Nissan Leaf - First impressions of 2.5k Leaf 13 Sep 2025 (Forum)
That was a ten minute job, and hopefully an easy fix. As mentioned, it’s the base model, so no screen, and a basic radio/CD player, but that’s fine with me. It’s still got air con and you can set the charging to start at a set time, and the car interior to pre-heat. It’s got keyless entry and start, and cloth seats (I don’t like leather seats!). -
VW Golf 1.4 Estate - First impressions - goodbye Civic hello Golf 23 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Its a little bit of wind but mainly road. The tyres are Michelin Energy which shouldn't be noisy. Maybe once I turn on the radio, get some gear in the boot and stop my new car obsessiveness it won't be an issue. Its just been serviced so I wont need to shell out for another year but that will be much more than the Honda which had unbelievably cheap main dealer service with free MoT and breakdown. -

Vauxhall Zafira A - Electrical gremlins or something else? 11 Sep 2017 (Forum)
It seemed - although I can't be certain - that it was most likely to occur just after some kind of bump or pothole. A couple of days later this escalated to losing the radio code overnight. At this point I thought it was probably battery and/or alternator. I had trouble starting a few times as well, although I did always get it going in the end. Things got worse and the other day I had the engine cut out entirely and all electrics stopped - dashboard went completely blank, lights out, couldn't put hazards on or anything. -
Which small car offers reliability and ease of access for a disabled passenger? 4 Jul 2012 (Ask HJ)
We need a reliable new car which should be five-door with a high seat for both driver and disabled front passenger. I have a 10-year-old Toyota Yaris that... -
Corsa C (51 Plate) Easytronic - Vauxhall Corsa C Easytronic Losing Power/Gear 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Anyway when it originally happened the breakdown guy ended up disconnecting the battery (in an effort to stop the alarm) and the Vauxhall dealership reset the radio code. A few days ago I had a situation whereby upon moving off from stationary traffic the car just seemed to lose power and just revved when you pressed the accelerator. -
Ford Excursion - Any advice re: buying an American SUV 2 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The Defender has been ruled out because we have had one for nearly 10 years now and the family are demanding creature comforts like a radio and a heater that works! The Discovery 3 is only just coming into our price range but most vehicles have mileages well in excess of 100,000 miles. The Kia Sedona appears to be a competent tug, but I'm a little concerned about reliability and solidity. -
Skoda Yeti SUV (2009 - ) - First 150 miles in my new 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The only slight negative thus far is the Bolero stereo. It seems very slow and unresponsive when playing from a SD card, and the controls for the radio and CD seem illogical and overly complex. I found the system in my Octavia II Ambiente much more intuitive, although obviously less functional. Still a massive improvement in what was fitted to my old Mk I Octavia vRS though. -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2008 - ) - 5 miles in a new Jazz 9 Sep 2009 (Forum)
The trick boot area with split level floor and part folding floor means no spare wheel and the gearknob wasn?t secured properly. The other downside for me is the clutter of switches on and around the radio as all the aircon controls are in also in the same area. Makes things handy, but it is confusing when first trying to identify what all the buttons are and what they actually do. For a car which is generally chosen by the older generation it could appear very daunting. -
Drink and Drug Drive Campaign 11 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The Christmas Drink and Drug Drive Campaign runs from Monday December 1 to Thursday January 1, 2009. Leicestershire's campaign supports the national Think! campaign - with brand new radio, internet and in-pub advertising - to remind drivers, and young men in particular: If you get caught drink driving you'll be processed like any other criminal. The consequences of being caught drinking and driving include: * You WILL be arrested, taken to a police station and charged. * You WILL receive a drink drive conviction and a criminal record. * You WILL receive a minimum 12-month driving ban. * You COULD be fined up to £5,000. * You COULD go to prison for up to six months. * You COULD lose your job or miss out on future jobs. * You WILL have higher insurance costs. * You WILL have to explain yourself to family, friends and your partner The Department for Transport has also funded new digital breath testing equipment which will be used by many forces, including Leicestershire. -
Are small cars impractical for tall people? 16 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Open a paper or turn on the radio or TV these days and all the talk is about going gree, downsizing cars to save on fuel, tax and so on but... Are small cars such as the Yaris, Micra, Fiesta, Polo, etc, etc totally impractical for a tall people? -
Legacy 2.5 Tourer - 40,000 mile report 22 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Seats good, easy to get a comfortable driving position, especially with elec adjustment of the drivers seat. Standard fit radio isn't outstanding but good enough for me. Climate control highly efficient but Mrs W describes it a draughty. You can't manually close the centre air vents which is a pain, but you can do it through adjusting the flow on the control panel. -
New Toyota Hi-Lux 3 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Interior is a gloomy grey cloth so needs upgrading with leather throughout, that?s fairly cheap to do here, as I believe it is in TH. The sound system is excellent with radio, cassette, 6 CD changer and MP3. The size is just about right for conditions here, enough to intimidate the idiots as required but not so big as to be hard to manage and park, as was my Ford F-150. -
Indirectly related to Susan's post 2 May 2005 (Forum)
This relates to Susan Parker's post about British cars (or lack of) overseas and a strange coincidence in my local bar last night on a similar subject A regular drinker pal is a well-known commentator on local radio on motoring and other matters and we were discussing (in the light of the 60 years since Berlin fell being currently celebrated) the parallel of the end of the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. -
Good therapist needed urgently 20 Feb 2004 (Forum)
And so it was today I have been viewing and driving a '69 Fastback straight out of Bullitt in Angeles City Philippines on the old Clark Field aiurbase. 351 cu in. motor transplanted from a '71, Crane cams, Holley carbs, auto, new tires, metallic blue new paint job, some new gauges inside replacing the stock ones (I think she's been quarter-miled at some time), radio missing, car doubtless a legacy of the US air base at Clark. As always with these old big block live-for-ever Fords, whisper-quiet mechanically, no evidence of smoke but with the bellow of an enraged bull when floored, brutal acceleration, trans takes up with a postive clonk straight away, brakes with loads of travel but work fine, some evidence of the traditional Mustang overheating (it's 34 C today), the anti-diluvian Bendix a/c works fine (the seller has a car air-con shop!) -
In praise of old clunkers 14 Sep 2003 (Forum)
It also costs only a few shillings to fill up as opposed to most of the contents of my wallet. The radio is not the original and the Alpine replacement did fall out going over a speed bump and dangle by its wires but then one can't expect everything. My buyer wants to buy the Honda back when he has the cash. -
Czech Observations 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
panel to allow air conditioning to run when the car if left unattended, and infact, the air conditioning and heater can be controlled from up to 1500 metres away by radio handset. I have never really been one to admire anything Tutonic, but this car, especially with W12 engine, impressed me deeply. Can't wait for a drive later in the year on dry tarmac, if I'm allowed! -

2 weeks in the US - observations motoring & other 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The car itself was typical Amercan fare, lots of poorly fitting trim and fake wood, but with a great satellite radio (Sirius I think)- kids kept wanting radio 1 but 70's and 80's channels won the day! Could not really find traffic announcements but I think that was again similiar to the UK with most cars and say if you are on AM you can't receive FM traffic announcements.
