  • Hijacking - worth reading. 23 Sep 2003 (Forum)
More than 70 percent of hijackings in Gauteng now happen in the driveways of the victims' homes. To avoid this situation you need to be extra alert. About 2km from your home, switch off the car radio and concentrate on your surroundings. Are you being followed? Most hijackings are done to order. If they want your car you might be under surveillance. If you think you are being followed, drive past your home to see whether you continue to be followed.
  • Right to Silence court case Monday, and publicity 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Secondhand report and old film but covered anyway, probably in South only. Interview Monday pm on radio in South Wales and Tueday on County Sound, Hampshire. Long article in Daily Mail page 19, 2/3 page showing 'Road Casualties Rise' as speed camera fines double to £25m, then 1/3 page on my case, with picture.

Be on the lookout however for a "stooge" vehicle which may still be observing you. Professional carjackers will have two-way radios. If you have the time, stop frequently in these places, and see whether other vehicles appear to be responding to your move, i.e. could be following you. If you ply a regular route to and from work, school, the gym, shops etc, vary your time and route wherever/whenever you can.
  • Cheaper than cycling - Recommended to Merc owner 27 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Taken from the entertaining Sniff Petrol site Day one: This is Britain’s cheapest new car. It costs £5995 for which you get a five door hatchback with no central locking, no radio, no electric windows and only available in white. What it does have is an engine to make it go, brakes to make it stop and windows to keep draughts out. Trivia nerds will note that the actual glass is common across all Dacia models.

Ballardian sculptures about, and given the lot of the average person in this part of the world, I cannot but suspect that he is over-egging the pudding of his Jonah-like existence somewhat. Amir bends down to turn on the English-language radio-station, causing the taxi to veer sharply and dangerously to the right. For a second I know what it?s like to be an American. ?Amir, you know, I can do that for you, if you wouldn?t mind keeping your eyes on the road.?

, causing one critic to accuse him of creating ?verbal suet puddings?. After leaving Car in 1999, Setright took a slot on Radio 4. In his later, occasional columns for The Independent, Setright?s writing ? once gloriously contrary ? had become more predictably anachronistic: he still benchmarked everything against Bristols and Preludes; electric or hybrid cars were dismissed in short order and in March this year he lambasted BMW for agreeing to create cars without ashtrays.
  • [C]5 go on a trip........ 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Anyway, you cannot select a function on the computer; you have to step sequentially through them all to get to the one you want. Miss it and you will have to go all the way around again. The radio has its own little switch arm on the steering column. Cheap, flimsy, difficult to see/find until you get used to it, but it has all the right functions. If I could have got comfortable in the seat, then I would think that the car is pretty good for long distance 70mph cruising.
