  • Nitrogen in Tyres 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Anyone heard about using nitrogen in tyres instead of air? I have come across it in Europe before, but the idea seems to be rare here. A search on the web brings up http://www.merityre.co.uk/why_nitrogen.htm but does anyone know if any of the national chains offer it yet?

  • Nitrogen Filled Tyres? 12 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi All, Has anyone actual practical experience of nitorgen filled tyres? I know that some tyre retailers claim nitrogen keeps tyres inflated for longer thus enhancing tyre life, reducing fuel consumption and 'helping with vehicle handling' - whatever that last bit means. Seems to me it seems like a good scam on behalf of garages to charge a premium to fill a punters tyres with a low cost gas.

  • Citroen Xantia - '93 Xantia 1.9 TDI bounces bad 11 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The car rises and lowers normally. The spheres are not broken, there's enough LHM in it. Recently I read something about the nitrogen level in the spheres. Could this be the problem for the bouncing - not enough nitrogen? Thanks in advance.
  • Diesels - are they taking the p**s? 27 Sep 2001 (Forum)
A specially converted truck has been fitted with a urea solution injector and is now testing the theory. Dutch scientists hope the urea could reduce diesel emissions by up to 80%. Urea is a nitrogen-rich organic compound found naturally in urine which can now be manufactured. It is injected into a catalytic converter where the heat converts it into ammonia. It then reacts with the harmful nitrogen oxides transforming them into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

  • Nitroinflate anyone ? 24 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have just had a couple of new tyres fitted and noticed I have been charged £2.50 for a "nitroinflate". Presumably they have inflated the tyres with nitrogen rather than air. I am not quibbling, just interest as to why ? I would imagine nitrogen would diffuse through rubber a little quicker than air. If it is to keep oxygen out of the tyre (to reduce oxidation ?)
