Mazda 6, what to watch out for? 13 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I would ideally prefer the 136 bhp engine to the 121 bhp - I do a lot of driving on B-roads and need to be able to pass the 45 mph brigade safely, but the bits of straight road aren't as long as I'd like. I know I could get the 121 bhp engine chipped, but my insurance would probably jump. -- andymc Vroom, vroom - mmm, doughnuts ... -
Audi TT Coupe - Faulty car just after few days... 19 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The saturday I just did a the way back to my home (130 miles) without any major problem, just like a "hole" in the speeding up but this happen only once. I booked a full service plus Cambelt change and a MOT on the car and at my home on tuesday and I didn't drive it more before that. The mechanic did the full service + Cambelt (total : 580£) change but the car failed to pass the MOT because of wear and tear parts such as the front tyres who have 0 mm thread. -

Honda Accord 2006 mk 7 - Shock Absorber with Headlight Level Sensor Bracket 31 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I assume it will fit without the bracket but without the working Headlight levelling I've been told it won't pass the MOT without that working if its got HID Xenons. I have seen a 2nd hand one on Ebay which has the bracket but they want £70 plus postage which is twice the price of a new one ! -
How to determine a trader? 22 Dec 2024 (Forum)
Bought the van and drove it for 6 weeks before putting it in for a service as I was off to Portugal on a road trip only to find the van has £4500.00 of repairs needed plus illegal tyres. My mechanic told me not to drive it as it’s dangerous so now the van is not on the road. Cancelled my trip and contacted the seller, they offered £1000.00 towards repairs but I said no and that I want to return the van, they basically told me to eff off. -

Suzuki Grand Vitara 5dr - xxxx Cars Ltd, Essex 17 Aug 2018 (Forum)
When I began using the Vitara it quickly started making a strange noise when running. Not being a mechanic or knowing what was going on I passed it to my local Suzuki dealership so they could take a look. A day later I was stunned to hear that the car was found to have had next to no engine oil in it, that an exhaust mount was broken, the drivers seat was lose and two out of the three windscreen wipers were worn out. -
Mazda 3 2008 - Service interval reset. DPF lamp flashing. 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
There are a couple of Web pages on the net re: resetting Mazda 6, and Mazda 5 cars, and by amalgamating the info from these, plus some guess work, I eventually managed to reset the service counter. DISCLAIMER :- This is what I did, and it worked for me. You get what you pay for, and this information is free ! I am not responsible for you wrecking you car because your not an authorised Mazda Technician ! -
Volkswagen Polo IV (2005 - 2009) - Car leasing 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The front wheel trims were scuffed, I replaced them, the 2 year service was due, I had it done, I replaced a couple of bulbs and had paint repairs on a couple of small scuffs to the front bumper, minor and very tiny dents on the doors (hardly visible and certainly not photographable). I was confident the car would pass any inspection. At the end of the inspection I was given an estimate for £1700 plus VAT from the Inspector to 'put the car right'. I immediately took it to two garages for an independent inspection - both agreed with me the car was in good condition and had a very small amount of use - which they considered fair wear and tear. -

Speed cameras examined 28 Apr 2015 (Forum)
The system uses multiple installations along a road (a minimum of two) and ANPR (automatic numberplate recognition) technology to record passing cars and calculate their average speed. As a vehicle passes the first camera, an infrared photo is taken and the time recorded. As it passes the second camera, two photos — infrared and colour — are taken. -

Banger(ish) shopping in Ayrshire 9 Aug 2025 (Forum)
It had lived all its life on the coast and was rapidly dissolving. An unwise £4495 buy, it will be lucky to pass another ticket and with the trade away relative firm to the dealer I once worked for. They offer these cars up and do nothing more than give them a valet and a lights and levels check, they don’t prep them at all. -

1.8 versus 1.6 - car buying advice please 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Similarly, no matter how well built the Avensis is I cannot bring myself to buy one as I ain't got a flat cap and a bus pass yet yet. The other car is the Honda CRV but that too is a diesel and about 5K more for a 2007 model than the 10K I wish to spend on a car - plus it has higher insurance and presumably higher servicing/running costs?
