Trader won't give refund over dangerous van - what are my options? 19 Nov 2013 (Ask HJ)
I have recently purchased a 2007 Fiat Ducato from a trader. Within a day of buying it, the clutch pedal started sticking and the speedo would only work... -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.3TDCI Ecoflex, 2008 - HELP!!! problems within 2 weeks of purchase!! 30 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Having had a browse through this website and google, the substantial rattle I hear in low gears and when using the clutch would suggest that these mysterious parts will need replacing sooner rather than later! 2 days after this, my INSP4 warning came back on, which is leading me to think that they never replaced the filter after all. The rattling noise is getting louder and more prolonged, and the dealership are being less than helpful about having a look at these problems. -
Credit Repair & Hire - Possible Disputes? 13 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Based upon this and the proceedings so far (i.e TP admit liability), do you reckon this case would be clear cut and should be resolved without any possible dispute i.e. hire costs etc Having read some experiences, I am obviously concerned with the route I have taken so far. I'm am regretting this and worried of the potential hassle it will lead to - Legal invovlement on disputed costs, providing financial information, justifying everything etc. This has been the 5th day of hire since last Thu, and I'm hoping repairs will be complete in the next day or so. -
Thoughts on this 80mph idea? 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Such as encouraging people who already far exceed the speed limit to drive faster is a bad idea. Faster speeds can lead to more accidents although research still shows that the UK's roads are among the safest in Europe. However it also shows our speed limits are among the lowest in Europe too, now obviously other factor's come into accident rates but smart money says the correlation between lowest speed limits in europe and safest roads in europe is not a coincidence or an accident. -
Why doesn't my warranty cover condenser repairs to my 2002 Mercedes-Benz E320? 26 Jun 2010 (Ask HJ)
I recently bought a policy with a leading warranty company. I have paid about £800 over the last two years to them for an 'extra care' policy (with franchised... -
Car knocked down my wall - what do I do next? 28 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Also I have found out that he has fallen on hard times in the past year or so and is actually living in a caravan in a field, having lost his house (no problem with that, poor chap, and I am not saying this must make him dodgy, but tied in with his unwillingness to proactively come and talk to us about this, relying on passing messages to us via our neighbour until my wife stopped his van yesterday leads me to speculate that he will stall us until he jumps ship and leaves us to sort out the mess. The neighbour's work has been completed, he wants paying and as he has told her he is going through their car insurance she feels duty bound to pay him. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - DVLA Scrapped car by mistake 30 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Now she gave them the documents for both cars instead of just the old one. I never had the new one in my hand ever or saw it. This lead to (on paper anyway) both cars being issued a destruction certificate (crushed/cubed). However my new car has never been cubed but my old car had been. The problem did not come to my attention until the tax ran out and I needed to re-tax. -
Motoring myths 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
This is of course wrong; your licence would be endorsed regardless, and failure to pay a fine can lead to more serious trouble. 5. You can outrun a speed camera In theory, you could outrun a speed camera by driving at more than 172mph. However, few cars are capable of such speeds and anyone daft enough to try deserves to lose their licence. 6. -

Cars with soul 21 Apr 2020 (Forum)
They did fall to pieces by the time they reached 7yrs old (if you were lucky) but it is to date probably the best modern day Alfa yet made, Rover 827 Vitesse 5dr - Not really that sporty actually but it sounded good and went well in a straight line yet was cheap to buy used. Traction was lacking so front tyres would last minutes if you had a lead lined right foot. Rover Metro GTi - Modern day Mini Cooper, a go-kart for the road but with comfy seats and central locking. None left so buying one today will cost the Crown Jewels but I had an irrational love for small hot hatches and these were actually very good. -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - Diesel Problem Vol2 19 Sep 2018 (Forum)
The loss of power which until you re-cycle the ignition means that the brakes and steering are much less effective which downhill on a bend leading up to a busy road might cause a scare. Along with all of the other reports on this website I think Renault really should be obliged to make these stalling problems a safety recall. Perhaps they do not know how to fix it. -
Is it a risky gamble to buy a 2010 Vauxhall Zafira with no service history? 7 Jun 2017 (Ask HJ)
I have the opportunity to buy a 2010 Vauxhall Zafira, with 77,000 miles on the clock, from a local independent garage. They can't find the service history... -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.9TDi white smoke on cold startup. 25 Sep 2013 (Forum)
firstly thanks to everyone whos helped with this problem on the other posts (back in october.) Its still not fixed but I think I'm much closer now. As theres been so many false leads I thought it would be easier to post new (plus didn't want to bump an october 2008 post back up ) The problem is basically white smoke on startup on a passat B5.5, I know its common and I read through the other posts and will try to build the results into this one. -
Supercharged Harley 8 May 2007 (Forum)
Unfortunately though, for all my words telling the owner how impressed (and surprised) I was during a guided tour to find a spotlessly clean, quietly efficient, Harley factory at Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, his machine reinforced the common view of Harley workmanship; knowing our destination, I was leading the group, and at one point noticed only one headlight behind, not five. Sinking feeling. The two of us turned round and headed back towards Stow on the Wold, wondering what we'd find. As it turned out we found four bikes at the roadside, one of which was a broken Harley; the spark plug cap for the rear cylinder had fractured from the vibration. -
Next fill of biodiesel 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Bazza - as far as I remember, ULSD was actually introduced about nine years ago under EU legislation. You're right that there were concerns over the reduction in sulphur leading to additional wear of injection pumps, which has been addressed here by adding other chemicals as lubricants. As you say, the French decided to put around 5% biodiesel into their ULSD specifically for the purposes of lubrication, which has the additional benefit of supporting their domestic agricultural sector. -
Letter toWelsh Assembly on car restriction plansci 2 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Professor Garel Rhys of the Transport Studies section in Cardiff University Business School has said ? Plans to tax and penalise car use are leading Britain into a former Soviet style regime." Studies have already shown that if some proposals I have seen to ?improve road safety in Wales? are implemented, there will be no decrease in accidents. -

Lexus RX400h - RX400h owner's review for gordonbennet 20 Jun 2019 (Forum)
The traction control is over sensitive and really hampers acceleration in the wet, I suspect this nannying is because of the next issue - there’s noticeable torque steer when hammering it in the wet which never gets out of hand, but it’s there to remind you you’re not driving a Range Rover! If you’re not lead-footed you probably won’t notice either of these traits. Car Park anonymity! I find I have to drive around car parks with the windows down and the (decent) stereo on, pedestrians just don’t hear you coming when running on battery power and step into your path lemming-style. -
What do you advise when warranty won't cover what dealer said it would? 19 Dec 2016 (Ask HJ)

Volvo V40 - Volvo New 2.0l diesel reliability 7 Dec 2015 (Forum)
So after 8 months (June) and 11000 miles my issues started to happen with engine management light then after a few days reduced performance, my dealer was unhelpful and gave me a 2 week lead time before he could look at it. So I contacted Volvo assist to attend my vehicle at my home, which they did within an hour, and after 20minutes diagnosed the egr as at fault and booked it in with my prefered local dealer (Not the dealer I purchased from) the next day with a hire car arranged for me to use as a courtesy car.
