  • Skoda Fabia 1,2 1964 - Windows opening themselves and clicking central lo 16 Jan 2021 (Forum)
It did about three times in the morning, but the third time, there were some clicking sounds (about ten times) from the locking system before the windows opened.  I disconnected the battery and took the car to Skoda the next morning - the windows kept shut for this. Skoda did a test, found no fault, but changed the door switch on the o/s, just in case. The switch was only £27.00, so I don't think it was a module?
  • Ford Fiesta Titanium 2017 - Completely unresponsive with faint internal alarm 22 Nov 2020 (Forum)
The other car doors will not open internally and as I say there's not even the slightest response when I try the ignition so I'm guessing some sort of immobiliser issue rather than a flat battery. Have also tried both keyless fobs so unlikely that both have happened to fail at same time. Any ideas? TIA!
  • VW Golf 1.6tdi SE running report 2013 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I purchased this car one year old from Motorpoint in Birmingham at £15k.  the mileage today after 6 years is 130k - all components are original including car battery.  Its had an oil change between on average 7-8k using VW Quantum 504/507 spec, between 10k to 90k each oil change was at 5k interval (miles).  I had it Terraclened at 120k - made no difference - waste of money.
  • Ford Focus MK2 2.0 TDCI - Issues with loss of power 3 Feb 2020 (Forum)
(cambelt replacement, full service done, MOT’d few months ago) Since two days she’s got loss power, as soon as I press accelerator fuel consumption goes from roughly 7l/100 to 32-40, surprisingly when on cruise control fuel consumption goes right down. No smoke coming out, oil filled, no lights on dashboard , unplugged battery overnight to reset computer- tested on OBD today - no codes) car starts on first turn of the key, other than being sluggish no other issues. Doesn’t overheat either. No sounds from the engine or so.
  • Volkswagen Touran - Check engine light on VW Touran mk1 27 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Will my car fail MOT with it? I know all is fine with the airbag since it did happen to me before when my battery ran dead. I had to give it the mechanic to remove it. It was 30 quid, ouuuch.   Thanks a lot for help
  • Skoda Fabia - Fuel leaking into the Sump tank 10 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Mid November I got a new water pump put on my car and had the cambelt changed at the same time, just before Christmas on my way home the DPF light comes on, nearly home and my car revs up and raced forward like the accelerator is stuck on, the revs came down however then revved up again at which point I turned the car off and pulled over. The car then wouldn’t start again as if it had a flat battery with the ticking noise. Towed it too the garage, who asked when I last put oil in, I said not for a while the level has always been alright. They said no it appears to have been overfilled. Basically they’re trying to tell me the car tried to regen itself but failed so ended up dumping the excess diesel into the oil sump.
  • Vauxhall Corsa B - Engine hesitation 23 Nov 2017 (Forum)
The engine is still hesitating at high speed. I’ve changed the spark plugs and coil pack. Disconnected the battery to try and reset the ecu. No change. The cars not long been serviced as the oil is still golden. I’m going to try changing the air filter, fuel filter, maf sensor and also the crankshaft sensor.

  • any - long term weekend car rental 2 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Would this make sense from a used car dealer perspective, who may have an inventory of cars, and may need for some to be run to charge the battery and keep the car in condition. Or would it be a hassle for a used car dealer and admin expenses such as additional insurance, etc.? Any thoughts on the best option for this scenario?
  • SEAT Ibiza SC - EPC light post service 8 Nov 2016 (Forum)
It is 6 years old but only done 30,000miles. 1.4 petrol engine. There were a few things recommended (brake pads, new tyres), nothing mentioned about battery/engine.  Took the car home that evening planning to get it back in this week for the above. I was given the car with the engine running and took it home (200m away), however on the two occasions I have attempted to start/drive my car since the service the EPC light has come on post starting up then the engine has died out (first time while still stationary, second time as soon as I pulled out onto the road).
  • Mk4 Ford Mondeo Titanium 2009 - Airbag ecu & warning light 24 May 2016 (Forum)
I've had no issue with it until a month ago when we had electrical gremlins so took it to a Ford garage. Turns out the battery was dying. While they were working on it they found the airbag light does not come on before or after the engine starts and when they checked the airbag ecu is was full of crash data. We've rechecked the HPI and it is clear.
  • Galaxy EcoBoost Powershift Reversing Lights Failed 5 May 2016 (Forum)
A live feed is coming off gearbox to control unit when in reverse, although it's hard to trace whether it's a multi pole switch that may have a separate feed for the reversing lights - all extremely complex and may even be an internal switch on powershift gearboxes? I have disconnected battery for an hour to do an ECU reset and still no change. There are no fault codes present. The auto electrician and local garage are suggesting an ECU module change, so a very expensive fix. It's a post Feb 2010 so everything is module controlled rather than conventional switches, relays and fuses.
  • renault twingo 2013 - Renault twingo Fuse box 27 Mar 2016 (Forum)
AA would disconnect battery reconnect and it would start. Advice given was to take to dealers which it was and never any fault found. Last week did the same and dealer states"it's a known issue which is not repairable you need to speak to Renault" spoke to Renault who said yes we have no leg to stand on we will replace with a brand new 2016 free of charge.I was amazzes that they stated this but none the less its a recorded conversation Today they say your car is now only worth £2000 because of this fault and we need you to pay £9500 to get you a replacement car!
  • Ford Focus MK1 - Focus MK1 Serious electrical problems 22 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I've taken it to a garage but they couldn't find the issue. So a list of the issues: 1. Battery light comes on after 25-30 seconds. 2. Front passenger central locking doesn't work. If it is unlocked, global unlocking doesn't work (all locks close and then open, like if you tried to lock the car when a door was open).
  • 2004 1.6 Ford Focus Estate - 04 MK1 Focus - lumpy when pulling up 17 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Now I've been reading around the internet and people have mentioned many things that it can be. I've replaced the battery, the idle air valve, the front breather pipe on the block, put a new coil on it last week, still juddering. The only thing I've yet to replace is the speed sensor on top of the gearbox. Would this be the holy grail & get me sorted?
  • Rover 75 non start 27 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I went to start up and all I got was a clicking noise coming from the engine bay. I rang my breakdown cover and they thought it was the battery so tried to start it using jump leads...no luck. Next they diagnosed the starter motor sticking, so pushed it down the hill and bump started it (wasnt very happy about this as I cant see catalysts being cheap), and it eventually started.
  • Peugeot 106 - Gearbox oil seal 11 Sep 2015 (Forum)
My thinking is that I can change that any any time, easy peasy through the breather cap up top , near the battery) I am planning on using some wood , to tap the seal in gently, so it can't go further in , than level to the gearbox body. I plan to hold the driveshaft's weight by a rope from up top, and oil the driveshaft spline before insertion and twist gently as it goes into the seal.
  • Ford Focus - 05 1.6 petrol focus idle problem 9 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I also tried to reset the idle by disconnecting the battery for 15 to 30 mins, then starting the car without touching the throttle pedal, once warm drive for 5 mins then turn off for a min or 2 then restart, but that hasn't worked either. anyone got any ideas ?
  • mini one clubman'59 plate - mini one clubman '59 will not start at all 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The key was turning on the radio and some of the dashboard, but not all the dashboard. Absolutely no response from the engine  The garage came round and thought maybe low battery, so changed that, then changed it back. Immobilised and local garage not able to tow. Local mini services says they will look if I get it to them. Everyone flummoxed as to the cause of the problem....anyone any ideas?
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager 2.8 auto - voyager starting problem 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)
It was very random in terms of when it used to do it, it could go minutes, hours or a day with out a problem or it could do it all the time. I have changed the battery to a fancy gel one, two starter motors, crank and cam shaft sensors, new fuel filter and primer part on top. ( when this was changed it was perfect for a week, then all of a sudden back to normal.) since then priming the fuel guaranteed a start.
