  • Rover flywheel wear 4 Apr 2001 (Forum)
Does anyone know whether old style Rover 200's (1990-95 models) are prone to wear on the teeth of their flywheels as my 92,000 mile 214 is grinding its starter on start up (as though I'd try to start it while the engine is running) The fault is inetermittent but getting worse.
  • Brakes on a Passat 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I bought a 2nd hand Passat in November (20,000 miles, S reg). I got it from a VW dealer and thus have a year's warranty. Since I bought it the front nearside brake has been making a terrible grinding noise. Sounds like metal on metal. Despite the dealer changing the discs twice and the pads three times the noise still persists.
  • Renault Espace 1 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Hello, Some time ago, someone mentioned (Was it HJ ?)the better model of a s/h Espace to suit a potential buyer who was short on funds. My ageing Nissan Prairie will have to go soon and I fancy an Espace, preferably diesel, possibly with auto transmission. Funds are limited to around £5000.
  • Byers questions Final part (hopefully) 2 May 2002 (Forum)
The public is extremely resentful of the fact that this lack of funding exists despite road transport taxes providing a considerable proportion of the Treasury budget income, far in excess of the returned investment. What is the Minister?s view on redressing this imbalance.
  • Drove a few cars yesterday 10 May 2009 (Forum)
The bonnet has a subtle bulge which looks lovely from the driver?s seat. The car feels fantastic on the road with firm suspension and nice positive steering. The engine pulls well from low revs and is very quiet (I honestly wouldn't have known it was a diesel had I not been told).
  • 4 Months with the Corolla ST 29 Sep 2025 (Forum)
So to anyone wanting a spacious, quick, economical biggish estate go and have a drive. But stick to the Icon with its 205 55 profile tyres, the 45's and 40's do nothing for the car.
  • Can I be a revolutionary? 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Neither are intuitive, with too many functions buried in hard find menus that take an age to drill down.   Compared to our S-Max and Juke, both with decent size touch screens in the centre of the dash, capable of dealing with most things within a couple of pushes so you can do things like pair up a phone at the trafic lights, rather than having to sit in the car park for five minutes.
  • N/A - Road Traffic Act section 151 7 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I've read said section and am struggling to see how they can apply it to me, but I'm no expert so thought it would be worth asking on here. Subsection 1 of S.151 states that "This section applies where [...] a judgment to which this subsection applies is obtained."  This would indicate to me that their claim under S.151 falls at the first hurdle, as no judgment of any kind has been obtained against me.
  • FIAT Doblo - FIAT Doblo 1.9 in JTD & MJ forms – consumption 2 May 2010 (Forum)
I loved it but the local garage warned of expensive repairs imminent.   Averaged 47 mpg, low 40’s round town in the winter, low 50’s motorway in the summer. Replaced with 1.9 MJ 105bhp, 56 reg, 3 months ago, with about 27K on the clock - now + 3K.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.0 TDCi turbo vane actuator problem (P132A) 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I know this post goes on a bit but it seems there are a lot of people with similar problems to me and I?m trying to collate everyone?s knowledge into a workable solution. Car has done, 109k miles History Driving at 70mph on dual carriageway came to slight hill and applied extra power. Suddenly the power dropped right off and the glow plug warning light started to flash.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - Oh no, not another bangernomics post! 17 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Paid £1150 for it 3 years ago with 91k miles on it. Now showing 118k. Not a huge annual mileage I know, but during that period that?s just the same mileage I would have done had it been a brand new car. Everything from 2 miles to the shops, to 1500 miles in a week on holiday. And it's been totally abused: Apart from one oil and filter change when I first got it, it's had ZERO servicing.
  • A few days in China, cars, pollution, perspective 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Beyond that and the political perspective, just wait for something like a Chinese interpretation of a Jazz coming in for £4,000 and wiping the floor, as seen with British bikes in the 60`s. What do you think? Regards
  • sorn point 12 May 2007 (Forum)
Bah! Community policing! Billy?s in disgruntled mode, I have lived in my little terraced house, in a little terraced street, (seven houses) that goes to nowhere, for 20 years. In all that 20 years I have never parked my car anywhere else but in the narrow back street, as do a lot of my neighboughs.
  • Is 6 Grand+5 y/o a car tipping point? 16 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I like big cars with all the toys and literally you're spoilt for choice around the 6k mark and about 5 years old. I'm thinking here of mass market cars such as Mondeo 2.5's / Vectra 3.2's / Omegas / Volvo S60's , each would typically have about 50/60 k miles on the clock. Its these types of car that I've always seemed to end up with and they've ALWAYs cost an arm and a leg to keep fuelled and on the road.

  • Life's a ..... 2 May 2002 (Forum)
That?s it, I?ve had enough. The car has got to go. Driving back from London to Kent in the rush hour yesterday the car started to misbehave. Didn?t seem to be changing gear properly (it?s an auto). Continued more circumspectly than is my wont after pulling over to nearside so that I could access the hard shoulder if need be.
  • Ford S-MAX - Used Car issue - Cracked and Chipped Windscreen 5 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I picked up my new car today (used one) from a large London based secondhand dealer. - I don't know if I can mention them by name so I won't - Anyway...
  • Ford Fiesta 2010 - Do I need to change timing belt before its time? 16 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I had to borrow a fair amount of money to buy it and can't afford any purchases these next few months but I have read horror stories on the net. I am planning to have it done in the next six months for peace of mind but just wondering if it s a bit of a risk. On the report from the mechanic, it s written the driving belts are in good condition but I suspect this did not include the timing belt. Unfortunately, there are no service history or repair receipt.
  • Ínsurance pay outs 29 Jan 2016 (Forum)
this is an outrageous bill for this  damage (945.50.)  I owned  S & S  Autos in E15 for several years and Swiss autos in E11 for 8 years, and have been in the motor business for 30 years. I had my own repair shop, and during this time repaired innumerable cars that were damaged.
  • Land Rover announces new limited edition Defender 20 May 2014 (Forum)
Meanwhile, the gear lever has been replaced by a dead sheep’s leg and the steering wheel is held on by a poultice of sap and squirrel t***s. The Defender Bear Grylls Edition will go on sale just after the September equinox and will cost seventeen leaves and a piece of bark including a III yeare warranty and a simply enormous amount of self-righteousness.
