employer want fuel receipts when claiming his 45p business mileage expenses. I've been retired six years now, but my employer never requested receipts, I just claimed miles x 45p and it was paid. Does anyone know if HMRC rules have changed?

  • any - Power sapped by A/C 9 Jul 2020 (Forum)
I always have driven with it turned on summer or winter and when it wasn't working I can't say that I noticed any difference in power or fuel consumption from the 120 hp engine but you don't get something for nothing even if the power consumption is minimal.
  • EV perks 20 Jun 2020 (Forum)
This is all out of taxation which non EV drivers are paying.  EV drivers are also getting subsidised fuel in the form of cheap electric.  When will the average driver be able to afford and run a EV and until then carry on helping the well off with their motoring
  • Minivan for long distance? 17 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I need something with a lot of space and where the rear seats fold down into a bed. So a minivan or van base. I had thought of a Nissan Elgrand but am put off by the fuel costs. Has anyone got any suggestions? Seems like most of these are Japanese imports, which is fine, but I don't know a huge amount about what is available. Budget about 5k.
  • toyota corolla verso 2L DIESEL - engine flooding 31 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hello, looking at a 10 plate verso which is a non runner, apparently been diagnosed at Toyota as major fuel leak and seller says been told injectors stuck in open position,  seems odd all doing this and i thought it was more like a signal from ecu causing all. anyone know any history of this kind of defect, i do not have the p code associated with the fault.
  • Any - Electric cars - new pollution factor 21 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I'm neither anti nor pro electric cars if anything I'm quite interesting in moving to one myself when affordable, but it shows that even the alternatives need proper evaluation before we're forced again towards a replacement fuel as some of the consequences are intricate
